Notes: Effused the cover of Drag News in February 1958: "One of the most astounding episodes in the annals of drag racing took place on this run by the Burkhart, Eichenhoffer & Bressetti roadster during the SCTA Invitational at Colton. shattering all precedence and records for class with a time of 145.86." According to Don Montgomery's "Those Wild Fuel Altereds," the Burkhart-Brammer-Burns team borrowed a 4/71 blown 331-inch hemi from the Brissette Bros. -Eichenhofer fuel roadster for this record-shattering run. Bob Brissette drove. - RT |

Notes: Time (on fuel) cited in Don Montgomery's definitive book "Those Wild Fuel Altereds." Note: all entries for this team use spelling "Burkhart" as appears throughout Montgomery's book. Name spelled "Burkhardt" in most period Drag News articles, captions, but those were frequently mispelled. We need to confirm which is correct. - RT |

Notes: Leon was at Irwindale on May 27 for a best-of-three-match race against Dale Emery driving the "Pure Hell." In their first race, Dale's 8.45/173 beat Fitzgerald's 8.51/181.44. But Leon came back out to tie things up with an 8.38/182 when the "Pure Hell" had to be shut off on the line. In the tie-breaker, Leon got the win with his 8.39/179.64, defeating Emery's 8.42/177. Leon also ran 8.44/178.82 at Irwindale on 6/24/67. |

Notes: Joe Haas' son got his nitro license in the Drastic Plastic car in 2015. He went an amazing 5.43/233 1000 foot shutoff at Route 66. Two weeks later, he came back and ran a 5.88/242 to get his license. Usually, drives his own Nimrod blown alky Mustang. - Joey Haas, Racin & Rockin Radio, 6/05/17 |
