Notes: Rick Howard photo (first-round. elims) from 1996 US Nats, Indy. The Alcohol Funny Car program at Indy that year was the best all year and first in history with a 5-sec. bump (Gary Rettell's 5.99). Anderson, fresh off Seattle win, qualified second at 5.76/248 and defeated Bob Weickegenannt (photo) before setting Top Speed of Meet at 250.13 with a round two win over red-lighting Sam Blue. Got beat in semis when Todd Paton holeshotted him. |

Notes: Brad and Terry built it in the M&S Welding shop. | This was the last year for this car, which a new Dart replaced in 1976. He sold to Harry Hall, who ran it on the East Coast until 1983 as the Shenandoah. Brad won BB/FC class at the 1975 OCIR Manufacturers Meet, Orange County CA 11/01/75 Manufacturers' Funny Car Championship. - RT | Set 205.94 National Record at Fremont 7/75. | In '75, the top two alcohol Funny Cars were Dale Armstrong's Satellite and Ken Veney's Vega. But Brad Anderson was pushing up right behind. He was getting stronger and stronger as the year progressed. Early in July, Brad was at Irwindale for the second NHRA Division 7 race. It was a twelve-car field, and his 7.07/198.67 beat Rich Galli in the opening round. A 7.05/199.11 beat Howard Cross in round two. But he was late in the semifinal, and his 7.05/199.11 lost to Wayne Stoeckel's 7.11/193. He really showed 'em at OCIR for the PDA Championships later in the month. He ran Low ET in qualifying at 6.79. Brad also had Top Speed at 204.80, and he was the only car to run in the sixes during eliminations. It was a 32 car field. Anderson started his run to victory by beating Larry Van Unen with a 6.86/204.80. A second-round 6.91/200.44 took out Derry O'Donovan, and in round three, his 6.94/200.44 beat Greg Bellemeur. In the semifinals, Gary Southern fouled, and Brad advanced with a 6.85/204.08. He ran 6.97/202.70 to win over Billy Bond's 7.26/185 easily in the final. It was a big win, but it would have been better if Veney or Armstrong had been in the field. In August, he won the OCIR Anniversary race by stopping Frank Harris in the "Hawkeye" Vega in the final. Up until Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, Brad had not raced at any of NHRA's major races for '75. But at Indy, he was strong. His 6.77/204.54 qualified #3 behind Armstrong and Veney. He ran 6.83/204.08 to beat John Speelman's 7.03/197 in the first round, and another 6.83 at 205.47 beat Mike Kosky in round two. The turbocharged car of Chase Knight lost to Brad's 6.84/204.08 in round three (32 car field). But in the semifinals, he slowed to a 7.10/201.34 that lost to eventual winner Armstrong's 6.77/204. Ran as quick as 6.67/210 at the Ontario World Finals (eliminations). |

Notes: Stan didn't race at the first two NHRA nationals events of the year, but he was at Houston in the first week of March for the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals. It turned out to be a bad weekend for him. He ran 5.96/233.94 to qualify second behind Randy Anderson's 5.96/235. In the first round, he raced against Al DaPozzo.Sipos got out of shape and crashed the car hard into the guardrail. The car was reported to be a total loss. |

