Notes: Killed on March 30, 1974 while making an Exhibition run on the eighth mile pit road at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Lost control at end of run due to presumed mechanical failure and crashed into support vehicles before hitting concrete wall. Two support crewmen also died as a result of the crash. A veteran shoe with 20 years of drag racing behind him, in 1973 he was the first to break the five second mark on a quarter-mile track, at 4.99 seconds. |
