Notes: Gary failed to qualify at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals eight-car field. On June 23, Cellone was at Maple Grove for the fourth NHRA Division 1 race. He qualified #2 with a 6.44/216.87 behind Bob Newberry's 6.35/218. These two would meet in the final. Gary started his run with a 6.40/216.86 over Larry Dobbs' 6.75/204, while a semifinal 6.43/214.28 beat Dennis Bedrosian's 6.50/215. Newberry held the edge throughout eliminations running a best of 6.36, and he held it in the final by running another 6.36/218 to get the victory over Cellone's 6.42/216.86. | At the Buckeye Nationals at Kil-Kare Dragway on 7/20/85, Cellone would win the event by defeating Joe Comella in the final. | At the NHRA Division 1 final in New England, Gary qualified #5 in the eight-car field with a 6.51/213.01. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Newberry. Cellone picked up to a 6.44/207.13 to beat Bob's 6.52/213. Unfortunately, another 6.44 at 215.56 in the semifinals lost to a quick-leaving Dick Bell, who beat him with a 6.50/215. Gary qualified #2 at the NHRA Keystone Nationals at Maple Grove with a 6.318/222.22. He beat Dick Bell's 6.44 in the first round, with a 6.34/218.55. A semifinal 6.41/216.65 lost to Frank Manzo's 6.34/221. |

Notes: Fred was at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals in May. It was an eight-car field and his best of 6.62/206.51 failed (third alternate) to make the show. At the NHRA Sportsnationals, he qualified #5 in the sixteen-car show with a 6.51/218.12. A first-round 6.53/215.20 beat Carol Henson's 6.67/210, but his second round 6.61/217.39 lost to eventual winner Vern Moats at 6.45/217. The following week (June 9), he was at Quaker City Dragway for the second NHRA Division 3 race. His 6.51/212.26 qualified #1, and he went on to win over the eight-car field by beating Mark Thomas in the first round, with a 6.48/213.77 and a semifinal 6.55/214.79 beat Pat Austin. He faced Steve Group in the final and Fred set Low ET of the meet with a 6.42 at 214.28 to get the victory over Group's 6.50/213. He was running really well at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. His two passes in qualifying were 6.33 and 6.322. The 6.322/218.97 qualified #2 behind Moats' 6.28. There were the only two cars that qualified under 6.40. Unfortunately, Mandoline broke in the first round, against Terry Mullins. Fred followed the NHRA tour to Canada for the Grandnationals where he again qualified #2 with a 6.33/222.88. He defeated Ken Veney in round one, with a 6.36/221.78, but lost to Dennis Bedrosian's 6.43/219 in the semifinals when he fell off to a 6.57/219.94. | At the NHRA WWCW at US 131 8/85 Mandoline qualified #1 with a 6.49/215.82 & would use a 6.44/215.82 to defeat #5 Qualifier Don Gerardot in round 1, a 6.60/217.91 on a semi-finals solo when #3 Qualifier Dan Nimmo was a no show & defeated #6 qualifier Terry Mullins in the final 6.54/210.77 to 6.79/205.01. Fred would Run at Bowling Green a couple weeks later where he set Low ET with 6.42, but finished runner up to Bob Newberry 6.44/221.67 to Mandoline's quicker but losing 6.43/218.92. Mandoline would qualify #11 at the US Nationals with a 6.429/219.61. He would defeat #3 qualifier Charlie Byers on a holeshot in Round 1 6.436/218.97 to Byers's 6.432/220.15. Unfortunately Mandoline red lighted away a 6.456 against #15 qualifier Fred Hagen. At The NHRA Winston Finals in Pomona, Mandoline qualified #3 with a 6.334/223.32. He defeated #11 qualifier Chuck Phelps in round 1 6.591/218.97 to 6.745/215.52. But would lose in Round 2 to #7 qualifier Bucky Austin with a 6.411/222 losing effort to Bucky's 6.366/218.65. |

