The March Meet, More Than A Drag Race




Bakersfield, CA – February 20, 2014. The March Meet is a huge 4 day event filled with nitro burning funny cars, dragsters and hot rods of all types. But there is more to the March Meet than drag racing. From parties to clothing, automotive treasures to manufacturers midway, there is something for everyone at the March Meet. Bakersfield as a community is proud to host the March Meet and the city nightlife really shines during the even.

To get the March Meet party started, every year fans gather in the parking lot in front of The Original Roadhouse Grill on Rosedale Hwy. for the “March Meet Kick Off Party”. Wednesday, March 5 will mark the traditional start to the weekends festivities. Starting at 6pm and going till whenever, fans will be able to mingle with the racers and hot rods all while enjoying food and drinks.

Once at the race track you won’t have to wonder outside the gates to have a euphoric experience. Parties thrown in the Pits and in the campgrounds are of epic proportions. Fire up a fuel car at 2am? Sure, no noise ordinance or curfew here. The rock band Great White performing on a temporary stage complete with giant amps and light show? Been there. Done that. You never know what is going to be happening during the evening. The competitors and fans know how to party and the March Meet gives them a perfect reason. Definitely something you want to put on your itinerary if you’re looking for the whole “March Meet” experience.

At the South end of the facility, beyond the show cars lies the swap meet area. This is the ultimate garage sale for all things automotive. Rare and treasured parts are hidden all over the swap meet area. From complete cars to rare parts that no one thought existed, the Swap Meet is an amazing American tradition.

Vendors from far and wide make the journey to the March Meet to connect with their potential customers, automotive enthusiast and racing fans. Hundreds of vendors will line vendor row offering products ranging from crate motors, t-shirts, rims, tools, chassis as well as a wide range of products geared towards female shoppers. No matter how many times you walk up and down vendor row, you’re sure to discover something new.

If you’re looking for some night time entertainment away from the track, Narducci’s Cafe will be throwing a big Rockabilly party in celebration of the March Meet on Friday Night. And if you find yourself downtown, stop by some of the famous places like Guthrie’s Alley Cat or Jerry’s Pizza Pub where some of Bakersfield’s bands got their start. Downtown Bakersfield is a great place to be if you like live music.

Saturday, March 8th, Bakersfield’s own Merle Haggard will be playing the Fox Theater. The 3 time Grammy winner has over 30 number 1 hits in his arsenal of songs, and the Fox Theater is an amazing and intimate place to see anyone perform. Get your tickets soon for this sure to be sold out show.

Buck Owen’s Crystal Palace always has great food and entertainment on tap. You can catch the Buckaroos with Monty Byrom & Stampede while enjoying tri-tip! Join in for a little dancing too. The World Renown Crystal Palace is a piece of americana. The place is full of country music memorabilia. A Pontiac Grand Ville customized by Nudie Cohn for Elvis Presley hangs behind the Bar. Rumor has it that Buck won the car in a bet with Elvis.

Auto Club Famoso Raceway has again partnered with TheFOAT.com. TheFOAT.com has handled the on-line ticket sales quickly and efficiently. Purchasing tickets online allows fans to bypass the lines at the gate and get right into the event.

Race fans can purchase a “Super 4-Day Event Pass” for $100 online. There are also specially priced passes for three days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday: $75) and two days (Saturday and Sunday: $55).

Walk up tickets for the event will go on sale March 6 at the track. Ticket prices are $25 for Thurs., Mar. 6; $25 for Fri., Mar. 7; $30 for Sat., Mar. 8; and $30 for Sun., Mar. 9. Tickets for children ages 6-12 are $10 each day and kids 5 and under get in free when accompanied by an adult with paid admission.

Other prices announced include, event camping: $125 for all four days; VIP parking: $50 (good for the entire event); and VIP four-day Quarter Mile Courtyard seating: adults $165, children $105 (space is limited).
