WALSH CLAIMS NO. 1 QUALIFYING POSITION DURING NHRA PRO MOD DRAG RACING SERIES ACTION AT CHEVROLET PERFORMANCE U.S. NATIONALS AT INDIANAPOLIS
BROWNSBURG, Ind. – Don Walsh secured the No. 1 qualifying position during the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series portion of the 60th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. This weekend’s Pro Mod racing is presented by JEGS.
Walsh powered his late model Chevy Camaro to a top performance of 5.863 seconds at 252.61 mph to on Saturday to claim the top qualifying spot. It was his fifth career No. 1 qualifier and first since 2012. His run held up following the final session on Sunday and he will meet Bill Glidden, the son of legendary Pro Stock driver Bob Glidden, in the first round of eliminations on Monday.
Troy Coughlin, the 2012 NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing series world champion, completed a 5.866 at 248.52 in his 2012 Corvette on Saturday to claim the second seed. He will face Houston winner Mike Janis in the first round. Jeff Naiser qualified third in his ‘69 Camaro with a 5.892 at 241.54 and opens against Jim Bell. Steven Whiteley was fourth with a 5.894 at 245.40 in his ’68 Camaro. He will pair up with Pete Farber in round one.
