The Nelson Carter series of Super Chief funny car was very popular with drag racing fans. Carter's drag racing career came to an unexpected and abrupt end with this crash. Carter had hired tuner Steve Bernd to drive the latest Super Chief at Orange County International Raceway. The crash was caught on film and can be seen in the Jim Dunn movie Funny Car Summer.
