Notes: Dan was at Irwindale on April 11 for an eight-car show. His 7.58/201.34 (Top Speed) qualified second to Willie Borsch's 7.56/200. Ed Moore fouled against him in the opening round, so Dan advanced with an 8.77/200.44. He got crossed up in the semifinal and shut down against eventual winner Bob Hankins' 7.59. |

Notes: Irwindale held an eight-car fuel altered show at their Labor Day Championships. Garten beat Skip Burroughs driving the "Baby Huey" car in the first round, with a 7.73/196.50. In the semifinals, both he and Ed Moore ran 7.58 at 196, but Moore got the win. Unfortunately for Ed, he hurt the motor and Roger was reinstated for the final where he met up with Dave Hough. An off pace 8.15/186.72 was good for the runner-up spot to Hough's strong 7.38/203 blast. Roger was at OCIR on September 12, racing in a sixteen-car field that consisted of Top Gas Dragsters, A/FDs, and Fuel Altereds. He advanced past the first-round with a nine-second time when Len Johns in the "Busby & Jones" car lost a motor on the line. In round two, his 8.22/165.74 lost to Bob Downey's 7.74/182. |

Notes: On February 1, Lions held an eight-car show. Lee set Top Speed at 189.07 in qualifying. He won his first-round race with an 8.64/187.50 over Larry Maldonado, but he lost to Bill Thurmond in the semifinals. He was at OCIR for an eight-car show on February 16, where he qualified #7 with an 8.38/189.86, but an 8.36/191.88 in the first round lost to Glenn Way's 8.04/191. He was back at Lions on May 17 there his 8.19 qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field. In the opening round, his 8.22/190.67 fell to Sush Matsubara's 7.88/189. Lee was at Lions for an eight-car show on December 6, but he lost to Tom Ferraro in the first round, with an off-pace 10.06/165.13. The next day he went to Irwindale for a sixteen-car show. He really stepped up, running a 7.64 to qualify second in the field. Unfortunately, the run came at a price as he had hurt some parts and could not run in eliminations. |

Notes: West was at Fremont in the first week of June for an eight-car show. He ran a career-best (to this point) 7.14/196.07 in the first round to beat Art McLaren in the "Pure Heaven." In the semi-final, he backed it up with a 7.15/193.96, but it was no match for eventual winner Dave Hough's 6.74/216. He lost in semis of 1976 Tucson Dragway Fuel Altered Nationals 9/76. West qualified 10th at Tucson Dragway AA/FA Nationals with a 7.69. | Plan A name came from Johnny and Jim West saying they would race a fuel altered, funny car, and top fuel car - Plan A, B, and C. - Johnny West, Draglist LIVE, 2/3/20 |

Notes: Chuck was at Lions on May 17 for an eight-car show. He qualified #2 with a 7.90, and in round one, his 8.52/178.21 advanced over Errol Long. In the semifinals, his 8.09/183.29 beat Sush Matsubara. This put him into the final against Willie Borsch. Willie had run two 7.75's to make the final. But in the final, Borsch's roadster went everywhere but straight. It was classic Willie at his best with a never say die 9.09 that finished runner-up to Chuck's 8.41/176.52. |

Notes: Bored .030 over 360 ci. - Dry weight 1955 lbs. - 50% Nitro. By the mid-'60s the heavier early Ford roadster had long fallen out of style in favor of Austin roadsters and Fiat coupes. But "go" this one did, until 1970. - RT |
