Notes: 1973 - Short funny car ran as fuel altered. The brothers teamed with Mike Day and built a Vega Panel wagon funny car. The car was lettered with Maroney Bros. And Day, and Blind Faith on the front spoiler. The body was out of the same mold that Don Schumacher campaigned as the Wonder Bread car. This car had the drive train from Mike's Fiat. A 326 cu in Small block Chevy, injected on 95% Nitro. A Crower Glide, 2-speed Lenco and 9" rear got the power down. The car was very lightweight at 1400 lbs wet. 110" wheelbase with a torsion front end made the car fun to drive. The team held the AHRA record in B/FA at 8.26 with this combination. - MaroneyRacing.com |

Notes: Set a national record at 7.42/191.89. However, a placard in Memory Grove in Bakersfield by the Pettinato team credits John with a 7.02/199.10 in 1972. We need to confirm where that happened. |

Notes: Gary was runner-up in class at the Pomona NHRA Winternationals in February. He won Irwindale in March at 7.52/201.34. Gary was at OCIR for an eight-car show on May 22. His 7.46/192.30 beat Tom Ferraro in round one. In the semi-finals, he smoked the tires and lost to eventual winner Mikio Oshioka's 7.10. Gary's great Irwindale 6.71/216 run was disputed, but the times came up on the clocks. |
