Notes: Eric qualified #8 with a 5.52/257.51 at the NHRA Southern Nationals and beat Stephen Bernd in the first round. A second round 5.72/250.41 got past Kenny Bernstein, and in the semifinals, he a 5.51/259.81 to beat John Force's 5.55/268. Unfortunately, he spun the tires in the final and lost to Mike Dunn. He then went to Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, using a 5.52/257.43 to qualify #12. He lost to Mark Oswald in the first round. Eric attempted to qualify at the NHRA Springnationals, but a best of 5.63/259.36 was only good for the third alternate. AKA Eric Reed-Dowd. Photo from Columbus 1989.

Notes: Halladay was the first alternate at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational. His 5.52/261.78 just missed the 5.51 "bump" for the eight-car field. He had one of the sixteen cars that showed up at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. A 5.66/258.17 qualified #15, and in the opening round, his 5.61/259.96 lost to Bruce Larson's engine-blowing 5.26/273. He qualified #4 at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals with a 5.87/246.91. A 5.85/246.65 in the first round defeated Freddie Neely, and in the semi-final, Chuck Etchells smoked the tires against him, and Doc advanced at 5.77/259.74. He faced K.C. Spurlock in the final, and Halladay fouled, giving the win to Spurlock's 5.65/257. Not long after that (June 17), he was at St.Louis for the IHRA Gateway Nationals. His 5.74/256.80 qualified second to Neely's 5.62/259.Doc's 5.85/252.42 in the first round beat Dal Denton. He then ran 5.84/250.45 in the semi-final to beat Chuck Etchells' 5.85. He faced Marc Sievers in the final, and Marc smoked the tires while Halladay ran 5.79/254.47 for the win. He lost early at the IHRA Empire Nationals held at New York International on July 1. His 5.72 in the first round fell to Tom Hoover's 5.74. Despite the early loss, he maintained his second-place holding in the IHRA FC points. He then went to Kansa City International for its Summernationals race. Only six cars showed, and Doc lasted until the semi-final before losing a blower against eventual winner Gary Densham. Doc went 5.77/259.74 at Bristol 6/90. He ran NHRA regular season bests of 5.593 at Brainerd and 259.96 at Atlanta.

Notes: Ray Higley was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where his 5.663/250.48 ended up as the fourth alternate for the show. He was the fourth alternate at Houston as well, running 5.807/261.02. Ray was the second alternate at Memphis at 5.900/254.09, but he got into the show. He dropped a 5.36 to 5.801/256.82 decision to Cruz Pedregon in round one. Ray was the first alternate at Englishtown at 5.808/222.18, but he got into the show as an alternate again. He broke in the first round, against Al Hofmann. Ray qualified #15 at Columbus with a solid 5.559/268.89. Unfortunately, it was he who could not make the call in round one, and Rick Sherrell took his place. Ray was the third alternate at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals with a 5.520/266.35 best. He was also the third alternate at NHRA Ennis with a 5.579 at only 198 mph. And then, you guessed it, the third alternate at the World Finals at 5.765/189.

Notes: Only seventeen cars showed up to qualify in Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals. Kramberger's 5.89/251.81 qualified on the "bump." In the opening round, his 5.88/241.35 fell to Scott Kalitta's 5.57/265. He failed to qualify at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. Frank was having all kinds of problems trying to get in a good run at Indy to qualify for the NHRA US Nationals. It didn't happen, as the best pass he could make was 10.84/82.25. He did get a little consolation when he won the award for "best appearing car." He didn't have much better luck the following week (September 10) at Darlington, where he was the fourth alternate for the eight-car field with a 6.52/198.42 best at the IHRA US Open Championships. Not many teams could say they picked up over four seconds from one week to the next. But he improved more at Maple Grove on September 17 for the NHRA Keystone Nationals. There, his 5.61/227.15 qualified on the "bump," but he broke against eventual winner John Force in the first round. Photo from Indy 1989.

