NORWALK, Ohio (August 25, 2015) – The International Hot Rod Association™ (IHRA) announced to the world that the notorious Pro Modified class would be returning to the Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series in 2015. The resurrection has proven to be one of the most competitive classes this season and has the tightest point’s battle with only one event remaining for the Crower Pro Mod class.
The Crower Pro Mod class showcases the best in quarter-mile competition with a unique combination of supercharged, turbocharged and nitrous-driven engines. To-date, nitrous cars have won three events, turbocharged – two and supercharged – one. The class has attracted two dozen different drivers and has produced no repeat winners in 2015. Six different drivers have won a coveted Ironman trophy: Isaias Rojas, Jimmy Keen, Rueben Tetsoshvili, Billy Harper, Bill Lutz and Paolo Giust.
Dina Parise from New Freedom, Pennsylvania has a 31 point lead over Bill Lutz from Canal Winchester, Ohio. Parise has two runner-up finishes (Summer Nationals and President’s Cup Nationals) and Lutz has one win (Northern Nationals) this season. The winner will be determined at the Summit World Finals featuring Nitro Jam at Memphis International Raceway on October 9 – 10.
"The 2015 season has been a showcase season for the return of the Crower Pro Mod class," stated IHRA President Scott Gardner. "We have seen a lot of new faces from across the country and Canada race at our Nitro Jam events. The cars are diverse in what they can run with their engine combinations but it is also one of the most competitive classes this season. We believe we’ll see even more racers in 2016."
The IHRA debuted the Pro Mod class in the early 90s and was born out of IHRA’s revolutionary Top Sportsman class. After a multi-year absence, the IHRA announced its return at the PRI Show in Indianapolis last year. In addition to the Crower Pro Mod category, AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive, Nitro Harley, Pro Stock and Jet Dragster compete on the Nitro Jam tour.
The San Antonio Nationals Fueled by Sunoco is the next event on the Nitro Jam schedule on September 25 – 26. The classes competing for Ironman trophies include: Pro Stock, Outlaw Fuel Altereds, AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive, Jet Dragster, Jet Trucks and sportsman racers.
