Notes: JJ ran the Nova at Irwindale on Jan 26 and at the NHRA Winternationals on Feb 1 where he failed to qualify. He raced on Feb 14 at Lion's but not sure which car. Considering that he raced the Camaro the next day at i would think the Camaro was first used around the middle on Feb starting at Lion's. - Ron Howard

Notes: Rick Howard photo from 1992 NHRA Oldsmobile Springnats, Columbus. Qualified 14th at 5.63-263.54. Lost to John Force (photo) in round one. Gary ran a career best (to this point) 5.33-265.25 to qualify #8 at Pomona for the Winternationals. He lost to Del Worsham in the first round. He qualified #10 at the Arizona Nationals with a 5.50-267.69. He picked up to a 5.36-271.73 in the first round to beat Al Hofmann and in round two, his 5.43-267.37 beat Jim Epler's quicker 5.40-268. In the semifinals, he slowed to a 5.88-254.38 that lost to Richard Hartman's 5.85-209. He followed the NHRA tour to Houston for the Supernationals, but there he had problems and could only muster a 6.77-138.71 non-qualifying bid. He made the show at the NHRA Gatornationals, qualifying on the "bump" with a 5.49-268.33 but lost to low qualifier John Force in round one. Densham opened some eyes at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals when he ran 5.25-275.90 to qualify #2. He beat a tire smoking Gary Bolger in the first round with a 5.57-265.01. In round two, his 5.43-265.25 beat Paul Smith but in the semifinals, he ran an off pace 6.04-164.17 that lost to Worsham's 5.35-277.

Notes: Dick Harrell, known to his many fans as Mr. Chevrolet, was forced to abandon his trusty semi-hemi and adopt Chrysler elephant power for his final season. He had stayed with Chevy through 1970, knowing he would not be able to win any major meets, just because he thought his fans Expected brand loyalty. In the short 1971 season that followed, that turned out not to be a problem. The fans stayed with him. Harrell was killed on Sept. 12, 1971 on a strip in Toronto, Ontario, when a lightweight front tire came apart at over 200 mph, sending him into a utility pole. Just two days earlier at U.S. 30 Dragstrip (Gary IN) he had participated in a benefit race to defray hospital bills for racer Larry Reyes, who was himself seriously injured in an earlier crash caused by the failure of a front tire. -- RT | In July at Deer Park, Harrell set a 6.95 track record. - Ron Howard

Notes: 6.19 at Santa Pod's "World Finals" is considered a little quick for a Euro FC in 1979. however, at that same race, Gene Snow & Raymond Beadle ran a famous 6.00 to 6.04 run. Hasselstrom was usually "really close if not right there" in performance.

Notes: Photo taken at the 1974 NHRA U.S. Nationals, Indianapolis Raceway Park. Pat Foster (#740) was the driver at Indy even though John Lombardo's competition number (#735) is painted on the car. Pat qualified at 6.48-215.82 and won in the first round but lost to Don Schumacher in the second. Also ran 6.31 at Atco, 6.46 at Pomona, and 6.50 at Ontario. | Pat was at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals driving for Lombardo. He qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen car show with a 6.59. In the first round he shut off to a 8.68-108.04 that lost to Gordon Mineo's 6.52-197. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, his 6.52-215.31 qualified #8 and a 6.46-211.76 beat Paul Radici in round one but in round two an oil leak developed on the line and he shut down, giving John Collins a single run into the semifinals. He failed to qualify at the Bakersfield March Meet. Foster was at Fremont for the AHRA Northern Nationals but he smoked the tires and lost to Twig Zeigler. On April 6 he was at OCIR for the AHRA Grand American. Unfortunately, in round one Pat was a little slow off the line and his 6.66-215.82 lost to Jim Nicoll's 6.71-211.