Notes: Photo from the 1990 NHRA US Nationals, Indianapolis Raceway Park. | The '90 season saw Densham without the aid of his long term crew chief, Henry Velasco. He showed up at Firebird Raceway for it's test and tune race in Jan with Richard Bays turning the wrenches. Gary also got a sponsor, Jerry Lowery's California Discount Warehouse. He made two runs at Firebird, a 5.80/231.89 and a 5.47 that came with a career best speed (to this point) of 267.06. Gary attempted to qualify for the NHRA Winternationals, but his best of 5.63/262.31 was only good for first alternate. He did make the show at the second NHRA race of the season, the Arizona Nationals where a 5.55/263.38 qualified on the "bump spot." He lost to KC Spurlock in the first round. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, he still lost in the first round, (to Mark Oswald), but he qualified #13 with a 5.58/255.17.

Notes: Doc did not have a good weekend on March 20 at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. He qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field with a 5.817/252.03, but the car went into heavy tire shake in the opening round of eliminations. That caused the body to shake and jam the throttle open in his race against Scott Kalitta. Halladay rode the centerline and knocked out the top-end photocells before enough air got under the body to rip in off the chassis. He ran a low gear only 6.54/212 and was unhurt except for his pocketbook. Halladay qualified #13 at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals with a 5.741/249.51. He lost to Don Prudhomme in the first round, 5.47/263 to 5.825/270.77. Shortly after that, he was at Norwalk for the IHRA World Nationals. There, his 5.77/248.62 qualified #4 in the eight-car field. Doc qualified #14 at the Houston Supernationals at 5.633/249.44. He lost to Prudhomme again in round one, 5.30/267 to 5.719/247.11. That was Doc's last NHRA national event of the year. Confirmed 5.633 at Houston Fall '88 and 252.03 from Gainesville '88. Where was the 5.53 at 267 run? | Halladay turned a 5.87/240.0 while winning the Funny Car title at the 1988 Olympics of Drag Racing (Union Grove, Wis.) Notes: Photo from Indy 1986. Qualified on the bump at 2006 US Nats at 5.809. We need to confirm these best times for 2006. Ran identical 5.531 at Ennis Fall 87. Drag Racing List has 5.686/261.62 in the 86/87 issue. | Head started the '86 season at Firebird Raceway's Super Bowl of Drag Racing. He qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car show with a 5.90/247.93. In the first round his 5.93/257.14 lost to Tom Hoover's 5.86/245. Jim attempted to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but his best of 6.16/205.47 failed to make the field. Atlanta held an eight-car show early in the year and Jim qualified #5 with a 6.39/188.28. Unfortunately, on his qualifying pass, the blower let go and it tore up the tinwork in the Firenza. He was unable to run and alternate Steve Hodkinson replaced him in eliminations. The car was fixed in time for Gainesville and the running of the NHRA Gatornationals. He qualified #11 with a 5.89/253.52. He lost to Billy Meyer in the first round. At Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, he ran 5.91/250.41 to qualify #10. He beat Mark Oswald in the "Candies and Hughes" car in the first round, and in round two, both he and Paul Smith smoked the tires with Jim's 6.22/248.48 getting the win. In the semifinals, Johnny West, driving the "Hawaiian," fouled against him, so he motored into the final with an 8.38/108.93. In the final, he ran Ed McCulloch and although both ran 6.00 (Head at 250.13), Ed got the win. Baton Rouge for the Cajun Nationals was NHRA's next stop and Head was there, qualifying #8 with a 5.94/250.97. A first-round 6.07/214.18 beat Jerry Jefferson, but in round two against Billy Meyer, he got out of shape and crossed the centerline.

