York 2015: The Final Pass

YORK, PA – The 14th Annual Musclecar Madness at the York Reunion will feature the final pass down the famed quarter mile of York US30 Dragway with a special display at the old dragway that was located at the York Airport in Thomasville. The car that made the final run in competition will be on display, Lou Drayer of Enola, PA will display his Chevette Pro Street along with Bruce Larson’s “Mr. Clean” coupe, the Charlie Garrett B/G Studebaker coupe “The Boss” owned by Yvonne and Randy Davis of Littlestown, and the Motor Menders of York will have their Competition coupe to round out the regulars that ran at this world famous dragway.

The display hours are Friday, July 10th from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturday, July 11th from 12 noon until 4 p.m. All ticket holders from the Musclecar Madness show can present their ticket stubs for FREE admission or the public can purchase a ticket for $10.00. Videos of racing action from the York US30 races will be shown plus memorabilia from back in the day. A special viewing area will be provided of the former raceway facility.

On the final pass for the York Reunion will be a 50th Anniversary celebration of the Super Stock Nationals that originated and ended at the York track. The overall winner of the 1st Super Stock Nationals Bob Harrop will be appearing with a special roundtable discussion of this world-famous event that was held in 1965 and has been known as the “Woodstock of Drag Racing” the largest one-day drag race to ever be presented. The roundtable is 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Legends of Drag Racing abound with the likes of Wally Bell, Al Joniec, “Ohio George” Montgomery, Tom Sneden, Dutch Irrgang, Jim Zakia, Jim Boburka, “Miss Hurst Golden Shifter” Linda Vaughn, Jon Lundberg, Pete Tritak, Jim Wemett, the Golden Commandos group, Sam Auxier, Jr. and the list goes on.

Special tours to the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing will be provided via shuttle from the show along with a special Make and Take model building from the small fry 12 years old and under by the Central Pennsylvania modelers. The kids can build their own model and take it home with them from the show.

Special autograph sessions are provided by Linda Vaughn and many of the Legends in attendance. The show is renowned from having the most legends and legendary race cars assembled at one event at one time for many years.

The outside Cruisin’ Into Summer cruise-in will be presented on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with exclusive awards presentations by “Miss Hurst’ Linda Vaughn at the conclusion.

The great nostalgia weekend concludes with the presentation of the 12th Annual York Nostalgia Nationals at Beaver Springs Dragway on Sunday with activities beginning at 8 a.m.