Notes: Manzo debuted his new Bob Jinkens-built Firebird Trans Am at Englishtown on April 14 for the Spring Funny Car Bonanza race. It was an eight-car show, and the new car performed well, setting Low ET at 6.65 before breaking while winning his semifinal race over Dennis Bedrosian. The following week (April 21), he was in Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. It was another eight-car field, and his 6.54/214.59 qualified #4. Unfortunately, he had problems in the first round and shut off to a 7.57 loss to Terry Mullins, who advanced with a 6.75. He almost won the NHRA Division 1 Opener at Englishtown on May 5. There Manzo had set Low ET and Top Speed in qualifying #1 with a 6.43/220.31. He made his way to the final by running 6.62/218.18 over Dick Bell in round one, while a 6.55/218.97 beat a fouling Carol Burkett in the semifinals. His final-round opponent was Bob Newberry. The two put on a great race, but Bob's 6.49/216 got the victory over Frank's 6.53/217.64 runner-up effort. He then went to Maple Grove for the Spring Funny Car Nationals. The race was run with all eight cars making a run against each other, with the four lowest ETs advancing to the semifinals. Manzo's 6.41 at a track record 218.97 was the quickest of the eight. He ran the identical numbers in his semifinal race over Pat Walsh and then went on to win by running 6.37 (Low ET) at another new track speed record of 219.51. He then went to Atco for a best of three match race against Newberry. It wasn't his day as in the first race, his 6.68/215.82 lost to Bob's 6.60/214, and in the second race, he smoked the tires to a 6.94/187.11 that lost the race and the match to Newberry's 6.73. On June 2, Manzo went to Beech Bend Raceway for the NHRA Sportsnationals. A 6.47/217.70 qualified #4 in the sixteen-car field. But Frank was unable to run in eliminations and was replaced in the field by first alternate Pat Austin. | At the NHRA Molson Grandnational in Sanair Frank qualified #3 for the 8 car field with a 6.343/226.70. In round 1 he faced #7 qualifier Arnie Karp & Manzo ran 6.444/221.02 to Karp's losing 6.587/211.96. In the Semis, "Ace" ran #1 Qualifier Bob Newberry, Manzo ran 6.426/222 in his losing effort to the eventual winner Newberry's 6.338/221.45. At the next NHRA National Event, the Budweiser Summernationals at Englishtown, Manzo qualified #2 for the 16 car field with a 6.328/221.89. He would defeat #10 qualfier Carl Ruth in round 1 6.365/221.13 to Ruth's losing 6.63/212.76. #6 qualifier John Samolyk in Round 2 with a 6.504/216.45 & #4 Qualifier Carol Henson in the Semis with a 6.518/216.03 to Henson's losing 6.685/215.31. In the final, Once again he would Face Bob Newberry the #3 qualifier. Manzo would win the event with a 6.417/217.91 to Newberry's 6.478/216.03 but was overshadowed by Newberry's car becoming a blazing inferno in the shutdown. | He was the second alternate at Indy for the NHRA U.S.Nationals with a 6.50/215.82 best. Frank won the NHRA Keystone Nationals at Maple Grove. It wasn't apparent that he would win when he qualified last in the eight-car field with a 6.39/220. He advanced past the first round with a 6.75 when Arnie Karp crossed the centerline. In the semifinals, he stepped up to a 6.34/221.56 over Gary Cellone's 6.41/216. In the final, he won easily with a 6.39/221.13 when final round opponent Vern Moats broke. |

He ripped off a 6.36/217.39 in the first round to beat low qualifier Gary Retell's 6.30/218. Moss then faced Terry Mullins in the final, and his 6.32/221.67 got the victory over Mullins' 6.35/225. He was at Memphis Motorsports Park for the next NHRA Division Two race in July. His 6.15/226.98 qualified second to Rettell's 6.14/227. These two would work their way into the final. Greg started by running 6.26/226.35 over Bogie Kell's late 6.23/227. Dave Sebring fouled, and Moss coasted down the track at 15.66/36.13 to advance in the semi-final. In the final, Moss' 6.28/225.22 finished runner-up to Rettell's 6.20/225. He qualified #6 at Indy for the NHRA U.S. Nationals with a 6.07/231.66. In round one, he beat Rettell with a 6.16/227.15.
