Notes: Photo taken at the 1990 NHRA U.S. Nationals, Indianapolis Raceway Park. Runner up to John Force at the last Cajun Nationals. | Richard attempted to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals but his best of 5.82-247.11 was only good enough for the third alternate spot. His luck wasn't much better at the NHRA Arizona Nationals when his 5.58 best failed to qualify. Richard didn't go to the NHRA Supernationals but he showed up at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals the following week (March 11). He qualified on the pole with a 5.45-242.42 in the eight car field. A first round 5.63-263.54 beat a tire smoking Freddie Neely but in the semifinals he lost to eventual winner Chuck Etchells. He qualified well at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals with a 5.49-266.74 (#9), but he lost in round one. Hartman ran a career best of 5.37 at 271.90 to qualify #6 at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. He beat Scott Kalitta in the first round but in round two his 5.56 lost to Ed McCulloch's 5.44. He bettered his previous best at the very next NHRA race, the Mid-South Nationals at Memphis. Only 14 cars showed for the sixteen car field so in qualifying, drivers could take it easy. Not so for Hartman as he belted out a 5.36 career best for the #6 spot. He lasted until round two when his reverser failed and he gave Bruce Larson a solo into the semifinals.

Notes: Rick Howard photo from 1992 NHRA Oldsmobile Springnats, Columbus. Qualified 14th at 5.63-263.54. Lost to John Force (photo) in round one. Gary ran a career best (to this point) 5.33-265.25 to qualify #8 at Pomona for the Winternationals. He lost to Del Worsham in the first round. He qualified #10 at the Arizona Nationals with a 5.50-267.69. He picked up to a 5.36-271.73 in the first round to beat Al Hofmann and in round two, his 5.43-267.37 beat Jim Epler's quicker 5.40-268. In the semifinals, he slowed to a 5.88-254.38 that lost to Richard Hartman's 5.85-209. He followed the NHRA tour to Houston for the Supernationals, but there he had problems and could only muster a 6.77-138.71 non-qualifying bid. He made the show at the NHRA Gatornationals, qualifying on the "bump" with a 5.49-268.33 but lost to low qualifier John Force in round one. Densham opened some eyes at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals when he ran 5.25-275.90 to qualify #2. He beat a tire smoking Gary Bolger in the first round with a 5.57-265.01. In round two, his 5.43-265.25 beat Paul Smith but in the semifinals, he ran an off pace 6.04-164.17 that lost to Worsham's 5.35-277.

Notes: Won emotional NHRA Ford Nats '92 (first NHRA national event win since 1979) just weeks after "Ma" Hoover passed away. Photo from 1992 U.S. Nationals. | Hoover qualified #14 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.42-273.72. He lost to John Force in the first round. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, he qualified #9 with a 5.47-272.47. He picked up to a career best (to this point) of 5.26 at 273.05 in the first round to beat Gary Bolger's 5.44-262. Another strong pass of 5.32-259.14 beat John Force's 5.46-271. In the semifinals, he beat Johnny West with a 5.34-265.87 to go into the final against Richard Hartman. Once again he made a strong run, clocking a 5.27-263.46 for his third career NHRA National event win over a tire smoking Hartman. It was Tom's first win since the '79 Winternationals, and it came just a month after his mother had passed away from heart disease. Hoover went on to Houston for the NHRA Supernationals where he ran 5.30-253.80 to qualify #6. A first round 5.72-193.25 beat Whit Bazemore's 5.78-178. In round two, he advanced with a 5.35-238.98 when Hartman fouled. In the semifinals, his 5.78-183.18 lost to Gordon Mineo's 5.34-250. He then went to Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. It was an eight car show and he qualified #4 with a 5.79-228.42. He worked his way into the final by beating Whit Bazemore in the first round (both ran 5.62, Tom at 261.32), and Paul Smith in the semifinals with a 5.58-260.19. In the final, he stopped Del Worsham for the victory with a 5.66-249.58. Next stop was Gainesville the following week (March 22) for the NHRA Gatornationals. Things didn't go so well there as he lost in the first round to Chuck Etchells after qualifying #12 with a 5.39-271.98. He debuted his new Dodge Daytona at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals.

Notes: Photo from Indy 1991. | Al started the season by qualifying #5 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.43-267.77. He improved to a 5.36-270.92 in the first round to beat Jim Epler's 5.46-255. But in round two he lost to Mike Dunn. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, a 5.44-267.45 qualified #8. He lost early there. Another early loss came at the NHRA Supernationals at Houston. He qualified #11 with a 5.45-262.39 but once again Dunn stopped him, this time in the first round.