Notes: Jim's answer to Bernstein's Batmobile car. Jim was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but he failed to qualify. He exploded a supercharger on one attempt, and his best of 5.85/243.04 was good for the second alternate. Atlanta held an eight-car show in March, run in conjunction with the NHRA Division 2 race. It was initially scheduled for the 8th, but it was postponed one week to the 15th due to rain. Jim qualified #2 in the field with a 5.85/222.22. He beat Raymond Beadle in the "Blue Max" in the first round, with a 5.94/237.46. In the semifinals, he ran an easy solo pass when Johnny West could not run after hurting his engine in the "Hawaiian." In the final, Jim was up against low qualifier Tom Hoover. Head reset the track record with a 5.66 at 234.37 to get the victory over Hoover's 6.01/228. Due to the rain delay, Jim could not race at the IHRA Winternationals as it was run the same day as the Atlanta event. So, the following week (March 22), he was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, where his 5.76/251.81 qualified #12. A first-round 5.70/253.30 beat a tire-smoking Beadle, but in round two, he smoked the tires to 6.75/119.11 and lost to West's 5.81/248. The next stop was at the Texas Motorplex for the NHRA Winston All-Star race. It was an eight-car field, and Jim's best of 5.71/254.88 failed to make the show. Head debuted his new "Batmobile" Firenza at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, where he ran 5.81/256.41 to qualify #10 for the show. Only sixteen cars showed for the sixteen-car field, so qualifying was easy. In the first round, he had a blower explode, and he slowed to 6.10/187.03 in a loss to John Force's 6.01/253. Shortly after that, he went to Maple Grove for the Spring Funny Car Nationals. He qualified for the final by running 5.82. The other finalist was Bruce Larson, who had run 5.79. Jim got off the line first in the final, and his 5.78/222.22 held off Bruce's quicker 5.72/247 for the title. He was at Rockingham in May for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. He qualified #2 in the eight-car show with a 5.81 behind Kenny Bernstein's 5.67. These two would work their way to the final. Jim ran 5.91/250.00 over Scott Kalitta and 5.93/247.93 in the semifinals to advance when Mark Oswald broke in the "Candies and Hughes" car. Bernstein had the edge as he had run 5.70s to reach the final. Sure enough, Kenny reached deep into his bag of tricks in the final and came up with a 5.61/256 to win over Jim's runner-up effort of 5.89/248. The Cajun Nationals was the second NHRA national event in a row that only had sixteen fuel funnies show. A 5.93/233.28 qualified Jim #6, and in round one, his 5.95/246.23 beat Pat Walsh's 6.09/232. He improved to 5.88/225 in round two to advance when Force broke on the line. But in the semifinals, he had problems and slowed to 7.42/132.17 in a loss to West's 5.68/253. In June, Jim was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. He qualified #12 with a 5.92/244.56 and an opening-round 5.89/242.98 beat Larson. He surprised a tire-smoking Hoover in the second round with another 5.92 at 250.27 to advance into the semifinals, where he would meet Dominic Santucci. Jim ran his best ET of the weekend, a 5.84 at 246.23, to beat Santucci's 5.99/247. In the final, he faced Billy Meyer, who had not won an NHRA event since 1984. Meyer changed all that by running 5.84/251 to claim the victory over Head's troubled 7.07/132.80. He then went to Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals. The field was one car short, but Jim still reeled off a 5.85/248.62 to qualify #6. An opening round 5.90/241.61 beat Jerry Caminito's 6.08/236 but in round two, his off-pace 6.33/156.63 fell to Ed McCulloch's 5.88/247. Back in the US for the NHRA Sunmmernationals held at Englishtown in July, he was the first alternate at 5.87/235.47 when twenty-four cars attempted to qualify. Not long after that (July 26), he was at Bandimere for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. Head qualified #12 with a 6.01/235.29, but he went out early when his 6.05/234.92 lost to Oswald's 5.90/247 in the opening round. Twenty-one cars showed to attempt to qualify at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals held in Mid-August. Jim got the #11 spot in the field with his 5.73/244.89. A tire-smoking shut-off 12.37 lost to Meyer's 5.70/259 in round one. RH

In the first round, he advanced when his opponent, Doc Halladay, got out of shape and crossed the centerline. But in round two, Grose's Firebird broke and Graeme Cowin soloed into the semifinals.

