Notes: Fenwick qualified on the "bump" at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals with a 6.64/207.08. He failed to show for his first-round race against Tommy Johnson Jr. Photo from Columbus 1988. | The 6.28 was a huge run. We qualified 4th at Atlanta. Ken Veney called to congratulate me. I said Bob Ellison had been tuning it right. I finally drove it right! - Rich Fenwick, Racin & Rockin with Draglist.com, 11/28/16 |

Notes: Bill Matheis of Powerhouse Speed Shop was Bunny's partner. Burkett was at Darlington in March for the IHRA Winternationals. She won her first-round race with a 6.35/216, but in round two, Al DaPozzo's 6.38/218 nipped her 6.39/217. The following week (March 22), she was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. Carol qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field with a 6.48/213, but she lost in round one. Maple Grove held its Spring Funny Car Nationals, and Burkett reached the final, running a 6.48/215.31 best. She improved to 6.42/216.86 in the final but lost to Pete Gallen's quick-leaving 6.47/216. On May 17, Burkett was at DeSoto Memorial for the NHRA Division 2 race. She qualified #2 in the eight-car field with a 6.46/220.58. Another 6.46 at 215.31 beat Dal Denton in the first round, but in the semifinals, her 6.43/213.77 lost to a quick-leaving John Powell, who won with a 6.45/206. At the NHRA Springnationals, Burkett qualified #7 with a 6.48/211.86. Unfortunately, a first-round 6.55/212.21 lost to Arnie Karp's 6.54/214. Bunny ran 6.337/225.22 at NHRA Indianapolis IN 9/87 to Qualify #7; she would Defeat #15 Qualifier Terry Mullins in Round 1 6.384/224.38 to Mullins' Losing 6.445/216.19. She would lose to #11 Qualifier Fred Hagen in the Second round (After it was run twice because the Christmas Tree Malfunctioned the first time) when she was late on the tree with .714 Reaction time to Hagen's .490 RT & her 6.405/222.88 would lose to Hagen's 6.425/222.93 Holeshot. The photo from Columbus 1987 shows her #4 1986 NHRA finish, but she was the IHRA World Champion in 1986. |

Notes: Lou qualified #1 at Tucson for the AHRA Winternationals with a 7.57/191. He set Low ET in the first round, with a 7.52, but in the semifinals, he got out of shape against Jack Wyatt and almost hit the guardrail. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals on February first, Lou's 6.86/205.94 qualified #13. He beat Ken Veney's new Corvette in the first round, with a 6.64/205.94, but then lost in round two. The Bakersfield March Meet was held in February and once again Gasparelli qualified well, running 6.96/203.61 for the #2 spot in the eight-car field. He made his way to the finals by beating Richard Day with a 7.24/198.23 and Ray Higley in the semifinals with a 7.01/200.89. He faced Jimmy Scott in the finals and smoked the tires and shut off, giving Scott the victory. At the NHRA Division 6 Opener at Fremont, Lou's best of 6.86 was good for the first alternate in the eight-car show. |

Notes: Hank was in Seattle in August for the NHRA Division Six race. It was an eight-car field, and his 6.71 qualified #7. Unfortunately, the car broke against alternate Roger Bateman in the opening round of competition. He was at Fremont for its independent Golden Gate Nationals, where his 6.40 qualified #4. In the first round, his 6.49/218.44 beat Don Moffitt. Johnson cut a good light in the second round that saw his 6.51/217.91 defeat Mike Grieco's quicker and faster 6.49/218. He suffered from bad tire shake in the semi-final and shut off against Mike Andreotti. | Hank qualified #9 at the NHRA Winston Finals with a 6.446/218.55. He would draw the #1 Qualifier Steve McGee in round 1. Unfortunately, Johnson's 6.656/212.76 was no match for McGee's 6.382/221.23. | Photo from 1984. |

Notes: First in the 5.3 zone in Australia and second in the world! We finally became the first to run in the 5.3s in Australia with a 5.374 at 268.23 MPH. Then came back on the next run and ran 5.360 at 269.83 MPH. This is just so awesome for a new combo that we've only done 11 runs with. couldn't be more happy. - Cheyne Phillips |