Notes: Photo from Martin, MI, 1983. Al didn't start the season the way he would have liked as he failed to qualify at the NHRA Winternationals. At the NHRA Gatornationals, he qualified #11 with a 5.98-239.36 but lost to John Force in the first round. Atlanta held an eight car show near the end of March and Al qualified #1 with a 5.95 (low ET) at 237.46. A 6.03-233 in the first round beat Ron Correnti and he got past the semifinals to meet Mark Oswald in the "Candies and Hughes" car for the title. Al got the victory. He was back at Atlanta on April 17 for the NHRA Southern Nationals. It was another eight car show and Segrini qualified #7 with a 5.96-243.90. He made his way into the final where he was to face Frank Hawley in the "Chi-Town Hustler." Al ran a good 6.07-214.28 but he lost to Hawley's better 5.99-240.

Notes: Mike attempted to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals but his best of 6.59-233.16 failed to make the show. He won the Bakersfield March Meet, setting low ET in the first round while beating his dad with a 6.00-240.64 to Jim's 6.19-241. In the final he beat Henry Harrison with a 6.04. At the NHRA Gatornationals, he qualified #7 with a 5.93-245.90. A 5.87-247.25 beat Billy Meyer in the first round and he advanced into the semifinals when John Force fouled against him in round two. But in his semifinal race, Mike's 6.06-233.76 lost to Frank Hawley's 5.94-240 in the "Chi-Town Hustler." In April, the "Hawaiian" team was at OCIR for its 64 FC race. Unfortunately, Mike's 6.05-243.24 lost to Tripp Shumake's 5.93-233 in Joe Pisano's car in the first round. He failed to qualify for the eight car field at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals.

Notes: Won 1980 Cajuns over Paul Smith. | Meyer qualified #7 at the NHRA Winternationals with a 6.11-233.32 but failed to make the finals. Baton Rouge hosted the Division Four Opener on March 9 and there finished runner-up to Raymond Beadle in a close 6.24-233 to 6.27-230.17 final. The following week (March 16) at Gainesville for the Gatornationals he qualified #6 with a 6.09 but crossed the centerline in the first round and was disqualified. He was runner-up again in April at the Division Two Opener at Warner Robins when he broke in the final after setting Low ET at 6.21. At the fifth annual Cajun Nationals, Billy qualified #2 in the eight car show with a 6.08. He beat Henry Harrison in the first round with a 6.51-227 and in the semifinal a 6.32-226 beat Tripp Shumake. In the final he beat Paul Smith with a 6.66-215.31 for the victory. Meyer continued to run well, posting another victory on May 18 at Bristol in the IHRA Springnationals. There he qualified #5 and met low qualifier Beadle in the first round. A 6.13-239.36 (Top Speed), dispatched the "Blue Max's" smoky run. In the semifinals, a 6.44 beat Kenny Bernstein's 6.59. In the final, he met and beat Roy Harris' 6.53-226 with a 6.20-234.37. Things looked good for Billy heading into the NHRA Springnationals on June 8. A 6.18-226.70 qualified #5 and a first round 6.09 beat Bob Pickett. In the second round he got a single when Don Prudhomme was shut off with an oil leak on the line. Unfortunately, in the semifinal, Meyer's reverser locked up after his burnout and he could only watch as Beadle singled into the final. He qualified first with a 6.23-238.09 (Top Speed) at the NHRA Mile High Nationals. A first round 6.35-225.56 beat Roy Harris' 6.66-198. In the semifinal, Beadle's 6.20-231 beat his 6.29-201.79. The Summernationals at Englishtown was the next national event on the NHRA schedule and Meyer qualified #4 with a 6.04. He made his way to the final to meet with Prudhomme. In the final an off pace 6.58-192.71 gave him a runner-up spot to Don's 6.10-238. A week later (July 20), he was back in the winners circle at Milan Dragway for the IHRA Northern National. At first things didn't look so good when he only qualified #7 in the eight car field. But he beat Paul Smith in the first round and a surprisingly strong Len Imbrogno in the semifinals before meeting Dick Rosberg in the final. His final round 6.12-227.27 beat Rosberg's right there 6.12-230. He was back at Bristol on Aug 3 for the IHRA Summernationals and hoping for a sweep at Bristol after winning the Springnationals earlier in the year. Billy qualified low with a 6.20 (Low ET) at 221.67. He beat Al Baldwin in the first round with a 6.26-224.43 and a 6.21-231.95 in the semi's took out Roy Harris. In the final, a 6.65-227.27 was a tenth off of Paul Smith's winning 6.55-221 in Larry Coogle's "Sting." On Aug 17, Meyer got another runner-up finish at the Division Three race at Beech Bend. A first round 6.26-235.60 beat Ron Colson's quicker 6.17-236 in the "Hawaiian." In the semifinals, his 6.14-204.54 beat Beadle's 6.20-235 to move into the finals against Dale Armstrong. Meyer ran a strong 6.20-238.72 (top speed), but finished second best to Armstrong's 6.16-236. He was at the PHR Championships but after winning his first round race with a 6.12 he lost in the semifinal to Gary Burgin. Meyer skipped running the NHRA Grandnationals in Canada, but he was at Indy for the U.S. Nationals. He qualified #6 with a 6.04-236.84 and in round one, his 6.13-229.00 beat Armstrong's 6.39-220. In round two, a 6.18-234.37 got around Prudhomme's 6.27-226. In the semifinals, a tire shaking 6.46-188 lost to upstart Tom Ridings in Joe Pisano's Arrow at 6.12-236. He continued to run well in IHRA competition as well, qualifying first with a 6.12-217.91 at Rockingham for the U.S. Open. Dale Pulde did beat him in the first round however and Meyer went on to Seattle for the NHRA Fallnationals. A 6.21 qualified #6 and he lasted until the semifinal when Beadle beat him with a 6.01. The same song and dance happened at the season ending NHRA World Finals when Meyer was beaten again by Beadle in the semifinals, this time Raymond's 6.11 beat Meyer's off pace 6.88. In NHRA's season long points chase, Meyer finished second to Beadle. -- RH