Notes: Caminito's bad luck continued at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. He qualified #10 with a 5.62but in the opening round of eliminations, the car broke a couple of connecting rods, and the car caught fire. Jerry ended up with a badly burnt right hand but was otherwise ok. At Atco, for the IHRA Summernationals, Caminito qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field with a 5.98/241.28. He faced low qualifier Ed McCulloch in the first round, and gambled on the tree. It came up red, and his 5.86 showed that he had to take the chance as Ed won with a 5.53. His next stop was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. Once again, he was on the bump, and this time he lost to John Martin in the first round. He followed the NHRA tour to Canada for the Grandnationals, where his 5.89/249.79 qualified #12. Only fourteen cars showed, so some cars took it easy in qualifying as the last car in was at 7.38. Jerry got a break in the first round, when Kenny Bernstein fouled against him, but in round two, he lost to Johnny West driving the "Hawaiian." Back stateside for the NHRA Summernationals, he ran 5.70/252.10 to qualify #15. Jerry was at Maple Grove for the Super Stock Nationals. He qualified #5 in the eight-car field with a 5.80/245.23, but an off-pace 6.21/206.89 lost to eventual winner Bernstein's 5.66/248 in the opening round. | Best NHRA times are shown. Notes: Teamed with Joe Amato. Photo from Columbus 1987. Bruce had been running his Corvette for the early part of the season until he debuted his Beretta at the NHRA Springnationals in June. It did well during qualifying, running 5.74/249.93 for the #4 spot in the field. Unfortunately, he lost to Jim Head in the first round. The following week, he took it to Maple Grove for the Super Stock Magazine Nationals. A 6.16/166.66 qualified #5 in the eight-car field setting up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Kenny Bernstein. Larson improved to 5.85/232.55 in their race, but Kenny's 5.71/244 got the win. Bruce went to Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals. Qualifying was easy as only 15 cars showed. Still, Larson laid down a 5.88/244.83 to qualify #7. He had a close first-round race against Tom McEwen that saw his 5.93/247.72 lose to McEwen's 5.91/240. Closer to home, he was at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. His 5.75/248.55 qualified #10, but a 5.87/251.81 lost to Mark Oswald's 5.64/251 in the "Candies and Hughes" car in round one. He followed the NHRA tour to Denver for the Mile High Nationals where he qualified #6 with a 5.85/244.56. But in the opening round, he smoked the tires and lost to Steve Hodkinson. At the NHRA Northstar Nationals, a 5.75/251.18 qualified #12, but again he lost in round one. This time Don Prudhomme's 5.73/253 beat his off-pace 6.08/234.92. Bruce was one of eight-cars that had run well enough to qualify for the "Big Bud Shootout" held in conjunction with the NHRA US Nationals at Indianapolis. But his first-round bad luck persisted when he smoked the tires and shut of to 6.95/135.29 in a loss to Billy Meyer's 5.71/259. For the US Nationals the next day, 21 cars attempted to qualify for the show. Larson qualified #9 with a 5.72. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Bernstein where once again Bruce went into tire smoke, and he lost to eventual winner Bernstein. | 261.02 was at the 1987 NHRA Motorcraft Gatornationals Gainesville with the Corvette. He ran 256.33 at Phoenix for the NHRA Castrol GTX Fallnationals on 10/18/87. Just looking for the Fastest Speed recorded in 1987 for Bruce with this Beretta. - Rob McCabe