Notes: Bret started the '87 season at Firebird Raceway's Super Bowl of Drag Racing on January 18. He qualified #2 in the eight-car field with a 6.50/206.42 but had troubles in the first round and slowed to a 7.89/119.68 that lost to Mike Haddox. At Pomona, for the NHRA Winternationals, a 6.362/217.07 qualified #5. Unfortunately, he fouled away a 6.53 in the first round and advanced Terry Mullins. He gwon bigat Baylands for the NHRA Division 7 race on April 26. It was a sixteen-car show, and he qualified #3. In round one, his 6.44/215.31 beat Jim Holtz, while a second round 6.48/210.77 beat Rick Henkelman. Billy Williams had troubles against him in the semifinal, and Bret moved into the final with a 6.41/216.34. In the final, he met Brad Anderson, and Williamson was up to the task, winning the race with a 6.83/207.37. He also did well at the next Division 7 race held at Famoso. He qualified #1 and then ran 6.45/217.39 and 6.53/220.04 to beat John Weaver and Chuck Beal in the first two rounds before coming up against Anderson in the semifinals. Both drivers ran 6.47 (Bret at 212.76), but Anderson won. Listed MPH from The Drag Racing List, Winter 87/88, Volume 2, Number 9. |

Notes: Mandoline was at Byron for the UDRA season opener in May. Twelve cars showed, and in the first round, all cars were racing the clock as only the four quickest times advanced to the semifinals. Surprisingly, Fred's 6.99 failed to advance. Fred won his first NHRA National event at the Springnationals in June. He set Low ET in qualifying #1 in the eight-car field with a 6.55/205.01. In the opening round, his 6.60/209.30 beat Vern Moats, and in the semifinals, a 6.67/208.81 beat Dick Bell and put him into the final against Frank Manzo. Frank was pretty tough to beat at this time, but Mandoline was up to the task, running 6.58/207.85 for the victory over Manzo's 6.70/206. On August 28, he also won the NHRA Division Three final held at Beech Bend. He had qualified second with a 6.66/209.30 behind Don Gerardot's 6.58/209. These two would both race their way into the final. In round one, Ronny Young broke, so Fred ran 6.69/208.81 to advance. In the semi-final, he ran 6.64/208.33 to defeat Dan Nimmo's 6.74/205. He then set Low ET and Top Speed in the final with a 6.50/212.00 to beat Gerardot's 6.81. Shortly after that, he went to Indy for the NHRA U.S. Nationals. His 6.50/213.77 qualified #4. Unfortunately, he was upset in the first round, where his 6.78/210.28 lost to Gary Henderson's 6.68/205. Bac-Man Heads. |

Notes: Trisch was at Cordova in August for the World Series of Drag Racing event. All the alcohol FCs made two runs, with the two Low ET setters running each other in the final. Tom ran 7.01/203.61 and 6.83/199.41. He advanced to the final against Dick Titsworth. Dick lost a blower on the line, and Trish ran 7.07/202.84 for the victory. Tom qualified #21 at Indy (need times) and lost in round one to Joe Amato, 6.88/202 to 6.95/200.44. Michael Beach photo from Martin, MI, 1976. |

Notes: Lou was at the Texas Motorplex in October for the NHRA Chief Nationals. You know it's a tough show when Gasparelli fails to qualify! He was the first alternate at 6.06/233.22. He got into the field when George Chambers could not run in eliminations. But an off-pace 7.78/106.61 in the opening round lost to eventual winner Pat Austin's 5.77/248. Things went better at Pomona for the NHRA World Finals. A 6.04/238.41 qualified #12. He improved to 5.97/237.90 to advance over a broken Terry Mullins in the first round. In round two, a better 5.95/238.03 defeated Mitch McDowell's 6.16/225. But once again, Austin put an end to his run. Lou slowed to 6.10/222.82 in the semifinal that lost to Pat's 5.84/245. |
