Notes: Real Style Camaro, Left Hand Drive, Vinyl Top. Dick ran 7.83 at 184.80 at the 1968 All American Funny Car Championships in Bristol. We need to confirm that those times were run in this car and not the Courtesy Chevrolet car (that I think ran this year, too). Former times listed for the Yenko car in 1968 were 7.945 at 171.80. |

Notes: At the Bakersfield March Meet, he failed to qualify, but got in as an alternate when Fred Goeske broke. A first-round 9.06/165 lost to Rich Siroonian's 8.50/181. He ran an eight-car show at Lions on March 22. An 8.08 qualified seventh in the field, which was good considering 14 other cars failed to qualify. But once again, an off pace 9.35/129.68 lost in the first round, to Steve Bovan's 8.14/172. On April 13, an 8.17 qualified last at an eight-car show at Irwindale. An off pace 9.20/142.18 lost to Steve Bovan's 8.12/181 in the first round. Leroy lost to Johnny Wright in the first round, at an eight-car show at Irwindale on May 30. He ran an 8.06 in qualify #12 at OCIR on May 31 for the Funny Car 500. An 8.45/184.42 beat a crossed up Mike Van Sant in the first round, but a 7.81/187 by Randy Walls beat his 8.33/184.04 in round two. On June 28, Leroy ran 7.94 to qualify #4 at an eight-car show at Lions. He was upset by alternate Bob Walker's 8.35/177 in the first round, that beat his quicker 8.16/181.81. He just made the field on July 5 at OCIR's Nitro Championships, qualifying #15. Gas Ronda put him out in the first round, with an 8.07/186 that beat the New Breed's 8.58/184.80. The following week, on July 12, he broke while doing his burnout for the first-round at Irwindale's Race with a Reason. On August 16, he raced at a sixteen-car show at Irwindale. He ran a great 7.80/178.92 in the first round, but Frank Pisano ran an ever better 7.65/187 in the other lane to beat him. |

Notes: Lindamood's '66 car had weighed 2,500 lbs. His '66 car still used a steel body, while this new Charger used a fiberglass body to help lighten the load. Another difference was how far back the engine now sat in the chassis. The old car had the engine moved back 12 inches, while his new car had it sitting back 24" for better weight transfer. Roger was at Fontana on January 7 for an eight-car show. While he and 34 others failed to qualify, he still got Top Speed of the meet with a 182.18. He was at Detroit Dragway on March 12 for a best-of-three-match race against Hubert Platt's Mustang. It was not a good outing for Lindamood as he lost two straight. On May 10, Lindamood split the winnings with Dave Strickler at the Cecil County Factory Showdown. He had beaten Bill Lawton in the first round with an 8.70/166.35. In round two, an 8.41 beat Jack Chrisman's quicker 8.32, but this was the race that had Arnie Beswick's car roll through the guardrail and catch fire in the first round, and in round two, Don Nicholson's Comet had gotten airborne, and the body ripped from the frame. The chassis with Don along for the ride ended up in a marsh that ran alongside the track. Don and Arnie were both OK, but it was too late (12:45) to run the final round due to the lengthy cleanups, and Strickler and Lindamood split the purse. Roger was at Aquasco for a ten-car show on May 21. In the first round, he fouled away an 8.78/167.91 against Chrisman's 8.72/155. Roger was at Gary, Indiana's US 30, on May 28 for the UDRA Championships. This race ran only fuel-burning injected cars. Lindamood set Low ET at 8.33, but he lost after winning his first round with an 8.76/166.97. He ran well at an eight-car show at Martin, Mich on July 1. He fouled away an 8.56/167 in the first round against Lew Arrington's "Brutus," but the Pontiac crossed the centerline, and Roger was back in the show. He beat a somehow reinstated "Brutus" again in the semifinals to apparently make the final against "Dyno" Don. But rain interrupted the proceedings, and due to his Low ET (8.15), Nicholson was awarded the win. On July 9, Roger ran a best two out of three at Salem against Kelly Chadwick. The Charger won two straight with times of 8.83/172 and 8.84/169. Roger won the UDRA race at Alton on July 19, where he also set Low ET at 8.26. Shortly after that (July 22), he was at Cecil for a four-car show. He cut a great light in the first race, and his 8.19/172.41 beat "Fast Eddie" Schartman's 8.09/170. In his second race, Nicholson gated him, and his 8.15/176.81 lost to "Dyno's" slower 8.18/171. There were no other races run. Roger also won the UDRA Circuit race at New York Nationals. He was running 8.2's at 173 and defeated Pete Gates' Comet in the final. We listed initially at 8.34/178.57. We replaced those times with OCIR Mfg. Meet times of 8.15/184.42 at OCIR on 11/25/67. Was it the same car? Jay Howell frame, late hemi, TorqueFlite. The car was advertised for sale in very early '67. Was it still injected or blown at this point? It would determine A/XS or S/XS. The motor was set back 18 inches, so he sat beside the engine. Also had a push-button selector mounted by the seat for the Torqueflite transmission. It also had a VW front Axle. It was powered by a fuel-injected 427 Chevy and a Chrysler 8.75 rear end. |

