Notes: Ran NHRA Ontario (where it went to the semis with solid 9.30s at 145) and then ran the '73 Winternationals. Then Barry Poole sold it to Jack Roush and quit racing. - Ariel Cordero | Had Doug Nash Trans. 9.58 Phoenix | Barrie had been a very successful Canadian Super Stock racer. He entered Pro Stock first with a 429 wedge-powered Comet and then switched to the popular 351 Pinto combination. He ran well, but '73 was to be his last season. He ran at the AHRA Winternationals, where he qualified #12 in the sixteen-car field with a 9.58/142.18. An opening round 9.73/139.72 lost to Melvin Yow's 9.38/145. At the NHRA Winternationals, he qualified #13 with a 9.58/143.08 (one spot ahead of Bob Glidden). He slowed to a 9.96 in the first round, that lost to Don Carlton's 9.70. While back in Canada, he was severely hurt in a snowmobiling accident. Shortly after that, he decided to call it quits. |

Notes: Frank Aldridge Automotive owner? DNQ at NHRA World Finals at 9.415/144.20. The 153 probably indicates the 9.27/153 were match race times. |

Notes: John was a DNQ at NHRA Gainesville (times not reported). He was at Englishtown for an eight-car NHRA Pro Stock Circuit race. He ran 9.39/147.05 to beat Rich LaMont's Gremlin in the first round, but he missed a shift in the semifinals and lost to Scott Shafiroff. In August, he competed at an eight-car show at Maple Grove. In the opening round, his 9.61/143.54 beat Carlton Phillips' 9.60/140. In the semifinal, his 9.50/142.63 was defeated by eventual winner Dave Strickler who ran 9.29/144. The best NHRA national event time was the 9.386/146.19 at the US Nationals that was DNQ. Photo from the 1973 US Nationals. Also ran 9.32 at Atco. He raced at the last Pro Stock event of the Connecticut season but had rear-end problems and fell in the first round, to Bob Ingles. In November, he competed at the Suffolk National Open. In the opening round, his late leaving 9.18/147.49 lost to Bruce Larson's 9.21/144. Shortly after that, the car was at Atco, where it would make its final pass. Healey was there for an eight-car show. The little Pinto had been running really well by this time, dipping into the 9.1's more and more. On this day, he once again ran 9.19/148.78 in the first round. While this was good, he lost the race to Herb McCandless, driving the "Brooklyn Heavy" Dodge, who won with an 8.57/158. Herb was running the car about 300lbs light. So although John was out of the eliminations, he went up against Paul Blevins in a consolation race. This was the car's final pass as John got out of shape and crossed into Blevins' lane, almost hitting the Vega in the rear. He tried to drive out of it, but the Pinto ended up flipping six times before coming to a stop. The car was totaled. Who said that Pinto's were dangerous? John walked away without even a scratch. |

Notes: Harvey didn't drive on the NHRA national event trail this year. John Healy did drive the car to a 9.331/149.00 #27 qualifier at Indy. He lost to Joe Satmary in round one, 9.13/147 to 11.121/86.37. That was the team's only NHRA national event appearance. Bob Glidden was going to buy this car. The deal was done; he sent his boys down to pick it up, and Harvey changed his mind and decided to keep it. |

Notes: Lee Hunter started his season at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals. He ran well but failed to reach the finals. The following week, he went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals and failed to qualify. In March, Lee was at OCIR for the AHRA Grand American West. Only thirteen cars showed for the sixteen-car field, so qualifying wasn't much of an issue. Hunter’s 9.42 got him the #9 spot in the show. He knocked off the #3 qualifier, Sonny Bryant, in the opening round with a 9.15, but in round two, eventual winner Ken Dondero drove Bill Jenkins' Vega to an 8.79/155 to beat his 9.03/150.00. He qualified #1 for the eight-car field at OCIR's Drag Race 500 event in May. But his late 9.21/151.77 lost to Randy Humphrey's 9.23/149 in the first round. In June, he was at Sacramento for the NHRA Division 7 race. Bryant fouled away a 9.11/147 against him in round one, and Lee advanced with a 9.12/148.77, but he lost in the semifinals. Hunter was really late in the first round, at the second NHRA Division 7 race held at Irwindale early in July. His 8.96/151.26 lost to Kevin Rotty's 9.29/148. The next Division 7 race was held at Fremont. Humphrey fouled against Hunter in round one, and in the semifinals, Lee’s 9.06 beat Gary Hansen's 9.14. This set up a final-round showing with Bryant. Lee was quicker, but later in their race and his 9.24/144 finished runner-up to Sonny's 9.29/140. The following week (July 26), he was at OCIR for the PDA Championships. It was a sixteen-car field, and Hunter ran 9.02/149 to beat Hansen's 9.49/141 in the opening round. He had a close second-round race against Rotty that saw both drivers run 9.08 (Hunter at 150.75), but Lee got the win light. But he slowed to a 9.11/149.50 in the semifinals, which lost to eventual winner Bryant’s 9.00/150. | Won Bonneville WCS meet over Sonny Bryant in August 1975 with a 9.30/144.88 (Top Speed of the Meet). On October 5, Lee was at Irwindale for a twelve-car show. He set a new track record 8.70 (career-best to this point). All cars were to make three passes, with the two Low ET cars meeting in the final. There was no stopping Hunter this day. In his first race, Jim Baker broke against him. In his second race, an easy 9.05/149.50 beat Randy Humphrey's extremely late 8.85. In the third race, Hunter's 9.09/141.06 beat Walt Marshall. He faced Dick Landy in the final, and the two had a good race that saw Hunter run 8.81/146.34 to win over Landy's 8.84/153. (The 8.70 is listed under Match Race Pro Stock as it would have equaled Bob Glidden's all-time best for the year. NHRA bests of 8.887/153.84 gave Bob Glidden a good race in round one, at NHRA Ontario 1975. |

Notes: This was my dad's car and Jerry drove for us. We did a lot of match races aginst Gapp and Roush, Bob Glidden, Jon Kaase, Don Nicholson, etc. A lot of good memories. Dad will be glad to see this. - Lynch | Jerry qualified #18 at NHRA Indy at 9.128/150.00. He improved to 9.035/148.76 in round one, but lost to Don Nicholson's 8.94/150. That was the team's only NHRA national event. Also ran 147.06 at Riverside MS 8/17/75. Michael Beach photo from Martin, MI, 1975. |

Notes: Memory tells me this was a Don Hardy car. We need to confirm. | Mills failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. In April, he was at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Division 4 race. He reached the finals, but his 9.23/145.63 finished runner-up to Larry Huff's 9.00/150. |
