Notes: Photo from Columbus 1989. Tom started the '89 season by qualifying #9 with a 5.42-268.73 at Pomona for the Winternationals. He faced low qualifier John Force in the first round and beat him with a 5.39-260.11 to Force's 5.46-275. In the second round be lost to Kenny Bernstein. At the next event, the Supernationals at Houston, he qualified #10 with a 5.43-264.23 and once again met Force in the first round. Again Hoover stepped up with a 5.36 beating John in the first round for the second straight race. Unfortunately, just like at the first event, Hoover lost in round two. This time he smoked the tires and shut off giving Scott Kalitta an easy (7.60-150) victory. At the Gatornationals, he again qualified #10 with a 5.45-264.16 getting the spot. He lost to Bruce Larson in the first round. At the fourth race of the season, the Southern Nationals, he qualified #6 with a 5.49-244.75. He beat Chuck Etchells in the first round but lost to Force in round two. It was on to Memphis for the Mid South Nationals where a 5.36-264.78 qualified #5. He beat John Martin in the first round but then smoked the tires in round two and lost to Bernstein. At the Cajun Nationals, he lost in the first round after qualifying #11 with a 5.57-263.15. Things went much better at the Springnationals. He qualified in the dreaded #9 spot with a 5.44-252.66 setting up a first round meeting with low qualifier Don Prudhomme. In that race, Don overpowered the track and smoked the tires while Hoover hustled (?) to a 5.67-183 win. In the second round, he faced Mark Oswald. Mark broke after his burnout and Tom ran a 12.00-67 for the win. In the semi-finals, Jim White smoked the tires and a 5.55-242 got Tom into the final. His luck ran out in the final when Larson's 5.42-275 dropped the Firebird's smokey 6.79-135.89. The tour then traveled to Canada for the Grandnationals. A 5.54-256.77 qualified #5 and he beat Jerry Caminito in the first round with a 5.57-251.18. In the second round, Bernstein's 5.47-270 beat Tom's 5.68-211.29. The ninth race on the NHRA schedule was the Summernationals at Englishtown. Hoover ran a 5.38 to qualify #5 and he beat Etchells in the first round. In the second round he got out of shape just off the line and lost to Prudhomme. His dad, George Hoover, showed that he could tune a car in the thin air of Denver for the next race, the Mile High Nationals. He ran a 5.76-248.61 in qualifying #8, even out qualifying Prudhomme. In the first round be beat Gary Ritter but in round two he lost to Ed McCulloch.

Notes: Won three straight weekends at Lions and set a track record at 6.63. This car didn't get the recognition it deserved, beating a lot of the "name" drivers at the time. Stan ran at Irwindale's New Year's Day FC Festival to start the season. He qualified #6 in the sixteen car show with a 7.28. In the first round, he beat Mert Littlefield with a 7.54-189.06. In round two, he got past a motor blowing Ron O'Donnell and in the semi-finals, he beat Gene Conway but blew his engine doing it and was unable to make the final. He was at OCIR for the first All-Pro event where he beat Conway in the first round with a 7.10-204.54. Unfortunately, he fouled against Jim Dunn in the semi-finals. Lions hosted the AHRA Grand American on Jan 10 and Shiroma made it to the final. He ran a 7.71 over Dick Harrell's Vega and a 7.12 beat Larry Arnold in round two. A semi-final 7.55 beat a tire-smoking Dunn and advanced him into the final against Gene Snow. The 'Cuda lost fire on the line and Snow singled for the win. At Pomona for the Winternationals. Stan qualified #6 with a 7.17. In the first round, he advanced with a 7.19-205.47 when Don Prudhomme broke. He lost in round two. At the Bakersfield March Meet, he lost in the second round to Dunn. Still, in March, he raced at an eight car show at OCIR. He lost to John Lombardo in the first round. On March 20 he was at Irwindale for the "Potpourri" race. He set low ET at 7.17 but failed to make the finals. He was back at OCIR for the final All-Pro race on March 27. He ran a strong 6.95-211.76 over Conway in round one but in round two he lost to Dave Beebe. The "Skulker" caught fire on the run but Stan was OK. He was back in business in April at an eight car show at Lions. A first round 7.05-189.47 beat Wendell Shipman and in the semi-finals, a good 7.00-208.33 lost to Dunn's better 6.92-194. At the OCIR "Hang Ten" FC race, Stan ran a 7.11-189.87 in the first round over Densham's 7.24. In round two a 6.94-213.27 beat Bob Hawkins but he lost to Rich Siroonian in the semi-finals.

