THE ORIGINAL BLUE MAXI Z29 HEADS TO YORK

YORK, PA – The original Blue Maxi ’69 Chevrolet Camaro will be appearing at the 13th Annual Musclecar Madness at the York Expo Center, York Fairgrounds, on July 11-12th. The vehicle was the creation of Cars and Driver magazine in conjunction with Chevrolet and the race shop that built the Sunoco sponsored Camaros that Mark Donahue raced and won with in SCCA’s Trans-Am Series.

That Camaro became the Blue Maxi and it has survived to this day, wearing the Roger Penske applied Sunoco blue paint over an original LT1 engine. The only one to be built and still exist. The car is known as the famed Z29 as well. Ironically 45 years after appearing on the July cover of Cars and Driver magazine the car appears on the cover of the July 2014 issue of Super Chevy magazine and will be transported to York for the two day event featuring a Salute to General Motors.

Another rare car of GM heritage to appear with the Penske/Donahue creation will be the 1966 Corvair Yenko Stinger of Joe Darinsig of York. The vehicle is only 1 of 186 Yenko Stingers to be bult. The majority of the Stingers built were used for racing and were built to specs making them legal for SCCS D/Production. The car features th famous blue and white stripes and trim. The car is currently registered in two Yenko Registries.

Joining the GM celebration will be the USA-1 Camaro Funny Car of Bruce Larson, the Flying Farmer of Arnie Beswick and his famous Pontiac race car, and a whole host of Chevrolets and Corvettes that competed in the popular Junior Stock category. The ’59 Corvette of Marv Ripes and John Dianna and the ’56 Chevy Sedan Delivery Yoo Hoo Too of Dan and Wayne Jesel to name two.

The show benefits the York County SPCA and the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing.

Show hours are Friday, July 11th 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, July 12th 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