Notes: Burgin run 6.313-203.61 and 6.47-184.42 in winning the Funny Car Race of Champions at Englishtown, NJ, in August 1975. He had won Division 7 in 1974. -- RT | Photo taken at Indy, 1975. -- MS | Ran 6.31-228.42 at Indy U.S. Nationals 9/75. | Gary was running hard in '75. It was a good lead up to his great '76 season. He started the '75 season at the Irwindale Grand Premiere where he qualified #5 in the sixteen car show. He lost in the first round. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, a 6.44 qualified #14. A first round 6.40-205.47 beat Neil Leffler but unfortunately, he had crossed the centerline and was disqualified. He ran at the Bakersfield March Meet but had the misfortune of breaking in the first round against Don Prudhomme. At the Gatornationals, Gary ran 6.42 to qualify #3. He beat Gordon Mineo in the first round but lost to Shirl Greer in round two. He got a runner-up finish to Jake Johnston in the Pisano and Matsubara Vega at the Irwindale Fox Hunt race in May. At the NHRA Springnationals, he qualified #6 with a 6.50-215.82. A first round 6.54-211.76 beat Al Segrini's 6.68-201 in the "Black Magic" Vega. But in round two, his 6.58-221.13 lost to Ed McCulloch's 6.45-205. He had an interesting outing at the first NHRA Division Seven race at Sacramento. He soloed in the first round, setting Low ET at 6.55-211.77. In the semifinals, he got another single when Jim Dunn's Satellite broke. In the final he met went up against Roger Garten. It wasn't much of a race as Burgin had an oil fire on the line and shut off and Garten grabbed the win. On July 13 he was at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals where he qualified #2 with a 6.29-222.22. He advanced past a broken Bill Leavitt in the first round with a 6.54-204.80. In round two, he smoked the tires and lost to McCulloch. He took a win at the WCS race at Bison Dragways in Manitoba. He set Low ET and Top Speed at 6.69-222.22 and in the final beat Topper Kramer's 7.06-184 with a 6.73-222.22. At the NHRA Grandnationals, Gary didn't run as well as he would have liked. It was an eight car show and he qualified #5 putting him in a first round match with low qualifier Prudhomme. Gary's off pace 6.75 lost to the "Snake's" 6.47.

