Dragster restoration update 4/2017 – Remembering Leo Dunn:
I attached two more of my favorite photos. I have a lot of them. Every photo is a treasure.
On Saturday, April 29th which ironically would also have been my dad’s 82nd birthday, we are going over to my mom’s to pick up the dragster to take it to my cousin’s friend’s shop in Napa where it will live, and be put together the rest of the way. It’s not going to be easy; the dragster has not been out of the trailer for more than 20 years.
The engine build is well on the way at Joe’s engine shop now owned by Clay Twigg. I hope you have been able to see the progress posted on Facebook on the Leo Dunn Memorial page. (Facebook would not let me name it Remembering Leo Dunn.) Thank you again Clay and Joe for all your work on the engines. Can’t wait to see them together.
I have the photos to the t-shirt company for the Remembering Leo Dunn t-shirt. I have more than 37 promised orders so far. I think it’s going to turn out great. They have their work cut out for them. I sent them a ton of photos because I didn’t know which ones would be the best, lol. They have t-shirts, long sleeve, tank tops, onesies, sweatshirts, jackets, and more, in youth, men, and women’s. This is going to be fun too.
I am working with a friend to set up the webpage, rememberingleodunn.com. I wish I could snap my fingers and have that done! I have such a knowledge deficit on how to do it, so frustrating.
If you would like to help in any way with this restoration, I would be more than happy to include you. Please let me know. My husband Chris, my cousin Tommy Adams, his son Brandon Adams, my cousin Mike Summerlot, and our friend Dennis Holtz have their plan in mind for what’s next. I will keep everyone who wants to be included updated.
Please feel free to share this story. I know there are a few large email groups for the racers going around.
Remember our plan is to have this dragster ready to cackle at this year’s CHRR. It’s usually held the 3rd weekend of October, and is located in Bakersfield. I hope we are allowed to bring this dragster to the CHRR. I have heard about the problems with last year, and I’m also hearing that there are not that many rear engine racecars there. I also hope we will be able to cackle it there. I will be following up more on this. There are many other places we can go. Sure hope you can join us.
