Drag Racing Picture of the Day!

Injected Chevy Diggers at San Gabe

By Steve Gibbs

These shots are all injected Chevy dragsters at San Gabriel in 1962. Can't ID them. Who can?

Mysteries partially solved! Here's a note from Wayne King:

The top car is Bernie Mather, Jr.'s, Fueler #34 (1/2 Home Built by Bernie Himself). Famous Smokers announcer (The Best Ever!!) Bernie built a number of cars. Bernie was an EXCELLENT welder as well as a cylinder head porter... Rod Dunn of American Band Stand fame helped Bernie on the car. The car was driven by Bob Truby, also a Smoker. Bernie is behind the wheel of the Ford Wagon on the right.

Middle car ???

Bottom car is Bob Johnson from San Diego. Car was co-owned by Leonard Abbott. This car had a REALLY BAD FIRE at Famoso. Bob was burned really bad. The car later had a Blown Fuel Chrysler driven by Leonard himself. Just saw a photo of the car with Abbott in the seat on the return road at Lions.