Notes: Beadle was running with Ford sponsorship for '82, which included a new EXP body on his car. He started the season by qualifying third at the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.99-228.42. He ran as well as a 5.97-244.56 in his semi-final win over Frank Hawley's quicker 5.96-239. In the final, he met Al Segrini where his 6.32-226.13 fell to Al's 6.26-238.09. A 5.91-243.90 (top speed) qualified first at the Gatornationals but in the first round he met Segrini again and this time Beadle got out of shape and hit the guardrail. The car ended up flipping upside down and slid into the opposite guardrail before coming to a halt. He was ok but the EXP body was totaled. At the IHRA Winternationals at Darlington, the team showed up with last year's Omni body and qualified first with a 6.02 (low et) but he failed to make the finals. He then went to Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals on April 25 where a 5.98-235.60 qualified third. A first round 5.88-238 beat Gary Burgin and a 5.93-240 beat Paul Smith in the semi-finals. In the final, he reset the NHRA record to a 5.87 with a speed of 243.24 to win the race over Hawley. On May 2 he went to Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am where a track record 5.86 led qualifying. Unfortunately, he got out of shape in the first round and lost to John Pott. He followed that race up with a win at the NHRA Cajun Nationals beating Don Prudhomme in the final with a 6.08-239.36 over Don's 6.13-247.25. He had qualified second with a 6.00. Another win came at the IHRA Springnationals where he set low et (6.00) and beat Billy Meyer in the final. He then ran at the NHRA Springnationals on June 13 where a 5.98-242.58 qualified third but in the first round he smoked all eight pistons and lost to Segrini. A week later at Norwalk for the IHRA World Nationals, Beadle set a 5.88 track record in qualifying and ran another 5.88 in his first round win over John Pott. In the semi-finals, Dale Pulde's 6.29 beat Beadle's 6.31. He qualified eighth with a 6.48-226.70 in the eight car field at the NHRA Mile High Nationals. A first round 6.51-222 beat Tom Anderson's 6.58 and a 6.25-226.69 beat Craig Epperly's quicker 6.19-230.17 in the semi-final. In the final he met Meyer who had set low et and top speed (6.12-240), but he shut down to a 6.85-149.75 and had to settle for runner-up. A 6.00 qualified second at the IHRA Summernationals but he lost to Pott in the first round. Another first round loss followed at the NHRA Grandnationals on July 4 where he qualified eighth again in an eight car show but he had a rear end break on his burnout for his race against Prudhomme. A 5.93 qualified second at the NHRA Summernationals but he failed to reach the finals. He qualified second again with a 5.94-236.22 at the PHR Championships in August at Martin, Michigan, and ran a first round 5.97 over Tim Grose. A semi-final 6.07 beat Ken Veney's quicker 6.03. In the final, a 6.02-248.61 (top speed) lost to Hawley's 6.01-236.22. Another win came at the IHRA Northern Nationals where he beat Tim Grose in the final. At the NHRA Northstar Nationals, he qualified seventh. A first round 5.97-246.57 by Gary Burgin beat Ray's 6.05-243.90. At Indy, for the US Nationals, the Max qualified a disappointing twelfth with a 5.98-224.99. And once again he failed to make the finals. A 6.19 failed to qualify for the eight car show at the NHRA Golden Gate Nationals. He rebounded with a 5.98 to qualify seventh at the NHRA World Finals but again failed in his bid to make the finals. - Ron Howard

Notes: On Oct 11, OCIR held an FC Open and after driving Tom Sturm's Corvair for most of the year, Bob showed up behind the wheel of this car. A blown trans in the first round gave Frank Pisano a single. The following weekend (Oct 18) was much better. At Lions for a Coca Cola Cavalcade event, Bob ran a first round 7.41-183.67 over Fred Goeske's 7.84 and a second round 7.28-196.07 (top speed of meet) over Ken Safford's 7.95 in the Stone, Woods and Cook Mustang. In the final he set low ET at 7.26-193.13 but fouled it away with Kelly Chadwick taking the win with an 8.06-138.46. At the Lions East/West meet on Oct 25, Bob ran a first round 7.29-200.44 but still lost to Pat Minick's 7.24-199.55. -- RH

