Notes: The J-46 Westinghouse jet, formerly powering the Vought F7U Cutlass was the weedburner of choice for most of the Arfons family's drag ventures. During 1967 Walt Arfons' stable alone included three jet funny cars and a pair of jet dragsters, all touring simultaneously. -- RT |

Notes: Frederick Garth Hardacre was a longtime crewman of the Arfons brothers who also drove their jet cars. He was killed on May 10, 1970 at Pittsburgh International Dragway while driving Art Arfons' Jetvette in a race against Walt Arfons' jet Mustang. He lost control at the top end and hit a steel guardrail. Newspaper accounts say he was turning "about" 250 mph at the time of the accident, so posted time is approximate. -- RT |