Notes: Listed times from Drag Stat 1969. Ken raced at Seattle on April 27, when they pitted four FC's against four AA/GD's. Ken's 8.81/176.41 lost his first race to Dave Grassi's 7.53/198.76. A much improved 8.10/180.80 beat Don Cope's dragster in his second race. On August 10, he ran at the Woodburn Funny Car Festival. A first-round 8.61/174.08 beat Warren Gunter's bug, but an 8.06 by Gas Ronda in the semifinal put him on the trailer. |

Notes: Gervase O'Neill was originally from Canada before moving to California. His brother Johnny, who opened up Johnny's Tune-Up in Gardena, California, was his tuner. After racing a Chevelle and a Corvette, a new Camaro was built in 1972, complete with Chevrolet cast iron Rat Power. The "King Rat" Camaro was a regular at Southern California match races until 1977. The Camaro eventually ran a best of 6.67 with pure Chevy power. Only a couple of racers went faster with a Chevy. Gervase might not have been a big winner or as well known as other Chevy racers, but he goes down in history as one of the quickest fuel Chevy racers ever. Gervase was at OCIR on March 24 for the final All-Pro race. The final featured sixteen-car fields and he qualified #14 with a 7.36. In the opening round of eliminations, his 7.53/133.13 fell to Dave Beebe's 6.96/206 in the "Mr. Ed" Satellite. O'Neill was at OCIR for its Hang Ten Funny Car 500 race on May 26. It was a sixteen-car show, and his 6.99 qualified #8. In the first round, his 6.90/184.42 beat Rick Ramsey's 7.20/195 in the "Keeling and Clayton" car. But a troubled 21.11/64.05 in round two lost to John Collins' 7.82/171. Gervase was back at OCIR in June for its Lions Championships. It was an eight-car field, and O'Neill qualified on the "bump" with a 7.28. He improved to 7.21 at 166.05 in the opening round of eliminations, but lost to Roger Garten's 6.80/225 in the "War Horse." |

