14th Annual York Legion of Honor Recipients Announced




YORK SPRINGS, PA – The fourteenth Annual Legion of Honor Awards presentation will be held at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing on Friday, July 7th at 5 p.m. in conjunction with the Second Annual York US30 Heritage Days nostalgia drag racing event and the 16th annual York US30 Dragway Reunion scheduled for July 7-8, 2017.

The annual awards are presented by the National Nostalgia Drag Racing Association to deserving recipients for their many achievements and contributions to the drag racing sport through the years.

An individual award is presented to each recipient and their names are placed upon a perpetual award that is on display in the museum in perpetuity.

The York event has been an annual reunion for the former York US30 Dragway at the York Airport in Thomasville. The track closed in 1979 at the conclusion of the racing season. An annual pilgrimage to the York Reunion has occurred for sixteen consecutive years.

The York Reunion has been known nationally for attracting the largest turnout of Legends of Drag Racing each year to assemble at one event at one time. The 2017 recipients are as follows: Bob. McClurg, Bob Wenzelburger, Harry Huntsberry, Anthony Cieri, Bob Bender, Dennis Ferrara, Bob Kashner, Al Brown, and Gene Altizer. The long distance award will go to McClurg who resides in Hilo, Hawaii.

The annual York US30 Heritage Days and York Reunion is presented for the benefit of the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing (EMMR).

The event is presented at EMMR and the adjoining Latimore Valley Fairgrounds on Friday, July 7th from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 8th from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

A Glory Days cruise-in is featured on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with awards. All years are welcome.

Cackling thunder start-ups of the race cars are held at specific times during both days.