Notes: Ken started his season at the OCIR season opener on January 17. It was an eight-car show with all cars running two rounds and the two lowest ETs advancing to the final. Veney ran 6.76/204.08 to beat Ken Randolph in the first round, but the Vega broke in his second race, and he could not race Sherm Gunn. The following week, he was at Beeline for the Phoenix Winter Classic. His 6.91/203.16 qualified #2 behind Dale Armstrong's 6.79/206. Ken improved to 6.86/205.47 in round one to stop Jimmy Scott's 7.21/196. A second-round 6.91/206.89 advanced over Mark Niver's broken dragster. A semifinal 6.86/207.85 over Gunn set up a final-round meeting with Armstrong. Dale had the advantage as he had been running 6.7s throughout eliminations. But in the final, he lost a clutch and slowed to 11.57/55.28, while Veney picked up the victory with a 7.43/203.61. Ken kept up the pressure at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified #1 with a 6.73 (Low ET) at 209.30. An opening round 6.78/209.79 beat Rick Williamson. He stayed consistent with his 6.81/209.30, beating a tire-shaking Brad Anderson in round two. He got Top Speed of the Meet with his semifinal 6.78/210.28 to take out Jeg Coughlin's 6.95/197. He went up against Jerry Darien in the final, and Veney knocked off another 6.78/203.61 to get the victory over Darien's 7.38/191. He passed up racing at the Bakersfield March Meet but was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. Armstrong, his toughest competitor, outqualified him there, but his 6.85/210.28 wasn't too far behind Dale's 6.78/204. Ken was out for another victory, and it showed. He dumped Vern Moat's 7.13/200 in the first round with a 6.98/208.81. A second-round 6.97/209.81 beat a tire-smoking Joe Amato, and in the semifinals, his tire-shaking 7.27/208.33 luckily advanced over Coughlin's troubled 9.36/83. He faced Bill Wallace in the final, and Bill's off-pace 7.69/148 lost to Veney's 7.15/211.26. His next stop was at Miami-Hollywood for the IHRA Winternationals. There, he actually got beat! His 7.26 in the semifinals lost to Wilfred Boutilier's 7.05. Ken also won the Cajun Nationals and the Springnationals, running 209.30 and defeating Kevin Siebert in the final with a 6.94/206. He qualified #4 at Indy (need times). In round one, he beat Jeff Rapp, 6.79/206.42 to 6.92/197. Ken ran 6.83/206.89 in round two as Wilfred Boutilier got crossed up and shut off. Round three saw Ken run 6.85/205.94 to defeat Chase Knight, who fouled. However, Ken fell off to a 6.92/202.70 in the semis, and that was enough to allow eventual winner Dave Settles to sneak by at 6.76/200. Beautiful race car. |

Notes: Arnie was at York US 30 for its Sportsman Invitational. It was an eight-car show, and Karp's 6.85/212.25 in the opening round defeated Bob Dalton's 7.09/194. He had a close race with Phil Sebring in the semifinal that saw his 6.89/203.62 beat Phil's 6.92/204. He was to face Tom Musselman in the final, but the "Boston Strangler" broke, and Tom made a solo for the victory. |

Notes: Listed times of 6.10/237.85 were recorded in The Drag Racing List, Fall 1990, Volume 5, Number 4. We also have info that she ran the 237.85 at IHRA Atco in 1993. We were good, but we didn't have ESP back in 1990. So, we need to untangle that. I am assuming she ran that time at IHRA Atco 1990? Who can help with this? |

Notes: Brad started the season with a win at the NHRA Division 6 Opener at Firebird Raceway on January 27. He qualified #1 with a 6.60/214.79, well ahead of Chris Christensen, who was second at 6.99. In the first round, Anderson improved to 6.58/218.97 over Mike Grieco, who also improved from his qualifying 7.84 to a 6.73/213. He soloed with a 6.67/217.39 in the semifinals when Mike Haddox failed to show. This set up a final-round match with Christensen. Brad set Low ET and Top Speed while grabbing the victory with a 6.41/223.88 over Chris' 7.35/199. A week later (February 3), he held the trophy at Pomona, winning the NHRA Winternationals. He set Low ET and Top Speed in qualifying #1 with a 6.32/225.11. Christensen fouled against him in the first round, and Brad advanced with a 6.36/219.40. He had a close race with Mike Andreotti in round two, but his 6.48/219.51 prevailed over Mike's 6.51/212. A 6.34/221.56 beat Grieco in the semifinals and put Brad into the final against Steve McGee. Steve had problems in the final and shut off while Brad ran 6.55/219.19 for the win. At the NHRA Gatornationals, Brad set Low ET and Top Speed in qualifying #1 with a 6.25/222.88. Unfortunately, he had trouble in the first round, and his tire shaking 6.88/215.62 lost to Bogie Kell's 6.74/206. His next stop was at Firebird Raceway for the Coors Funny Car Championships. Anderson's 6.51 got the pole in qualifying, and another 6.51 at 214.79 beat Grieco's 6.67/219 in the first round. In the semifinals, he set a new track record 6.36 at 220.04 (Top Speed) over John Weaver's 6.67/209. A final round 6.66/215.31 gave him another victory over Christensen's 6.81/206 runner-up effort. He did not race at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. Anderson won the Cajun Nationals with a 6.38/222.44 best. |