Notes: Photo from Pop Rod 82. Got Miller Sponsorship late in year, kept gold-orange colors, went to "Warrior" name due to competitor brewery's eagle on its logo. | Pulde started the season at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified #5 with a 6.04-240.64. Both he and opponent Mike Dunn had problems in their first round race and Mike's 7.48-225 beat Dale's 7.66-110.11. Surprisingly, Pulde failed to qualify for the eight car field at Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet. At the NHRA Gatornationals, he again qualified #5, this time with a 6.07-238.09. An off pace 6.43-224.43 lost to Paul Smith's 6.31-233 in the first round. Things went more Dale's way the following week (March 21) at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. There, he qualified for the eight car show and went on to beat John Pott in the final with a 6.26-238.09 (top speed). Another win came in April at an eight car show in Atlanta. There, he set low ET in the final with a 5.99 to beat Bobby Hilton in the "Custom Body" Omni. The next time he was in Atlanta his 6.17-226.13 failed to qualify for the eight car field at the NHRA Southern Nationals. Rockingham hosted IHRA's second event of the year, the Pro-Am Championships, on May 2. Pulde qualified for the show but in the first round against Kenny Bernstein, he had a motor let go on the line.

Notes: Lindamood failed to qualify for the NHRA Winternationals. UDRA held an eight car show at U.S. 131 Martin, Mich., on May 29, but Terry Hedrick's 7.63-191 beat Roger's 7.89-189 in the first round. He finished runner-up to Dick Loehr at the AHRA Grand Nationals at Detroit Dragway. On June 8, he ran at Epping for the New England FC Championships. Lindamood set Top Speed in the first round with a 7.61-199.10 victory over Mel Perry. In the second round, a 7.86-164 beat Joe Black. Unfortunately the Charger came up ailing in the semifinal against Jim Liberman. An 11.37 was no match for JJ's 7.95. On July 6 at Milan, Mich., Lindamood faced Loehr in a match race. He set a 7.41 track record at 200.44 in the first race over Loehr's 7.71-190. In the second race, Roger tossed a blower belt and lost. The third and deciding race was never run because of rain so the match was declared a draw. The UDRA held an FC race in Gary, Indiana, on August 20. Lindamood went into the race as the track record holder at 7.37 but Gary Dyer reset it to a 7.33 in the first round. The two met in the semifinals and Dyer's 7.80 beat Lindamood's quicker 7.67. Late in August, Detroit Dragway held an eight car FC race where all cars would run three races and the winner would be decided by who won the most rounds. Roger set Top Speed at 197 and won all three of his races with a best of 7.49-197 coming in the third race against Bill Lawton's 7.79-181. He tied for overall honors with Larry Reyes, who had also won all three of his races. On August 30, U.S. 131 Martin, Mich., held an eight car show. Roger ran a first round 7.64-198.66 over Arnie Behling's 7.86-184, but a blown transmission in the semifinal against Gary Bolger took away any chance of victory. The next day (August 31), he raced at another eight car show, this time in Minneapolis. An 8.33-195.22 lost to Bryan Teal's 8.35-151 in the first round, but a stroke of good luck came his way in the form of Behling breaking a crankshaft in his first round win. As Low ET loser in the first round, he was reinstated and raced against Teal again in the semifinals. This time Roger's 7.40-200 advanced over Teal into the finals. There he faced Pat Minick but another blown trans gave him the runner-up purse. The next day (Sept 1), they did it again at Minneapolis and Roger was upset in the first round by a 7.87-185 from Della Woods. To be fair, he did have more transmission problems during their race. Another runner-up finish came on Sept 7 at the Memphis FC 500. He broke in the first round against Jack Chrisman but again got back in on the break rule. He faced Chrisman again in the second round and beat him with a 7.44 track record. In the final he met former track record holder (7.54), Bobby Woods. It was a close race with Woods' 7.45 beating Lindamood's 7.50. At the New England FC Championships at Epping on Sept 21, Roger's first round 7.33-198 beat Tom Grove's track record 7.30. In the semifinals he lined up against Jim Liberman but after his burnout, he lost a rear wheel giving Liberman a solo. - Ron Howard | Also ran a confirmed 7.41 at Milan. - DW