Notes: Early in '69, until the Danny Ongais-Mickey Thompson combo jelled, there were calling Rich Siroonian the killer of the funny cars. He started the year like most other FC drivers at the Irwindale New Year's Day meet where he qualified second with a 7.62. He got crossed-up in the first round and lost to Norm Weekly's 8.10-192. Another first round loss came at the AHRA Winternationals where Dave Beebe got him in the first round. At Pomona on Feb 2 for the NHRA Winternationals, he qualified #6 with an 8.22-185.11 and a first round 8.45 beat Ed Schartman's quicker 8.39. In the second round, an 8.10 beat Don Schumacher's 8.12. But in the semi-final, both he and Ray Alley ran 8.27's with Alley winning. He won the second OCIR All-Pro race on Feb 9 after qualifying #2 with a 7.47-196.50 (top speed) . In the final, he met and defeated Schumacher with a 7.39-195.22. Another win came at an eight car show at Lions on Feb 22. He ran 7.71-188.28 in the semi-final over Jim Liberman's 7.82 and in the final a 7.70-189.07 beat Alley. At Bakersfield on March 2, a 7.73 qualified Siroonian #2, and after two easy round wins (8.50-181 and 8.23-189) he met Ongais in the final. Danny ran a 7.56-193 low et of the meet to stop Rich's 7.74-192.71. At Riverside on March 16 for the HRM Championships, a 7.73 qualified Rich #5 and he beat Rusty Dellings in the first round with a speed of 191.89 he broke and could not make the second round. On March 29 for the final OCIR All-Pro event, he ran a first round 7.62-193.80 over Gordon Mineo but Charlie Allen's 7.62-191 stopped his 7.68-192.70 in the semi's. Irwindale held an eight car show on April 13 and a 7.58-191.88 (top speed) qualified the 'Cuda #2. Mike Van Sant fouled against him in the first round and Rich still ran a 7.64-190.66. In the semi-final, against Steve Bovan it was his turn to foul. On May 3 at the OCIR Manufacturer's FC Open he qualified #1 for the Mopar team with a 7.68-190.26. Ongais' 7.55-192 beat his 7.61-194.80 in the first race and not only did he foul in his second race against Jim Ward's Javelin but he blew his trans as well. In his third race, an 8.71-168.53 beat Mike Van Sant. For the title, it was Ongais against Siroonian but the 'Cuda broke and Danny's 7.88-188 won. On May 10, Lion's held an eight car show and Rich's 7.70 (low et) qualified #1. He singled with a 7.71-189.43 in the first round but lost in the semi-final. Another win came his way on May 17 over an eight car field at Irwindale on May 17. A first round 7.74-192.30 beat Randy Walls' 7.81-180 and a semi-final 7.70-195.22 beat Johnny Wright's ailing Corvette. In the final, Rich's 7.79-190.26 beat Dave Beebe's quicker 7.77-196. Shortly after this, the car was revamped with a Keith Black 426 installed farther back in the chassis, replacing the 392.

Notes: Started year in the Trans Am, which had best times of 5.374 at 276.49. Best times for the Thunderbird body were 5.369 at 266.74. Keeping only one entry for this team in 1989 with combined times. Art started his '89 season by qualifying his Firebird #15 at Pomona with a 5.51-266.27 for the Winternationals. A first round 5.54-260.94 beat Scott Kalitta's 5.78-218 but he lost to Jim White in the second round. At the second NHRA event of the season, the Supernationals a 5.37 qualified #8 and this time he made it into the semi-finals, after getting around Kenny Bernstein who broke a rear end in round two, where he ran Scott Kalitta but smoked the tires and lost. He qualified #7 with a 5.40 at the Gatornationals on March 19. Once again he made it into the semi-finals after stopping Mark Oswald in the second round with a 5.45-270. In the semi-final, Art broke on the line against Ed McCulloch. He was at Atlanta for the Southern Nationals where he qualified #2 with a 5.39-268.97 but he lost to John Force in the first round. The NHRA tour's next stop was at Memphis for the Mid South Nationals. Art used a 5.47-242.65 to qualify #10 but lost to Don Prudhomme in the second round.
