Notes: Fred Goeske came to fame as the second owner of the B&M Plymouth Dealers Barracuda in late 1966. Goeske raced the heavy stock rear engine car until the end of 1967. Tom McEwen ran this car in 1965 and early 1966. February 17, 1967 (National Dragster) says this car ran '8.50s in 1966' but confirmed 8.71 at Las Vegas (per 10-14-66 National Dragster). |

Notes: The original "Kingfish" match bash funny car was one the wildest funny cars of the 1960s. Famed Memphis racer Bill Taylor built the car in 1965 with the original wheelbase, but it got a needed Extension by John Albright in 1966 to keep up with the new flip tops. The "Kingfish" Barracuda ran a 426 Chrysler Hemi on a heavy load of nitro. California racer Larry Reyes moved to Memphis just to drive the "Kingfish. " The brave driver ran a best of 8.59 at 169 with the car. The machine was retired at the end of the 1966 season to be replaced by a new flip top Barracuda. Notes: Car started its life with a 421 Pontiac punched out to 440" and running ultra-ultra-rate Mickey Thompson hemi heads before reliability dictated the switch to an early 392 Hemi. An Irwindale ad says this car ran 8.55, and the Hot Rod Yearbook #6 says the best speed was 164.97. (Need confirmation of those times, slightly better than the timeslip-derived numbers provided here. ) Liberman started 1966 in his "Hercules" Chevy II before teaming up with Lew Arrington to make his name with this car. He finished 1966 behind the wheel of his new Chevy II. Liberman did drive the GTO early in 1967, as did owner Lew Arrington. The car was sold to Don Williamson in 1968, and destroyed in a crash later that year with future altered driver Jim Trillo at the wheel. -- RT and DD |

Notes: Blown fuel. This was the car Jack ran for Sachs & Sons in 1964 with all updated sheet metal. (Started 1964 with Sachs & Sons on side). Roof was about the only thing that didn't change. July 1966 Car Craft says this car ran 'around 9.20's' in 1965. Confirmed 9.79. Need confirmation of best ET. Run by Dee Keaton in 1966, then bought back from him by Chrisman when Chrisman's 1966 Comet roadster burned to the ground. -- DD, BP |

Notes: Blown 364" (stroked 327) Chevy/hydro combo. Basically, Davis swapped the Topolino body from the Davis & Ingram BB/A for a steel Mustang coupe. Altered-style chassis with narrow rear and traverse buggy-sprung front with 12-spoke Americans contributed to unique appearance. Car received multi-page feature treatment in 10/65 issue of Cars magazine. -- RT | Run through 1966, then sold to Frank Reinauer in 1967. -- DD |

Notes: This was Doug Thorley's new 1968 Corvair, Logghe Chassis, Fiberglass Trends one-piece fliptop Corvair body, Al Bergler aluminum. I think Watson paint, Kelly lettering. This car replaced Doug's '67 Indy winner. Dick Bourgeois and Earl Wade took the car on tour during the summer of '68. On a Sunday night at Motor City Dragway, Dick ran a 7.57 for low e.t. over Lew Arrington's Brutus, Larry Reyes in the Super Cuda and Don Gay in his rainbow Firebird. In '69 the Corvair body was replaced with a Javelin body but continued with the blown 490 Chevy and ran the Coke tour. |

Notes: Mid-size, all-steel Olds F-85 ran a lightened stock Olds frame with the front wheels moved up 7" and the rear a whopping 17". 400-cube Olds was bored and stroked to 496". GMC 6-71 blower, upright 4-hole Hilborn injection, Turbo-Hydramatic 400 trans, dropped front axle, leaf springs in back, Olds rear, 3,020 pounds. Following a towing accident towards the end of the '66 season the damaged driver-side sheetmetal was replaced and the previously red car got a new coat of black paint. Car occasionally ran gas but generally ran a 25 percent load of nitro. (Note: Times quoted not necessarily the car's fastest. "1967 New Funny Cars" magazine says car ran 180+ mph, likely in 1966.) -- RT |

Notes: 1971 Woody car, replaced the heavy '70 Cuda. Qualified second at Indy 71' with a 6.59 and won the race defeating Dale Pulde with an ET of 6.64 at 223.32 mph. The win at the 1971 NHRA Nationals was the first for Ed McCulloch and was a springboard for his dominating 1972 season. The photo was taken late in 1971 at Ontario Motor Speedway during the NHRA Supernationals and shows the car shortly after signing Revell as a sponsor. |

Notes: Ran first 290 mph FC in the sport at Ennis 1991 with a 290.13 blast. Wes Cerny's 290 mph tuning skills on this car caught the attention of Kenny Bernstein, who hired him for the 1992 season, resulting in the sport's first 300 mph run. Photo from Indy 1991. |

Notes: Photo from Martin, MI 1975. Won Beech Bend WCS at 6.357, 205.47 over John Austin. Need to confirm where the 6.18 was run. I think it was Indy 75 or 76. Qualified on the bump at Indy 76 at 6.269. |

Notes: Rookie season as a fuel car.6.18, 200 shut off run at New England in October 76 was the quickest Donovan AA/FC pass in history. Reportedly never ran faster than 207.85, running quickly but shutting off to save parts. Also, a 6.32 at New England in September 76. AKA Sundance Kid. |

Notes: Although Ed McCulloch seemingly had a more successful year, Tom McEwen was named the 1972 Drag News "Funny Car Driver of the Year." Several late season successes, most notably his victories at the inaugural PRA "National Challenge 72'" and "The Last Drag Race" at Lions Drag Strip helped convince Drag News to give Tom the year end award. He ran strong all year after changing from a Ramchargers to an Ed Pink combination. Tom was also on the losing end of the quickest and fastest pass in funny car history when he lost to Pat Foster's 6.29, 234.98 blast in the first round of the NHRA Supernationals. Tom had qualified fourth at OMS with a 6.43, 225.56 and was a slight favorite when he met the Barry Setzer Vega. While Foster reset the record book Tom blew an engine, had a big fire and stopped in the middle of the track, an inauspicious end to what had been a highly anticipated race. | Also won AHRA Spring Nationals in Denver with a 6.81, 205.90. |

Notes: Car started the year injected, but the adition of a supercharger in 1967 made Durham as quick and fast as 7.98-178. Need best injected times (for other entry) and need photo with supercharger (for this entry). -- DW |