He lost in round one with a 5.46-275.22 that finished second best to Tom Hoover's 5.39-260. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, his 5.26-277.52 qualified #2 behind Don Prudhomme's strong 5.19-265. Once again he lost to Hoover in the first round. Gainesville was NHRA's next stop for the Gatornationals. Force qualified #4 with a 5.36-276.92. This time Chuck Etchells stopped him in the first round. He finally got past round one at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals where he qualified #10 with a 5.57-255.75. He beat Art Hendey in the first round and in round two a 5.48-273.14 beat Hoover. His semifinal 5.55-268.01 lost to upstart Eric Reed's 5.51-259. At Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, he broke in round two and lost to Mark Oswald. He ran well, qualifying #8 with a 5.42-274.72 and improved to a 5.41 first round win over Paul Smith. Oswald got him again at the next NHRA event, the Cajun Nationals, where Mark stopped John's tire smoking car in the first round. Force qualified #10 with a 5.57-267.61. By the seventh race of the NHRA season, the Springnationals, John was hoping his luck would turn around. It didn't. A 5.37-273.05 qualified #7. In the first round he lost to alternate Jim White. He was in Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals on June 25. A 5.55-268.17 qualified #6 in the field. He beat Etchells in the first round with a 6.06-177.97. But in round two, Oswald's 5.60-256 beat his 5.63-263.00. He qualified #7 with a 5.39-276.15 at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. He beat Tim Grose in the first round but a 5.54 in round two lost to Kenny Bernstein's 5.36. The next NHRA event was the Mile High Nationals in Denver. Crew chief Austin Coil tuned the car to a 5.70-250.00 in the thin air to qualify #7 in the show. John beat Richard Hartman in the first round but in round two his 5.70 lost to Oswald's 5.64. On July 30, John was running at Sonoma for the NHRA California Nationals. A 5.45-274.22 qualified #7 in the field and he improved to 5.42-273.72 to beat Jim Murphy in the first round. In round two, his 5.51-272.97 beat Tony McCallum's 5.57-258. Unfortunately, in the semifinals, he ran into a hard running Prudhomme who strapped a 5.35-268 on John's 5.50-271.65.

Notes: Photo from Milan, MI, 1989. Jim replaced Johnny West as the driver of Roland Leong's "Hawaiian" entry for '89. The team started the season by qualifying #10 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.43-258.24. Jim cut a good light in his first round race against Mike Dunn and his 5.46-258.10 beat Mike's better 5.42-269. In round two he beat Art Hendey with a 5.55-216.50 but as can be seen by his speed, he hurt some parts and was unable to make his semifinal race against Bruce Larson. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, the team qualified #13 and lost to Larson in the first round. White qualified #8 at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, but once again he was on the trailer after the first round. Things went even worse at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals and Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals where the team failed to qualify. The "Hawaiian" was at Bristol in May for the IHRA Springnationals. Jim qualified #3 in the eight car field with a 5.54-251.32 but he smoked the tires to a 6.33-181.96 in the first round that lost to Tony McCallum's 5.76-247. The team continued to have trouble qualifying for NHRA fields. At the Springnationals, White was first alternate with a best of 5.58-260.11. He managed to get into the show when #15 qualifier McCallum had a blower explode and destroy his T-Bird. Jim beat John Force in the first round. In round two, Kenny Bernstein smoked the tires against him and Jim's 5.70-253 advanced. Unfortunately, he smoked the tires in the semifinals and lost to Tom Hoover. The NHRA tour then shifted to Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals. A 5.64-237.52 qualified #11. In the first round he smoked the tires and shut off to a 13.63-78.78 that lost to Larson's 5.49-265. After that, it was back to the U.S. at Milan, Michigan, for the IHRA Northern Nationals. The "Hawaiian" qualified #2. A 5.63-248.75 advanced past R.C. Sherman in the first round but the Daytona broke on the line in the semifinals against Doc Halladay. The following week (July 9), he was at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals where they again failed to qualify. White qualified well at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals with a 5.68-255.53 for the #6 spot. He beat Gary Densham in the first round before losing to Larson's 5.65 with a 5.78. It seemed as though the team found something as at Sonoma they qualified #5 with a 5.40-268.41. He beat Dale Pulde in the first round with a 5.67-258.74. Jim then had problems and shut off to a 10.69 that lost to eventual winner Don Prudhomme's 5.38-268. The good runs continued when at Sonoma for the NHRA California Nationals. Jim qualified #3 with a great 5.33-266.98. A 5.48-253.16 beat a tire-smoking McCallum in the first round and in round two, his 5.50-258.77 beat Jim Murphy. He was in the semifinals at an NHRA national event for the third time this season but once again the gremlins stepped in and he broke against Larson. On August 13, he was at Martin, Michigan, for its Wolverine Nationals. It was an eight car show and all cars ran two runs with the two lowest ETs meeting in the final. Jim ran a 6.03-246.21 in his first race over Ronny Young but in his second race, he smoked the tires and shut off. His ETs were not good enough to advance to the final. His next stop was at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals. He qualified #5 with a 5.45-267.69 but he slipped to an off pace 7.51-111.85 in the first round that lost to R.C. Sherman's 5.68-256.

