Notes: Darrell drove this car at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where his 5.709/254.45 qualified #15. He beat Scott Kalitta in round one, 5.729/250.48 to 10.16, before losing to eventual winner Dale Pulde in round two, 5.45/268 to 5.723/255.17. Darrell qualified #14 at Gainesville in the Trans Am at 5.737/254.30. In round one, he lost to Don Prudhomme, 5.55/267 to 5.789/259.59. He qualified #12 for the IHRA Texas Nationals in April with a 5.63/264.86. He improved to 5.472 in the first round before falling off to 5.53/257.28 in round two and losing to Tripp Shumake's 5.43/258. Darrell qualified #13 at Atlanta with a 5.937/254.59. In round one, he lost to Jim Head, 5.65/253 to 5.889/246.44. His next stop was at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. A 5.80/255.97 qualified #6 in the eight car field. In the opening round, the car broke and slowed to 6.96/139.10 in a loss to Head's 5.98/245. In Memphis, Darrell qualified on the bump at 5.837/260.34. In round one, he lost to Tim Grose, 5.62/258 to 6.236/186.14. He qualified #13 at Baton Rouge (only 13 cars showed) at 6.074/238.15. Don Prudhomme got to him again in round one, 5.49/267 to 5.920/248.55. Despite losing early at the Cajun Nationals, he sat in ninth spot at this time in NHRA FC points. He wasn't far behind Tom Hoover (1,856 to 1,725 in point) who sat eighth in points. In the second week of July, he was at Milan, Michigan, for the IHRA Northern Nationals. A 5.80 qualified #6, and in the first round, his engine-blowing 7.88/107 lost to eventual winner Ed McCulloch's 5.75. Darrell was also on the bump spot at Brainerd, qualifying at 6.089/221.62. In round one, he improved to 5.979/233.16 but lost to Scott Kalitta's 5.59/262. In mid-September, he was at Norwalk for the IHRA World Nationals. His 5.96/222.77 qualified #7 for the eight car show and he lost early in eliminations. Darrell was the second alternate at the Houston Supernationals at 5.804/241.87. He skipped several events and raced at the World Finals. He was the fifth alternate at 5.805/221.83 but we think that was in his Ambition Corvette because Whit Bazemore had the former Ted Combis car and also DNQ'd at 6.005/221.67. We need confirmation of that. Photo from the 1988 IHRA Winternationals, Darlington, South Carolina. |

Notes: Qualified #2 at ADRA Spokane 8/86 at 5.770/256.41. | Gary qualified #15 at the NHRA Cajun Nationals with a 6.953/155.97. In the first round, his 7.491/134.08 lost to Tim Grose's 5.89/231. At Columbus, for the NHRA Springnationals, his 6.215/243.70 qualified #14, but he crashed in qualifying and burned the car to the ground. Alternate Jim White took his place in the field. The team rebuilt and finished the year. They returned at Indy, where a 5.951/247.52 did not qualify. Those were Gary's best NHRA numbers. Originally listed 5.735/259.86 for this year. We are replacing those numbers with the Spokane numbers until we can confirm. Photo from Indy 1986. |