Notes: Photo from the 1974 NHRA Springnationals, National Trail Raceway, Columbus, Ohio. | Larry wasn't running nearly as well in '75 as he had in previous years. He failed to qualify at the NHRA Gatornationals. Fullerton did run well at a best of three match race against Tom McEwen in May. It was an 1/8 mile track and Larry won all three of the races with runs of 4.25, 4.65, and a solo 5.06 when McEwen broke. Shortly after that, he was at Dragway 42 for the AHRA Grandnationals where he qualified #6 in the sixteen-car field. An opening round 7.67 advanced when Jackie Price's Vega broke on the line, but he failed to fire for his round two match against Jim Nicoll. Larry was at Connecticut for the Memorial Day Funny Car Championships. It was an eight-car show with all the cars making three runs. A crossed-up 8.38 in his first race lost to Jimmy King's 6.76. In the second race, Fullerton’s 7.12/209.79 lost to Don Johnson's new Monza at 6.98/194. In the last race, Harlan Thompson's "Fireball Vega" broke so Larry was to get a solo run. After losing two races this was an easy win, but no such luck. Larry blew the engine on his 7.07 single. It was not a good weekend. He failed to qualify at the NHRA Springnationals. His next stop as at Tri City for the seventh annual Manufacturer's Championships. It was an eight-car show with all cars making three passes. Ron O'Donnell's 6.83/204 beat his 6.99/181.08 in his first race. Larry got a win in his second race with a 7.00/184.42 beating a tire-smoking Norm Wilcox in the "Hawaiian,” and in his third race, he beat a crossed-up Tom Hoover with a 6.96/198.67. As shown by his numbers, the "Trojan Horse" was falling behind the competition. In the middle of June, he was at Byron for their Manufacturer's Meet. Twelve cars ran the first-round with the lowest eight ET's going into round two. Larry won his opening round race with a 7.19/198 when Kenny Safford crossed the centerline in the "Mr. Norm" car, but his ET failed to advance him into round two. This once feared car was not feared by many anymore, and it got worse. In July Fullerton was up in Canada at Cayuga Dragway for the Gold Cup Championships. The format was 14 cars making three runs with the two Low ET cars meeting in the final. Fullerton won his first two races with a 6.96/156.52 over Al Segrini who shut off and his 6.86/172.74 beat Pee Wee Wallace in round two, but the car broke and was unable to run the third race. The Mustang II came to an end at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals during Friday's qualifying. The car went to a huge fireball that totaled the body and did major damage to the chassis and running gear. Luckily, Larry received only minor burns. He was out of commission for a while, but he was back in the saddle at Maryland International on August 16 with his old '73 Mustang for the fourth NHRA Division 1 race. He finished runner-up to Don Prudhomme there. He competed at New England Dragway for the Epping Grand Am, but he lost to eventual winner Al Segrini in the first round. Near the end of the season, Larry was runner-up to Ron Jackson at the Suffolk Little Guy Open and he got a win over Tom Anderson at the Southeast National Open at Warner Robins. |

Notes: Snow was at Green Valley Raceway on February 18 for a best of three match race against Don Gay's Pontiac. Gene's Dart broke in the first race, and Gay's GTO broke in the second. Gene won the final race with an 8.87 to win the match. Gene was in the Dart on June 22 for a match race at Austin, Texas against Gay. Don had a rod let go in their first race, and he was out of competition. At the same time, Ron Leslie also had a match race there against Mike Burkhart. Mike lost his trans in the first race, so Snow and Leslie became a match. In the first race, Leslie won with an 8.12/181 when Gene fouled away an 8.23/174.75. In the second race, an 8.04/178.21 lost to the quicker-leaving Leslie at 8.07/177. The following day (June 23), Snow was at Amarillo for a best of three against Kelly Chadwick. The Camaro's transmission failed in the first two races, and Snow won easily. The roles reversed in the last race as Gene's transmission blew. He then went to Oklahoma City for its Funny Car Championships on July 4. It was an eight-car show, and in round one, his 8.16/184.07 beat Paul Stefansky's 8.30/175. He lost to Mike Burkhart in the semifinal. | Scary first blown fuel car. Was the 7.65 at San Antonio in the Dart or Charger? - Danny White |

Notes: B&N '68 Mustang fiberglass body on a 124" Racing Enterprises (of Lansing, Michigan) chassis. Stock displacement 392 hemi, TorqueFlite trans by Art Carr. Car was subject of cover feature in 3/68 SS&DI and also a 6-page feature in 4/68 Drag Strip. Said to have been completed in 90 days. Probably debuted late in season. - RT | Dick Loehr was one of many funny car drivers based out of Michigan. An engineer by trade, Dick used his job connections to get sponsorship and assistance for his racing operations. In 1967, Loehr had a new Mustang funny car built. The Max Curtis Ford "Stampede" was much lower than most of its competition. That car debuted with a 427 SOHC engine, which later was replaced by a reliable 392 Chrysler Hemi. Loehr ran a best of 7.86 at 189.70 with the car at Orange County. The car was replaced a by new, lighter Mustang in 1969. Dick Loehr eventually left funny cars for Pro Stockers. - BS | Confirmed 7.95 and 8.08 at the OCIR Manufacturer's Meet on 11/25/67. - BM |