Notes: Strongest Chevy-powered Funny of '69. Ran a 7.60-191.88 at Englishtown in March. Set a 187.50 Maple Grove track record. On April 13, Larson faced Frank Oglesby for a match race at Cecil County. Bruce's 7.79-191.48 won the first race of the match when Frank's Cougar broke. Bruce made a second round single to win the match when the Cougar couldn't be repaired in time. Another match race was run in April at U.S. 131, Martin, Mich, against Ed Schartman. A first round 8.29-187.88 beat Ed's 8.42-172.41. In the second round, Larson had transmission problems and Ed's 8.37-173.41 won. In the third round, Larson won to take the match. In May, he raced at Capitol's Mr. Chevrolet Invitational but he fouled against Mel Perry in the first round. On May 25, he raced Schartman's second car driven by Arnie Behling at Suffolk for a match race, Larson beat Arnie two straight with runs of 7.80-154.10 and 7.56-180.00 to win the match. Bruce cracked off the 7.33 at Budds Creek, Maryland, in June. Still in June, he returned to Maple Grove for another match race with Schartman. This time, he beat Ed three straight with a best of 7.69-187.88 for the track speed record. On June 8 he ran at the New England FC Championships where a first round single (7.98) advanced when Pete Gates lost fire on the line. In the second round, Jim Liberman's 7.61-190 beat his off pace 8.22-189. Another match race against Schartman was run at York U.S. 30 on June 21. A big holeshot by Ed in the first race gave the Cougar a 7.86-182 win over Larson's quicker, 7.62. Bruce lost fire on the line so Ed raced the backup car of Al Graber and won giving him the match race win, but Larson wanted a final attempt at a win so they lined up for a final race. Sure enough, Larson got out of shape and Ed's 7.95-180 gave him a three straight victory. Bruce did much better the following week on June 28 at Budds Creek, Maryland, where he beat Charlie Allen two straight. At Capitol's King of King's FC race on July 16, Roy Gay's 8.03-179.28 beat his out-of-shape 8.11-180.72 in the first round. At the Cars Magazine FC Nationals on July 20, a first round 7.61-189.46 beat Ron Rivero (7.72-190.66) but in the second frame, Lew Arrington's 7.50-192 beat Bruce's 7.77-171.16. A big win came at Sunset Dragway's Fifth annual FC Championships, where he set a 5.09 one-eighth mile track record before beating Schartman in the final of the ten car field. A match race against Jim Liberman was run on Aug 2 at York U.S. 30 where Jim beat him two straight with two 7.56's at 191. Bruce's best was a 7.65-189. At the U.S. Nationals, he was the top qualified Chevy with a 7.43-195.22 (sixth). A first round 7.43-194.38 advanced when Schartman fouled and a second round 7.35 got past Don Schumacher who lost a trans. It the semis he fouled away a 7.48 but Danny Ongais' 7.27 would've been hard to beat. On Sept 21 at Epping for the New England FC Championships, Paul Stefansky's 7.70-175 beat him in round two. Bruce had lost third gear. On Oct 26, he won at Connecticut over an eight-car field, setting a 7.42 track record. He ran 7.42-194.38 and 7.50-196.50 before beating the Super 'Cuda in the final with a 7.48-196.50. - Ron Howard
