Notes: Did I see this machine run at MIR in 2000 or 2001? If we find that it was 2001, change times from 2000 to 2001. |

Notes: World's only. Need to verify ET, mph numbers after 1994. Saw it run many times, but what were the actual subsequent numbers? |

Notes: E.J. Potter (aka The Michigan Madman) was best known for his smallblock Chevy-powered motorcycles, many iterations of which he rode throughout the Sixties. Pausing for brief flirtations with a pair of Allison aircraft-engined sedans, he built and rode a jet-powered trike too. In 1971 Potter was seriously injured for only the second time in his career when he was forced to jump from the trike at 120 mph after a parachute failed to open. Asked once in an interview what the difference was between himself and the better-known motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel, Potter said: The difference between me and him was that he got paid to say he was going to do stuff, whether he did it or not. I got paid to actually do stuff. He retired from Exhibition runs in 1973 and switched to competitive tractor pulling. Defying the odds and Expectations of anyone who ever saw him run, the late E.J. Potter passed away of natural causes in 2012. He was 71. -- RT |