In the opening round of eliminations, his 5.83/250.48 lost to low-buck racer Steve Hodkinson's 5.74/241. On March 15, the "Hawaiian" team went to Atlanta for an eight-car show. A 5.90/241.93 qualified #3. West ran 6.17/204.08 in the first round, to beat a tire-smoking Paul Smith, but the run was costly as it hurt the motor, and he was unable to return to run in the semifinals. A week later(March 22), they were at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. There a 5.67/257.65 qualified #8. An easy 5.79/242.19 beat Scott Kalitta's off=pace 6.21/185 in round one. Johnny's 5.81/248.48 beat Jim Head's smokey,6.75/119. Ed McCulloch also smoked the tires against him in the semifinals, and West's 5.76/252 advanced. However, all was not rosy as West had spun a bearing in his semifinal win. The team had to install a new "bullet" for the final, and in their haste, they failed to torque down the cylinder heads properly. Their final-round opponent was Don Prudhomme. Shortly after leaving, the line and "Hawaiian" broke, leaving the "Snake" all alone to run 5.72/260 for his first victory since '82. As mentioned above, he ran a career-best 5.543/263.92 to qualify #5 in the eight-car field at the Texas Motorplex for the NHRA Winston All-Star event. In the first round, he faced the low qualifier, Kenny Bernstein, and despite running 5.64/227.79, he lost to Bernstein's "Batmobile" at 5.39/263. The next stop was at Firebird Raceway for the Coor's Funny Car race. Ten cars were there that were to make two runs each. The two Low ET cars would then meet in the final. In West's first race, his 6.23/186.33 lost to Jim Dunn's 6.22/231. He picked up to 5.95/231.95 to win his second race when Tom McEwen crossed the centerline. Only two cars had run fives, his and John Force, who had run 5.88 and 5.85 to reach the final. Both made strong runs in the final as both crossed the stripe at 5.89 (West at 225.56), but Force got the "win" light. It was then back to Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. Johnny ran 5.78/244.63 to qualify the #8 beat he lost in the opening round to Kalitta. Famoso held its Bakersfield Meet on May 3, and West qualified #5 in the eight-car show with a 5.82/231.36. But in round one, his 6.10/225.00 held to the eventual winner Force, at 5.65/264. The team got a shot in the arm at Tulsa International for its annual Spring race. It was another eight-car show, and West qualified #2 with a 5.92/240.64. An opening round 6.00/238.72 beat Ron Dudley's 6.17/237, and he had a close race with Prudhomme in the semifinals that saw both run 6.04 (West at 240.64), but Johnny took the win. He faced Darrell Amerson in the final, and Darrell had just turned a career-best 5.93 in winning his semifinal race. But the run had been costly, and Darrell was a no-show, so West singled for the victory with a 5.94/243.24. The "Hawaiian" was at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals near the end of May. Only sixteen cars showed for the sixteen-car field, and West qualified last at 12.16/68.22. But the race was postponed one week due to rain. Crew chief Roland Leong could not return for the rain date, so Johnny had to work double duty. Things worked out pretty well. A first-round 5.65252.03 stoppedMcEwen's 6.11/237. A second-round 5.63/256 halted the "Snake's" 5.81/250, and in the semifinals, his 5.68/253 beat Jim Head's troubled 7.42/132. He faced Bernstein in the final, which was the end of the run for West. A 5.99/233.83 finished second best to Kenny's 5.76/258. Confirmed 263.69 at Ennis TX 10/87. Did Johnny go 5.501 at NHRA Maple Grove? We think that is a misprint because Mark Oswald is credited with Low ET there at 5.512. | At Englishtown on 8/30/87 during the K-Mart/Polaroid US All Pro Funny Car Championships, it had read that Johnny Ran 5.359 against John Force in the 2nd Round. However, it was discovered a malfunction Time stop Photocell had shaken loose from the fastener due to the turbulence from West's car & stopped the clocks (Report from 9/6/87 copy of Raceway News). - Rob McCabe

