Romine returns to DRO AA/FC Challenge in Kentucky; Muldowney to be Grand Marshal

Romine’s ‘Man O’ War’ to run in Kentucky; Shirley Muldowney is Grand Marshal at DRO AA/FC Challenge second event

The second race of the sixth season for the DragRacingOnline.com AA/FC Challenge with new Title Rights sponsor Hedman Husler Hedders will be held June 6-7 at Beacon Dragway in Paducah, Ky.

Beacon Dragway (www.beacondragway.com) is the only eighth-mile track on the DRO Challenge schedule this season. This marks the first appearance at the track for the series and there are a couple of appearances of special note for the “Eighth-Mile Nationals.”

Legendary drag racer Shirley Muldowney will be Grand Marshal for the event. The NHRA has just celebrated the 100th win of a national event by a woman, and Ms. Muldowney was one of the first – and is arguably the best-known — female pioneers in the sport.

Paul Romine, champion of the Hedman Husler Hedders DragRacingOnline.com AA/FC Challenge for the first two seasons (2009 and 2010) will make his return to the series with the “Man O’ War” Mustang at Kentucky, an appropriate “homecoming” for the car named after one of the Bluegrass State’s most famous race horses.

Romine had sold the car last year and retired from racing, but couldn’t stay away. He bought back the car from Bruce Litton and has been getting her back in competition shape at his Indianapolis shop.

Defending DRO Challenge champion, Shawn Bowen from Michigan, won the first event of the 2014 season at Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis. He and his “Violator” Firebird will be looking forward to meeting Romine on the track again.

Two rounds of qualifying will run Friday evening, June 6, with an optional qualifying round on Saturday, followed by eliminations.
