Notes: Third Woody Gilmore car. Photo taken at the 1973 NHRA US Nationals, Indianapolis Raceway Park. Confirmed 6.47 at 221 for this car in 1973. | We ran back to back 6.30s at 235 at Englishtown 73, match racing Jungle Jim. This was just the 426 Ramchargers motor, not the 475 inch Ed Pink stroker. We could not make that bigger motor run as well as the smaller Rams motor, although the Snake, Ray Beadle, Pat Foster, and others had luck with it. We had two Ed Pink motors, but ran a tenth and a half slower than the 426. We ran high 6.30s at NY National. We ran 6.39 at Detroit. Then the Ramchargers came out and ran 6.38 to get the track record back. Then we came out and ran 6.36 to take it back again. I stopped racing at the end of 1973. I had developed some ulcer problems and that ended my deal. Too much living out a suitcase and not eating right, etc. Had a chance to race for Mazmanian a year later when Danny Ongais went Indycar racing, but was having too much fun with my young son and stayed out. Ended up driving display rigs for Mr. Gasket and Bob Glidden, but that was as close as I got to the action again. - Dwane Ong, Racin & Rockin with Draglist.com radio show, 6-08-15

Notes: Tom was on top of his game in`68 his best time of 7.52 set early in the year would`ve been a lot lower if the car had not been totaled in a crash at Virginia Beach, the same place he had run his top speed of 202 in May. He finished out the season with his `67 car. - Ron Howard

Notes: By the time Larry Reyes began driving the "Hawaiian" in 1969, he was a true funny car standout. Reyes had driven the "Super Cuda" Barracuda, the "King Fish" Barracuda, Larry Coleman's Coronet, Phil Bonner's "Daddy Warbucks, " and his own Barracuda. Reyes became the first of many funny car drivers for Roland Leong, who jumped on the funny car bandwagon after having success in dragsters with such drivers as Don Prudhomme, Mike Snively, Mike Sorokin, and Danny Ongais. Leong had a Logghe built Stage II chassis with a full size Ron Pellegrini built Charger body and Keith Black built the engine. The car literally flew at Pomona, signaling the end of the full size funny car. Leong debuted a new mini Charger shortly thereafter. The new "Hawaiian" won all three races it entered the first weekend with Reyes driving. Reyes drove the car to a reported best of 7.35 at 208.31 by the end of 1969. Larry left Leong and later drove for Candies and Hughes, Prock and Howell, and the last "Super Cuda." Reyes suffered an accident at the wheel of the "Super Cuda" that left him in a wheelchair. Larry returned to race 20 years later in Super Gas. Leong went on to race and tune funny cars for the next 25 years with a seemingly endless list of drivers. Notes: The "Super Cuda" was one of several funny cars from the Memphis area in the sixties. Pat Collins built the car in 1968 and teamed up with Bill Taylor to race the beautiful candy apple red Plymouth. The Coleman and Taylor team had raced the "Kingfish" funny car. Coleman sold the car and name to TB Smallwood after the 1968 season. The "Super Cuda" proved to be just as good as the old car. Logghe Stamping Company built the chassis and the car was powered by a 426 Chrysler Hemi on 55% Nitro backed by a Coleman and Taylor built transmission, of course. Larry Reyes, Larry Arnold, and Sidney Foster all drove the "Super Cuda" to countless wins. Reyes had the best times in the car with a 7.53 at 198.46, while Arnold ran 7.76 at 193, and Foster ran 7.76 at 196.69. In 1968, Reyes won the King of Kings Race at Capitol Raceway, the AHRA Drag World Finals in Wichita, and the Super Stock Invitational in Detroit.