Notes: Gary attempted to qualify at the Springnationals, but his 5.617/245.76 best was only good for the second alternate. | At the Night of Thrills at Englishtown, Densham ran 5.76/230.76 in the first round on a single after Opponent Frank Kramberger broke & had one of the 2 quickest ETs of the Round (2nd to John Force) to make it to the final run off where he would Defeat an unusually tardy Force with a 5.72/247.25. | He did make the field at the next race, the Grandnationals in Canada, where a 5.827/248.48 qualified #15. In the first round, he improved to 5.795/265.25 but still lost to Don Prudhomme's 5.722/256.99. Gary competed at an eight-car show at Firebird Raceway featuring Jets vs. Funny Cars on June 30. He beat Bruce McComb in the first race with a 6.35 and won his second race over Sue Merman with a 6.30/227.56. At Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals, a 5.989/235.23 qualified #14, but he lost to Jim White in the first round, 5.899/248.64 to 6.112/233.52. He was in Seattle on August 6 for the NHRA Seafair Nationals, where he ran a strong 5.547/256.55 to qualify #13. He advanced with a 6.644/200.89 when Mike Dunn broke a rear end in the first round. In round two, he lost to eventual winner Bruce Larson, 5.353/270.10 to a 13-second shutoff. He won the Firebird Nightfire Nationals a week later (August 13). He set Low ET and Top Speed at 6.10/227.76, and in the final, his 6.14/226.61 took the victory when Wally Giavia lost a blower. Gary was the fifth alternate at the Castrol GTX Fallnationals at 5.705/249.37. He also failed to qualify at the NHRA Finals, with his 5.654/263.31 taking the sixth alternate slot. Notes: Eric had Steve Chrisman and Tim Grose drive the for him in Pomona and Gainesville. He began to drive at the Cajun Nationals, where he qualified #13 at 7.261/129.16. He improved mightily in round one, to a 6.023/222.22 but lost to Ed McCulloch's 5.87/257. He was the fourth alternate at NHRA Columbus at 6.148/230.76. Eric was in Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals at the end of June. He qualified #10 with a 5.982/248.75. In the first round, his off-pace 6.083/239.23 lost to Billy Meyer's 5.79/254. He then went to Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, but his 5.965/240.32 best was good for the third alternate. He skipped the NHRA Mile High Nationals in Denver. On August 1, he was at the Texas Motorplex for the Motorcraft Funny Car Challenge race. All eight cars ran two rounds, with the two lowest ETs advancing into the final. Eric had some good help here as Dale Emery gave him a hand. In his first race against Mike Dunn, Reed got out of shape and shut off to 7.49/130.31. Things didn't go so well in his second race either, as the car broke on the line. Emery continued to help him at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals. A 5.818/250.97 qualified #13, and he lost to John Force in the opening round, 5.65/259 to 7.81/117. Eric put in a good showing at Indy, where he qualified #11 at 5.748/239.87. He got revenge on Billy Meyer in round one, with a huge holeshot and extended the lead in performance as well, earning a 5.767/244.10 to 5.823/200.04 victory. He lost to Johnny West in round two with a 10-second shut-off. Eric qualified #13 at Maple Grove at 5.824/196.97. In round one, he lost to Don Prudhomme, 5.58/254 to 5.805/212.76. Eric got his best numbers of the near at the Ennis Chief Auto Parts race. He qualified #13 at 5.550/261.32. He stood toe to toe with Mark Oswald in round one, but lost with his best speed of the year, 5.42/260 to 5.556/267.69. Eric qualified in his traditional #13 slot at Phoenix Fall with a 5.780/257.73. He did not race in round one, and first alternate Johnny West took his spot against John Force. Eric qualified #16 at the Pomona World Finals at 5.670/249.79, but he fouled against Raymond Beadle in round one. AKA Eric Reed-Dowd. Photo from Columbus 1987.

Notes: Santucci was at Englishtown in mid-April for its Spring FC Bonanza race. Only six cars ran, and in the first round, his 6.29/187.50 beat Pat Walsh. He reached the final, where his 5.96/241.93 got the victory over Paul Smith, who was driving Chuck Etchells' car. Dom switched to this T-Bird in early 1986, and numbers improved almost immediately. He qualified #14 at Columbus at 5.950/244.36 and surprised Mike Dunn with a holeshot win in round one, 5.927/246.50 to 5.898/252.66. In round two, the good times continued, as Mark Oswald shut off to a 12-second pass as Santucci advanced with a great 5.802/253.44. Jim Head ended Dom's day in the semis, but he did not go down without a fight. The numbers were 5.84/246 to Santucci's 5.999/247.79. He qualified on the "bump" at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals with a 5.866/250.62. In the opening round of competition, his 5.991/245.90 lost to Don Prudhomme's 5.72/250. Dominic was the first alternate at Maple Grove with a 5.936/247.59. He ran 5.55 at an Englishtown match race (need confirmation). Ford Thunderbird by Bob Jinkins ran from 1986/90. Notes: Jerry failed to qualify for the eight-car field at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. During the week before the NHRA Gatornationals, Caminito was T-boned by Jerry Jefferson at a match race. He arrived at Gainesville with the damaged car, and chassis builder Murf McKinney came to the race to ensure the chassis had no damage. They redid the fiberglass on the right side of the car. They finished it Wednesday at 11:00 pm. Caminito then ran 5.840/250.55 to qualify #14. After all that work, he fouled away a 5.878/191.40 in the first round, against John Force. His next stop was at Englishtown's Spring Funny Car Bonanza race in April. Jerry didn't reach the final, but he set Low ET and Top Speed at 5.88/241.93. At Maple Grove for its Spring Funny Car Nationals, Caminito failed to make the finals in the 12 car show that was run "Chicago Style." He did run 5.88/234.37 on one pass, but he blew the clutch on his other pass. rnAt the NHRA Grandnatinals, Jerry qualified #13 at 10.85 in a short field.
