This begins a series of my Super Stock Nationals photos that draglist.com will run from time to time. First up is not an S/S car, but the Larry Reyes-Larry Coleman Kingfish blown fuel funny from the 1967 event. This meet and the first S/S Nationals in '65 are without a doubt the best two drag race events I ever saw. The amount and variety of cars, all stock-type stuff ... at least in heredity ... the dramatic action and the total amount of it all were just fantastic. I recall very little breakage on-track and I don't believe there was a single wreck at both meets. It was just run after run of everything Stock-S/S-F/X-F/C for three days at Cecil in '67.

There was a gang of ex-star cars there too, AWB Mopars, Ford stuff, a good amount of GM independents and of course big name funnies like Dyno, Grove, Schartman, Chrisman, Rupp, Don Gay, Jungle Jim, the Secret Weapon (misfired) ... nearly all the NASCAR circuit cars ... tons of S/S cars, Sox, Landy, Stahl, Jenkins, Platt, Dutton, Werst ... Jr. Stocks like the Tokyo Rose, Brainbeau Olds 442, Yoo Hoo Too, etc.

Two SOHC FoMoCo cars ended up in the final, one the ten second, 4-speed NASCAR Comet of Kenny Vogt and the other Tom Grove's eight second, injected, fuel, stretch Mustang. Grove won over Vogt's red light. One hell of an event.
