Notes: Armstrong's new Satellite appeared without paint at the IHRA World Nationals in the first week of May. It was an eight-car show, and in the opening round, his 6.92/205.82 beat Ed Renck's 7.30/157. Another 6.92/205.82 in the semifinal advanced when Wilfred Boutilier broke. He faced Dave Settles in the final, and Dale ran his third 6.92 (at 202.19) to win over Settles' 7.01. The following week, he took it to Sacramento, where he beat Lou Gasparelli in the final and set Low ET and Top Speed at 6.57/213. Dale qualified #1 at Beech Bend for the NHRA Sportsnationals with a 6.77 (Low ET). He then ran 6.83/204.54 to beat Jeg Coughlin's 7.03/196 in the first round, followed by a 6.81 over Settles, who lost an engine in round two. A strong 6.79/205.47 beat Ken Veney's 6.99/203 in the semifinals. This moved him into the final against Boutilier. The two had a close race, but Armstrong's 6.83/204.08 got the victory over Boutilier's 6.86/203. Dale also ran 6.57 at 213 and a confirmed 212 in November 1976, along with the 6.47. | A '76 PHR Yearbook showed Armstrong at Beech Bend experimenting with a polished, box-type Crower. - Joe Moore |

Notes: Possibly the baddest BB/FC in history. Armstrong became the first to break the 6.7, 6.6, and 6.5-second barriers in 1975. Set Low ET of 6.56 at OCIR Manufacturers' Funny Car Championship in November 1975. Photo from the 1975 NHRA Springnationals, National Trail Raceway, Columbus, Ohio. After this run, the BB/FC records were retired in March 1976. The 6.50s were not seen again until 1979. - TN | Set National Record 6.72 in Sacramento. Won the NHRA World Finals over Ken Veney, who redlighted in the final. |

Notes: Bob qualified #1 at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals with a 6.02. He lasted until the semifinals before his late 6.12 lost to eventual winner Pat Austin's 6.14. He then went to Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, where he won. A final round 6.07/228.48 stopped Brad Anderson's 6.13/224. Bob was the first alcohol funny car in the five-second zone with a 5.952 at Englishtown, NJ, on May 7, 1989. His 231.95 mph run would have been a record if he could have backed it up, but a strong headwind prevented that. He ran several 6.0s elsewhere before getting the record at Englishtown. Did Bob run quicker (5.90) later this year? | At the IHRA Loctite/Nationwise World Nationals, Newberry qualified #1 with a 6.098/229.01. Newberry Defeated Tony Bogolo (the Alternate for #16 Qualifier Steve Litton), in Round 1 6.181/226.13 to 6.522/205.01, 6.565/221.13 over a Red lighting #9 Qualifier Phil Sebring in round 2, & a 6.249/226.13 over a red lighting #5 Qualifier Ronnie Midyette's 6.430/227.27 & Defeated #2 Qualifier Greg Moss in the Final 6.252/225 to 6.395/217.92. | He ran 6.067/229.18 at NHRA Indianapolis. Notes: Rick Howard photo (first-round. elims) from 1996 US Nats, Indy. The Alcohol Funny Car program at Indy that year was the best all year and first in history with a 5-sec. bump (Gary Rettell's 5.99). Anderson, fresh off Seattle win, qualified second at 5.76/248 and defeated Bob Weickegenannt (photo) before setting Top Speed of Meet at 250.13 with a round two win over red-lighting Sam Blue. Got beat in semis when Todd Paton holeshotted him. |

Notes: Brad and Terry built it in the M&S Welding shop. | This was the last year for this car, which a new Dart replaced in 1976. He sold to Harry Hall, who ran it on the East Coast until 1983 as the Shenandoah. Brad won BB/FC class at the 1975 OCIR Manufacturers Meet, Orange County CA 11/01/75 Manufacturers' Funny Car Championship. - RT | Set 205.94 National Record at Fremont 7/75. | In '75, the top two alcohol Funny Cars were Dale Armstrong's Satellite and Ken Veney's Vega. But Brad Anderson was pushing up right behind. He was getting stronger and stronger as the year progressed. Early in July, Brad was at Irwindale for the second NHRA Division 7 race. It was a twelve-car field, and his 7.07/198.67 beat Rich Galli in the opening round. A 7.05/199.11 beat Howard Cross in round two. But he was late in the semifinal, and his 7.05/199.11 lost to Wayne Stoeckel's 7.11/193. He really showed 'em at OCIR for the PDA Championships later in the month. He ran Low ET in qualifying at 6.79. Brad also had Top Speed at 204.80, and he was the only car to run in the sixes during eliminations. It was a 32 car field. Anderson started his run to victory by beating Larry Van Unen with a 6.86/204.80. A second-round 6.91/200.44 took out Derry O'Donovan, and in round three, his 6.94/200.44 beat Greg Bellemeur. In the semifinals, Gary Southern fouled, and Brad advanced with a 6.85/204.08. He ran 6.97/202.70 to win over Billy Bond's 7.26/185 easily in the final. It was a big win, but it would have been better if Veney or Armstrong had been in the field. In August, he won the OCIR Anniversary race by stopping Frank Harris in the "Hawkeye" Vega in the final. Up until Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, Brad had not raced at any of NHRA's major races for '75. But at Indy, he was strong. His 6.77/204.54 qualified #3 behind Armstrong and Veney. He ran 6.83/204.08 to beat John Speelman's 7.03/197 in the first round, and another 6.83 at 205.47 beat Mike Kosky in round two. The turbocharged car of Chase Knight lost to Brad's 6.84/204.08 in round three (32 car field). But in the semifinals, he slowed to a 7.10/201.34 that lost to eventual winner Armstrong's 6.77/204. Ran as quick as 6.67/210 at the Ontario World Finals (eliminations). |