Notes: Mulligan got AA/FC upgrade in this car at Lions in October 1968. Schwartz drove this car at the '69 NHRA Springnationals in Dallas and died when Pat Foster in Mickey Thompson's Mustang T-boned the Cougar. In 1968, it was reported that when Maynard Rupp left the Cougar Country car, Roy Steffey was joining with Schwartz and Pepper Meihart on the Cougar. Steffey was a big dollar guy and would have made a big impact. |

Notes: Al Graeber ran his own chassis shop, Speedway Engineering. His shop built the 120" chassis as well as all the tinwork on Graeber's new Charger. The engine was a 426 Hemi that used a 1/4" stroker crank from C&T. The Cragar-driven GMC 6/71 used a Hilborn injection unit. A TorqueFlite transmission delivered the power to the rear. The Charger 500 body was a product of Fiberglass Ltd. Al was at Maple Grove on April 27 for a best of three match race against Frank Federici and his "Shark" Corvette. It was not Graeber's day as he lost three straight with an 8.30/174.41 best. Flip roof, removable front. Also ran 7.72 at York. |

Notes: With Art Ward at the wheel, the team qualified no. 1 for Super Eliminator at '68 NHRA World Finals in Tulsa with a 7.58. We need confirmation of whether John Dekker drove the car in 1968, need the ET, and need confirmation of the 184.04 speed. | Roger Guzman's new Corvair featured a 124" wheelbase chassis built by Seyfer. It was not a lightweight, weighing in at 2,100 lbs. The engine was a 427 Chevy bored and stroked with a Crankshaft Company crank to 497 cubic inches. The engine used a Howards cam. A B&M TorqueFlite transmission was used. |

Notes: Unusual Dart had a hemi in the back seat. Took the Unlimited Fuel crown at the '67 AHRA Springnationals in Odessa, TX, besting Al Vanderwoude's Flying Dutchman Dart in the final round with 8.95 in Spring '67. - RT | Most of us who hear the name Eddie Pauling associate him with Johnny Loper's cars. But way back when, Pauling drove this Dart. The car was built on a square tube chassis. The front end, doors, and trunk lid were fiberglass, but what remained of the body was steel. The front end was extended about 10 inches. A TorqueFlite transmission backed the rear-mounted early Hemi. On May 20, Pauling was at Phoenix for a best of three match race against Gas Ronda's SOHC Mustang. Eddie's 9.12/161.57 won the first race over Ronda's 9.16/148. But Gas evened up the score by running 8.92/163 to win their second race over the Dart's 9.00/163.04. Gas wrapped up the match by running 9.00 to beat Paulings' 9.10/161 in the final race. Pauling was at Irwindale on June 17 for an eight-car show. In the first round, his 8.76/170.45 lost to Dee Keaton's slower 8.85/161. |

Notes: Jerry's first Funny Car. Former Howie Neal 'Strip Teaser.' Neal ran the car in 1967, Caminito injected in 68, then blown in 68 and blown all 1969. | Caminito started the season at Miami-Hollywood on January 5 for a six-car show. Two cars bailed, and it became just a four-car affair, and in the first race, the Comet blew a transmission while racing Bruce Neff in the "Stroker" Camaro. Jerry qualified third with an 8.14 on February 16 at Miami's Winter Championships. He beat Tom Donahue in the first round, but had his blower explode, wrecking his Comet body. Jerry ran at Bristol on June 8 for the AHRA Springnationals, but he lost to Ronnie Runyan in the first round. He also competed at the third annual New Jersey State Championships on August 10 but fouled in the first round, running 8.99/147. On August 24, he met Bruce Neff at Dragway 42, West Salem, for a best of three match race. In the first race, he got out of shape on an 8.58/165.74 pass that lost to Neff's 8.35/178.21. In the second race, he fouled away an 8.33/178.02 that lost to Neff's nearly identical 8.35/178.21 (they checked the clocks). In the final race, Jerry's 8.33/169.49 beat the Camaro's 8.54/163. |