Notes: Glenn qualified first at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.33. He made his way into the final by having a first round tire smoking battle with Wyatt Radke that he won with a 7.89-220.53 to Wyatt's 8.07-106. In the second round, another 5.33 at 279.24 beat Richard Hartman's 5.50-272 and in the semifinals, he set low ET and top speed with a 5.28-284.00 that beat Mike Dunn's 5.39-266. In the finals he ran John Force and Glenn had problems and slowed to a 5.87-182.70 that finished runner-up to Force's 5.31-239. Glenn lost to Mike Dunn in the second round at the NHRA Arizona Nationals where his 5.35-280 lost to Mike's 5.36-274. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, a 5.30 qualified #5 but he again lost in round two. This time his 5.35-285.26 lost to Force's 5.27-275. Earlier, Mikres had set top speed of the meet at 286.25. The team didn't qualify as well at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals only getting the #12 spot in the field but Glenn beat Jerry Caminito's 5.85-197 in the first round with a 5.42-261.62. A second round 5.49-266.82 lost to Mike Dunn's 5.34-264.

Notes: Mike and Joe had a good season in '89. It started at the Winternationals where Mike qualified #2 with a 5.34-279.85 (Top Speed). He had a bit of a snooze in the first round and his 5.42-269.13 lost to Jim White's 5.46-258. They went on to the Supernationals where once again they lost in the first round. At the Gatornationals, Mike set track records of 5.28-280.19 in qualifying first but for the third straight race they lost in round one. This time to R.C. Sherman. Things went much better in Atlanta for the Southern Nationals. A 5.48-266.35 qualified #5. He beat Tony McCallum and low qualifier Bruce Larson in the first two rounds. In the semifinal, he beat Don Prudhomme's 5.53 with a 5.48-263.15. In the final, he met newcomer Eric Reed. Reed smoked the tires and Dunn claimed his first win of the season with a 5.60-264.08. The next event on the schedule was the Mid-South Nationals at Memphis. There Mike used a 5.31-280.98 (Top Speed) qualified #2. He lost to Art Hendey in round one. Mike took his second win at the Cajun Nationals. He qualified #3 with a 5.44-272.23 (Top Speed). He beat Tom Hoover in the first round and in the second round he got a solo because his competition, Whit Bazemore, was unable to run. In the semifinal, both he and Prudhomme smoked the tires but Mike's 5.83-254 came out on top. In the final, he faced John Martin but Martin broke and Dunn's 5.63-268.25 got the victory. The seventh race of the season was the Springnationals. Mike qualified #4 with a 5.33-274.97. He beat Martin in the first round. In the second round both he and Chuck Etchells smoked the tires and Chuck got the win. Mike and the Joe Pisano team did not run in Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals but there were back on the tour for the next NHRA event, the Summernationals at Englishtown. Dunn ran 5.44 to qualify #10 but he lost to Ed McCulloch in round one. At Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals, a 5.68-255.46 qualified #5 in the thin air. He beat Jim Murphy in round one before losing to Kenny Bernstein's 5.62 with a 5.65 in round two. At Sonoma at the end of July for the NHRA California Nationals, Mike qualified #12 with a 5.59-265.33 but lost to Mark Oswald in the "Candies and Hughes" car in the first round. | Also 5.397 from 89 U.S. Nationals. Notes: Photo from Columbus 1989. Won first funny car event at 89 Supernationals over Bruce Larson. Scott used a 5.40-279.06 to qualify #6 at Pomona for the Winternationals. A first round 5.78-218.44 lost to Art Hendey's 5.54-260. He broke through with his first ever NHRA national event win at the Supernationals on March 5. He qualified #6 with a 5.32 and set Top Speed at 279.55.
