Notes: Research shows that a Bob Armstrong ran an Ardun-Merc-powered car in the A/Fuel Coupe-Sedan class in 1955. He set a new strip record at Pomona on July 17. At Colton on July 30, he turned 119.20 mph. At Colton, on July 30, he took a class win with 118.60 mph. Is this the same Bob Armstrong who started running the Nesbitt's Orange Special with an Ardun-Merc motor with his first partner, Hal Williams, in Apr. 1956? Possibly, but it needs confirmation. |

Notes: 'Chaos' is an AA/FA running in the NFAA Series here in England The mill is a 417 CI Emery, Rodeck billet block, driving a two speed Lenco CS1. Our Rules dictate a small fuel pump (25 GPM max) and we use a single 9 amp Mallory. You will realise that this is not a 'transformer' with a big fuel pump and twin MSD 44's. former Top Fuel owner John Wright is the driver (should that be pilot ?) of the fuel altered and this year, it has run a best of 6.335s (with a 1,000ft click-off) and a terminal of 218.31 MPH. Using a 'nostalgic' engine of this size, means we are giving away around 1000cc's to the guys that are running 526 CI Hemi's, but the little 392 derivative seems more than capable of giving them a spanking. And there is more power to come, thanks to input from Dave 'Nasty' Benjamin, who is providing set-up and tuning advice. The question is - given the configuration with the Donovan, is this the quickest ET that a Donovan has run in an altered? - Lawrie Gatehouse. Our answer: YES, this is the quickest Donovan powered AA/FA in history. (Also ran 6.44 at Shakespeare County in 2007). |
