IDBL Fall Nationals Poised to be a Record Breaker This Weekend at Maryland International Raceway

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. – All racers and fans of incredibly fast, high-performance motorcycles, don’t miss what is likely to be a record-breaking event, the International Drag Bike League (IDBL) DME Fall Nationals, this weekend, Oct. 6-8 at Maryland International Raceway.

A great weekend forecast with perfect conditions adds to the excitement as racers in several classes see this autumn event as a prime opportunity to smash records at the world’s quickest drag bike track.

Sixteen-time Top Fuel Motorcycle champion Larry "Spiderman" McBride made motorcycle racing history at the last IDBL event at Maryland in July. He posted a jaw-dropping, 5.74-second run on his 1,500-plus horsepower machine known as Star. It was the second quickest drag bike run of all-time and the best in American history. McBride believes MDIR’s outstanding track prep and cool fall air gives him the opportunity to become the first rider ever to break into the 5.60-second zone.

Dave Vantine on the popular, yellow rocket will race McBride to decide the IDBL Pingel / APE Top Fuel Championship. On Saturday night, McBride will take on IDBL Trim-Tex Nitro Harley points leader Peter Geiss in a special, fan favorite Nitro Harley vs. Nitro Suzuki grudge match.
Some of the world’s quickest Nitro Harley will also be at MDIR with the goal of knocking down Geiss at the championship-deciding race. Veteran "Crazy Tak" Takeshi Shigematsu will come all the way from Japan, while track record holder Bob Malloy and other top competitors are expected to attend.

It’s also the biggest race of the year for the Orient Express Pro Street division. Competitors from all over the nation will race for a $10,000 top prize in the fifth annual Battle Royale. Rodney Williford has dominated the IDBL competition this year with a record-setting 6.69-second pass. The points leader will face his toughest challenge of the year from three-time Battle Royale champions DME Racing and other top teams in search of the big prize.

Championship racing will take place all weekend in all the following divisions: DME Real Street, Vance & Hines 4.60, FBR Shop 5.60, World Wide Bearings Crazy 8’s, APE Trac King Top Sportsman, Shinko Pro ET, Lady Law, Street ET and Grudge.

Gates open at 9 a.m. Friday with early-bird testing from 10 am. to 5 p.m. For racers arriving later in the day, a bonus test-and-tune is available from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. for only $25 per entry. Top Fuel, Nitro Harley and Pro Street entries will be given a special bonus qualifier on Friday night at 8 p.m.

On Saturday afternoon, DJ Flexx and WPGC will have the pits rocking with great live music, which will continue throughout the weekend.

Fast Lane Bike will be searching for new motorcycles and models to feature in its magazine. Riders shine up those bikes and ride in for a chance to be selected. Ladies are encouraged to dress to impress. The event will also feature cold beer, great food, a giant street bike corral and a huge vendor midway.