Notes: Dale didn't run at the season-opening NHRA Winternationals, but he was at the NHRA Gatornationals in mid-March. He qualified #5 with a 6.06/233.76, but he shut off when the car went into a wheelstand in the first round. His 6.94/149.00 lost to Al Segrini, who had his own problems at 6.40/223. In April, he was at Indianapolis for the NHRA Division 3 Opener. He qualified #3 with a 6.49/218.97 and went on to win. In the first round, he ran 6.41/197.80 over Dominic Santucci's 6.92/170. He then set Low ET and Top Speed in the semi-final at 6.25/231.36 while defeating Tim Grose's 6.74/195. In the final, his 6.30/226.13 got the victory over Murf McKinney's 7.21. Near the end of April, he was at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. It was a tough eight-car field, and drivers such as Raymond Beadle, Don Prudhomme, and Dale Pulde failed to make it. Dale did, however, run 6.16/234.98 for the #7 spot. Unfortunately, he lost to Ron Colson in the "Hawaiian" in the first round. He failed to qualify at the NHRA Springnationals, running a 6.30/218.34 best that was good for the third alternate. He didn't run at Denver for the NHRA Mile-High Nationals, but he was at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, where he qualified #5 with a 6.05/232. He ran his best NHRA national event times of the year with a 6.049/238.72 defeat of Tom McEwen but lost the second round to Raymond Beadle in the "Blue Max." The following week (July 20), Dale was in Milan for the IHRA Northern Nationals, where he qualified #6. He lost to Dick Rosberg in the first round. In August, he won the NHRA Division 1 race at Maple Grove. Armstrong set Low ET and Top Speed in the final with a 6.20/231.95 to beat future employer Kenny Bernstein. He followed the NHRA tour to Canada for the Grandnationals. He ran 6.20/233.76 to qualify #2. In round one, he picked up to a 6.10 (Low ET) at 236.22 to beat a tire-smoking Al Segrini. In the semifinals, his 6.15 beat John Force, who also smoked the tires. In the final, he faced off against Pulde. This time, the "Speed Racer" smoked the tires, Armstrong shut off, and Pulde got the victory with a 6.16/237. He got another win on August 17 at the NHRA Division 3 race at Beech Bend. Dale set Low ET in qualifying #1 with a 6.08. He beat Paul Smith in the "Sting" in the first round, with a 6.21/227.84, and he ran an easy single in the semifinals to go into the final against Billy Meyer. The two had a good race, but Dale's 6.16/236.84 got the win over Meyer's close 6.20/238. At Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, he qualified #14 with a 6.10/234.98. In the first round, an off pace 6.39/220.58 lost to Meyer's 6.13/229. The following week (September 7), he was at Jackson County Sports Park in Medford for the NHRA Division race there. Dale qualified #4 in the eight-car field with a 6.42/221.13. He ran 6.54/216.86 to beat Gary Lewis in the first round, but in the semifinals, his 6.38/218.97 lost to eventual winner Beadle's 6.09/235. Mike Kase owner; wrecked Challenger bodied car. Ran 6.101/234.08 at NHRA Indianapolis 9/80. |

Notes: Qualified number 3 at Indy '72 with a 6.529 and finished runner-up to Ed McCulloch. Ran 6.769 at NHRA Amarillo 72. | Bonin debuted the "Pacemaker" Vega in April at the Seattle season opener. He qualified for the eight-car field and, in round one, beat Rich Rogers. Unfortunately, he lost in the semifinal. He did better at the Northwest National Open, also held in Seattle. It was another eight-car show, and Bonin ran 6.92/185.56 to advance over a broken Kenny Martin in the opening round. In the semifinals, his 6.89/207.36 beat Twig Zeigler's quicker 6.85/213. This put him into the final against Kenney Goodell. Gordie tried hard, but his 6.91/206.42 finished runner-up to Goodell's 6.68/207. Gordie qualified #9 for the Lions Last Drag Race on December 2 (times unknown but between 6.63 and 6.68). He lost a 7.10 to 7.10 decision to first alternate Omer Carruthers in round one. |

Notes: George Johnson was at Warner Robins late in March for the NHRA Division 2 Opener. He had his share of problems as the best run he got in during qualifying was 10.30. That was OK because only seven cars turned up for the eight-car show. In the first round, his 7.36/127.84 lost to Larry Fullerton's 6.56/211 in the "Trojan Horse.” Shortly after that, (April 4), he was at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Nationals, but he had bad luck there as the car broke against Raymond Beadle driving the "Blue Max" in the opening round. In April, the team was at Maple Grove for the Spring All-Pro Funny Car Championships. It was an eight-car show and Johnson was running strong as he set Low ET at 6.29 in the first round, of eliminations. But Gary Burgin got the win with a 6.48/210.77 over George's 6.59/218. The team was at Englishtown for the NHRA Division 1 Opener. Johnson beat Arne Swensen in the first round, with a 6.41/221.67 (Top Speed). Unfortunately, the car broke against Pee Wee Wallace in the semifinals. On May 23, George was at Cayuga for the Division 1 race held there. Both he and Bruce Larson smoked the tires in their first-round race, but Johnson's 7.44/208.81 came out on top over Larson's quicker 7.37/208. Wallace broke a rod on his burnout in the semifinals so George soloed for the win. In the final he faced Stan Bowman. George once again smoked the tires and his 7.78/201.34 finished runner-up to Bowman's 6.69/191. |

