WINNERS CROWNED FOR DELAYED ROUTE 66 LUCAS OIL EVENT
HEBRON, Ohio – Final winners were crowned this weekend for the postponed Burn Down at Sundown Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event from Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., with Rick Brown leading the charge. The final rounds of competition were held at National Trail Raceway in conjunction with their Lucas Oil event.
Brown, Lebanon, Ohio, held off Troy Galbraith, Indianapolis, to take the win and the trophy in Comp Eliminator and was joined by Ashley Tidrick and Curt Fredrich in the division’s Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster and the Brodix/Steve Schmidt Top Sportsman respectively.
Tidrick, Logansport, Ind., was out first on Joe Hessling, Toledo, Ohio, which proved to be the difference as Tidrick took the win. Fredrick, Burlington, Wis., took the win light immediately off the start when Mike Coughlin, Delaware, Ohio, went red by just .009 seconds at the start.
Jeff Dona, Gordonville, Mo., was .002 off the line to beat the quicker Brad Zaskowshi, Belding, Mich., in Super Stock while Jim Schaechter, St. Charles, Ill., ousted Ben Wenzel Sr., Freeland, Mich., in Stock
Kara Forbes, Jocob Elrod and Tony McFall rounded out the list of winners. Forbes, Horse Cave, Ky., ran a perfect 8.900 on the 8.90 index to beat Philip Smida II, Canfield, Ohio, in Super Comp; Elrod, Lima, Ohio, and Rock Hass, Commerce Mich., were close at the start but Hass was just a bit too quick at the strip to give Elrod the Super Gas win; and McFall, Tipp City, Ohio, put a hole shot on Jason Satterly, Lawrenceburg, Ky., in Super Street for the win.
