Notes: Leroy was at Cecil County on June 15 for a four-car show. In his first race, he ran 7.87/196.50 to beat Leon Fitzgerald's 8.18/187.72. Unfortunately, he blew the engine in his second race while running Willie Borsch. On August 10, he was at Maple Grove for a match race against Borsch. The race was one and done when in their first encounter, Chadderton got sys and was headed straight for "Wild Willie." Leroy overcorrected, and the car rolled on its side and bounced down the track for about a hundred feet. Notes: A-modified roadsters commonly ran against fuel dragsters in Top Eliminator.; After successful outings at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Waters put some slicks on the roadster and did a gear change to run at a few drag races. On Nov. 9 at Riverside, he lost to Lyle Fisher in the Speed Sport roadster in A/MR class, turning 9.91 at 157.89 mph in the losing effort. The following week, the team went to Kingdon to see if they could beat Ernie Hashim's 165.44 mph track record. They made six runs but didn't come close. Notes: Dave was at Lions for an eight-car show on December. 6. He set Low ET and Top Speed of the meet in the first round, when his 7.55/208.33 beat Butch Thurmond. Unfortunately, in the semifinals he got out of shape and slowed to a 10.11/101.01 loss to eventual winner Bob Hankins' 7.69/192. The next day he went to Irwindale for a sixteen-car race. He qualified #1 with an unreal 7.35/208.80 (Top Speed and Low ET). A 7.46/205.94 beat Frank Harris in the first round, but in round two "Nanook" broke at 3/4 track while running against Mike Sullivan. Dave coasted to an 8.71/113.03 in the loss. |

Notes: Dave was at Irwindale on March 14 for an eight-car show. He qualified #1 with a 7.55 at a ridiculous shut off speed of just 65 mph. In the opening round, he ran a track record 7.30 at 204.08 to beat Lee LeBaron who lost a blower belt. In the semifinals, opponent Bob Hankins went up in smoke and Dave ran 7.36/189.86 to advance into the final. There, he would face Willie Borsch. Willie's best run that day was only a 7.71 so it looked like it was an easy win for Hough. But it was never easy when you faced Borsch. Dave spun the tires in the final and his 7.84 and an amazing 210.28 finished second best to the "Winged express" 7.71/201. On July 25, Dave was at Irwindale for a best of three match race against Dave Beebe in the "Dodge Fever" Challenger FC. Beebe won the first race with his 7.55/190 beating "Nanook's" 7.59/196.92, but the fuel altered came back to win the next two and the match with times of 7.34/207.36 and 7.35/206.88. He won the Labor Day Championships at Irwindale over an eight-car field. A 7.67/141.06 beat the "Scrounger" in the first round, while in round two, he advanced with a 7.88/139.53 when Gary Essman shut off after having a small fire on the line. In the final, he set Low ET and Top Speed while winning over Roger Garten with a 7.38/203.60. |

Notes: Borsch totaled his car at Michigan, and a week later, in July, he showed up at LaPlace in a new Logghe chassis car for a match race against the Burkholder brothers. One thing missing from the car at this race was the roll bar-mounted airfoil. In the first race, Willy eased the car to a bogging 10.31 that lost to Harry's 7.65. An 8.03 in the second race also lost to the brothers' 7.57, and in the third race, Willie got his new ride into the sevens with a 7.77, but still lost to Burkholder's 7.53. Qualified fourth at Ontario 11/21/70 at 7.313, although Mike Sullivan led qualifying in his similar car at 7.120. |