Notes: Dale Pulde might have only been a teenager when he began racing funny cars, but he was a very capable teenager. Some say Pulde was and is the best driver ever. The Charlie Wilson owned "Vicious Too" 1967 Camaro was Dale's second funny car ride. The flip top Camaro replaced the mean "Vicious Vette." Vicious Too was a mid pack runner with Pulde driving, usually hitting the mid to low eights. The car was powered by a 427 Chevrolet Rat engine backed a B&M automatic transmission. Cragar sponsored the Camaro, and the car ran the heavy Cragar S/ST wheels instead of the standard Halibrands of the day. Pulde drove the car in 1968 and 1969, running a best of 7.91 at 184. (Photo courtesy Bob Plumer and Drag Race Memories. Stats provided by Dennis Doubleday. Info from Bill Duke, and James Ibusuki). | Early in the year (February 2), Pulde was at Lions to break in a new engine for the Camaro. Unfortunately, he lost his transmission on the line on his first run. Dale attempted to qualify at Lions on March 22. But with 22 cars trying to make the eight-car field, he failed to make the show. |

Notes: For 1968, Gates got a 1968 Cougar with a new Logghe chassis. Pete ran the Gate Job Cougar into 1969, then hung up his driving gloves. Text provided by Daryl Huffman. | Listed times from Drag Stat 1969. | At the Gainesville season opener on February 16, Gates won the race over a field that included Gene Snow, Shirl Greer, and Sam Miller. In May, Miami-Hollywood hosted an Funny Car race where Pete got into the final but lost a motor while running Pat Minick for the title. The fire gave him slight burns, but otherwise, he was OK. He beat Frank Federici's "Shark" at New England for a best-of-three-match race on May 18. He won two of the three races with a best of 8.05. On June 8, he raced at Epping for the New England Funny Car Championships, but while facing Bruce Larson in the first round, the car lost fire, allowing Larson a single. Pete ran a 7.80 at Martin, Michigan, at the PHR meet. He lost in round one, to Fred Goeske. On August 30, he was back at US 131 Martin, Mich., for an eight-car show, but his off pace 8.71/138.03 lost to Minick's track records of 7.13/205.46. He got back in on the break rule but fouled against Bryan Teal in the semis. The next day (August 31), he raced at an eight-car show at Minneapolis, but again he lost in the first round, where his 8.30/153.58 lost to Larry Christopherson's 7.75/166 Nova. They raced again the next day (September 1) at Minneapolis, but again he lost in the first round. This time, Minick's 7.35/203.60 got him. Pete shut down to a 9.20/120.64. MPH from (Drag Stat 1969) |

Notes: NHRA outlawed these topless Corvettes. That didn't keep them from running non-NHRA sanctioned events. Wright was at Lions on August 22 for an eight-car show. He failed to qualify but came out for a consolation race against Leroy Hales in the "Wild Breed." It wasn't much of a race between the two as Wright shut down to a 9.82 that lost to Hales' 7.43. The following week (August 29), he was at OCIR for another eight-car show. Once again, he failed to qualify, but he got in as an alternate. Unfortunately, he lost to Don Schumacher's 6.93/210 in the opening round. Johnny qualified for the eight-car field at Irwindale on September 12. In the opening round, his 8.15/183.66 fell to Frank Rupert's 7.97/153. Mike Gagnon information. |

Notes: Car was campaigned throughout the 1970 season. Team burned the body off at Rockford, IL, and replaced the body with a Camaro to finish the season. Solano & Van Sant Invader Cuda was a different car. | This car came to an end, as mentioned, at the Rockford Manufacturer's Meet. All cars at the meet were to make three runs with the two quickest cars meeting in the final. Gary had been running strong as in the first race he fouled against Don Schumacher's 7.73, but the Corvette still ran 7.53. In the second race, he lost to Sidney Foster's holeshot aided 7.57 with a 7.49. The third race was the unfortunate one. Gary ran a 7.28 to beat a fouling Pat Minick in the "Chi-Town Hustler", but in the lights something blew as the car turned into an instant inferno. Scow got the car stopped and every fire extinguisher in the area was used up battling the blaze. The "Invader's" Corvette body was destroyed, but the chassis was salvageable. Gary was OK and his run ended the race as no more runs could be made as there was no fire equipment left at the track! |
