Tim Lynch Shatters "Outlaw Racing Record" at E-Town

By Mark Walker

Outlaw 10.5 racing has grown to almost national event status in the past years, the stock appearing cars with that Old School flavor are hard to get out of your head with low seven second ET's and limited to a 12.2 inch tire width. Tim Lynch and the Lynch Mob Mustang are the ones to beat as they had proved themselves in Orlando at the World Street finals winning the Outlaw Street class. NY Motorsports hosted the 2nd annual Shake Down at E-Town and Tim Lynch was again the main attraction. Forty nine cars attempted to qualify but only sixteen would make the field on this wet and foggy Sunday at Englishtown Raceway Park. All eyes would be on the first person to break the six second barrier at the restricted tire limits. Tim Lynch would be the favorite of the day for this accomplishment, with its 449ci twin turbo under the hood.

The motor in this machine: 449ci twin turbos

The Lynch Mob Mustang left hard on the fresh surface and headed upwards towards the middle of the track, as he tried to pedal the car straight it took a violent turn on its two drivers side tires and headed for the wall. Tim’s quick reactions saved the ride but aborted the pass.

On its side

It was now evident that he needed to get in the race with his second and last shot at qualifying. Back in the pits adjustments were made to make sure he could get in the field and go some rounds. The team of the Lynch Mob Mustang made the absolute proper corrections. The second qualifier netted Tim Lynch the number one spot with a never before seen 7.007 @ 207, this in itself was a record. The team knew that the poor sixty foot time would have to be corrected and many already knew that a record was at hand soon if the car got down the track again. Delays in the day had cut the rounds short and on the final open day of Englishtown’s Raceway Park the stands filled with anticipation of Tim Lynch coming to the line.

Off to the record-setting pass

With the new adjustments made again, the Mustang broke the beams and reared out of the hole like a thoroughbred, crushing the tires and moving strong, the pass was going straight and fast as the tail lights disappeared into the night mist and the heat trail left behind by the screaming twin turbos. An enormous cheer arose from the crowd and the starting line when the scoreboard finally came into focus.

The board tells it all

Track announcer Walter Frey made it clear to everyone that Tim Lynch had officially become the first man to break the six second barrier with a jaw dropping 6.966 @ 207.43. This is a record that has been sought after for years now in the Outlaw racing circles.

Congratulations in the pits: Team Lynch mob and Dave Hance

Back in the pits the rewards were being given out by race promoter and driver himself Dave Hance. The soft spoken Georgia boy Tim Lynch had nothing but thanks to give out to his team, fellow racers, fans, and Englishtown Raceway to get the Cajun Race Cars, Steve Petty Race Engines Mustang a place to be the first to reach this feat. The Shake Down at E-Town will forever be on the list of when and where this stunning pass was accomplished.
