Notes: Leroy faced off against Willie Borsch in a best of three match race at Irwindale on July 23. In the first race Chadderton fouled away an 8.42/191.88 while Borsch blew his supercharger and injectors off while winning with an 8.87/132.35. Willie was unable to fix his car so Leroy came back out and ran an 8.35/193.54 solo. In the third race, Leon Fitzgerald brought his "Pure Heaven" to fill in. Leroy ran 8.22/195.64 to win the match over Leon's 8.46/178. |

Notes: Willie had quite a time at Pomona for the NHRA Pomona Winternationals. He won the AA/FA class, but had to get out and push the roadster when his competition broke. In the Super Eliminator class, he beat Bill Lawton's Mustang in the first round, with an 8.63, but in round two once again the roadster broke. Fortunately, his competition fouled so Willie got out and pushed it through again. His ETs on the two times he pushed were 144.65 and 143.45! He was unable to run the next round as he had damaged the motor. |

Notes: Leon was at Irwindale on May 27 for a best-of-three-match race against Dale Emery driving the "Pure Hell." In their first race, Dale's 8.45/173 beat Fitzgerald's 8.51/181.44. But Leon came back out to tie things up with an 8.38/182 when the "Pure Hell" had to be shut off on the line. In the tie-breaker, Leon got the win with his 8.39/179.64, defeating Emery's 8.42/177. Leon also ran 8.44/178.82 at Irwindale on 6/24/67. |

Notes: One-of-a-kind steel Willys with glass components ran as an AA/FA with blown 400 CID (0.30-over 392) fuel motor set back 25 percent, direct drive and a solid rear end. Fascinating feature in 4/67 Drag Racing magazine details a year of continuing problems sorting out the extremely ill-handling car, miraculously never crashing. Originally finished in '66, but did not complete a full run until '67. Handling issues solved when Chuck Finders talked them into replacing the direct drive with a Torqueflite, and to spring the rear. | John was at Irwindale on July 23 for an eight-car show. The Willys ran well hitting 8.63/170.13 in the first round, to beat Butch Pipins and 9.00/168.85 in the semifinals over Henry Harrison. He faced Bob Walker in the "Super Rat" in the final and his 8.63/170.77 finished second best to Walker's 8.58/172. |

Notes: Steel body with chopped top. Engine was set up with fuel injection with small beer keg for fuel tank and ran about 70% nitro. Transmission was C&O TorqueFlite. Engine was later traded for blown engine that was first used in the Durachrome Bug. This car was originally built for the street and sat for years in Warren's den and was converted back to the street in 1975. |

Notes: Bored .030 over 360 ci. - Dry weight 1955 lbs. - 50% Nitro. By the mid-'60s the heavier early Ford roadster had long fallen out of style in favor of Austin roadsters and Fiat coupes. But "go" this one did, until 1970. - RT |

Notes: Willie was at Irwindale on June 4 for an eight-car show. He qualified #2 with an 8.69 and in the first round, his 8.77/181.08 beat Gary Essman in the "Magic Muffler" car. In the semifinals, an 8.80/181 beat Henry Harrison driving the "Beaver Hunter." This put him in the final against Dale Emery in the "Pure Hell" car. Unfortunately, Bosch fouled away an 8.88/175.06 while Emery got the victory with an 8.92. |