Notes: In the first week of May, John raced at the NHRA Division Six opener at Seattle. It was a sixteen-car field, and his 6.54/210.77 qualified #4. An easy 7.02/168.53 beat Bill Spevacek in round one, and in round two, his 6.70/173.07 defeated Richard Rogers. In the semi-final, John's 6.60/196.07 lost to Ed McCulloch's 6.48/225. The following week, he was in Portland for the Oregon Open. His 6.54 qualified #6 in the eight-car field. He improved to 6.49/202.70 in the opening round, but it wasn't enough as he lost to Bob Pickett's 6.26/225 in the M/T Grand Am. Shortly after that, he was at Fremont for a ten-car show. All cars ran two races, with the two Low ET cars meeting in the final. His car broke a magneto in his first race, and McCulloch soloed with a 6.48. In his second race, Collins ran 6.64/197.80 to beat Gary Burgin, who shut off to 7.49/125. Unfortunately, his times were not good enough to advance to the final. John was at Sacramento in June for the second NHRA Division Seven race. He lasted until the final before his late 6.94/191.49 finished runner-up to Jake Johnston's 7.09/134 in the "Pisano and Matsubara" Monza. Collins competed at the World Series of Drag Racing event held at Cordova in August. It was a two-day race, and on Friday, he shut down against Don Prudhomme in the first round. He also had problems in the first round on Saturday, where his 9.44 lost to Tommy Ivo's 6.63/221. Collins ran one of his better times of the year in the second round, where his 6.36/221.61 defeated Ron Colson's 6.60/218 in the "Hawaiian." All cars made two runs, with the two Low ET cars meeting in the final. Despite John's great run, his time did not advance to the final. John was the 4th alternate at his only NHRA national event, the World Finals (times not reported). | This one debuted as the McEwen team car in '76 after retiring the old '72 car Collins ran at Puyallup earlier that year (WOT burnouts.) He raced at the 64 funny car event in Seattle. - Joe Moore |

Notes: John debuted his new Mustang II by winning the OCIR season opener with a 6.31/214.28 in the final over Jake Johnston in the Pisano and Matsubara Monza. He wasn't entered in the event, but he made a few test runs. When the field was one car short, the track asked if he would fill in. John did and mentioned to the officials not to expect much from his new car. Lombardo set Low ET in the first round, with a 6.30/200.44 over Tripp Shumake in the "Sundance." He ran another 6.30 at only 197.36 in the semifinals to beat Jim Dunn. It was a great debut. He went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where he qualified #14 with a 6.319/217.91, but he had troubles in the first round, and shut down to 8.65 in a loss to Ed McCulloch's 6.37. On March 6, he was at Irwindale for its Night Opener. Eight cars were there, and they each made two passes, with the two overall Low ET cars meeting in the final. Lombardo wasn't close to running well enough to make the final as he smoked the tires on both his runs, losing both with times of 11.66 and 13.47. John also qualified for the NHRA Gatornationals with a 6.534/219.51 (#13), but he smoked the tires and lost to Shirl Greer in the first round, at 7.21/167.28. He was back at OCIR in March for the Fox Hunt Funny Car event. Twenty-seven cars showed for the sixteen-car field. John's 6.61 qualified #7. He improved to 6.51 at only 175.78 to win over Gary Densham, who broke. A second-round 6.35/207.85 beat Larry Arnold, but the car developed a small fire on the line in the semifinals, and he shut off against Chris Lane. His next stop was at Fremont for the NHRA Division Seven opener. His 6.51/172.41 qualified #8, and in round one, he ran 6.41/214.79 to beat Dave Uyehara's 6.44/223. He made an easy solo pass in round two, but for some reason, he was not in line for his semifinal race against "Jungle Jim" Liberman. John qualified at the NHRA Springnationals at 6.545/211.26. In round one, he lost to Don Prudhomme, 6.26/209 to 6.504/226.13. John qualified #12 at Indy at 6.356/226.70. He lost again in round one, this time to Gary Burgin, 6.12/221 to 6.597/186.72. John qualified #12 at Seattle as well with 6.352/226.13 numbers. Ed McCulloch was his roadblock in round one, at this race, taking a close 6.27/231 to 6.29/220.04 decision. John again failed to get past the first-round at the World Finals. He qualified #14 at 6.428/216.34 and lost in round one, to McCulloch again, 6.41/228 to 7.72/118. John switched from the Donovan Hemi to a Milodon early the following season and immediately showed improvement. We originally listed 6.26 for John this year. Can anyone confirm that he ran that time? |

Notes: Jim drove at two NHRA events in 1979. Did Jake Crimmins drive at IHRA Milan? The car reportedly went 238.09 there. Jim was at Englishtown in the spring for the NHRA Division One race. In the first round, his 6.65/210.77 defeated Bob Seifert. A 6.50/164.53 beat George Johnson in the semifinals. He lost to Jake Crimmins in the final. Qualified #14 at NHRA Columbus at 6.300/216.34 and defeated Trip Shumake in round one, 6.282/216.34 to 6.322/236.84. Raymond Beadle and Jim were both off the pace in round two, but Beadle was less so and won a 6.61 to 6.93 contest. Adolph Improved to a #5 qualifying 6.194/231.95 at NHRA Englishtown. He won another first-round contest with another 6.28. A 6.280/231.36 took out Bob Pickett's 11-second shut-off this time. Ron Colson's 6.27/230 took out Adolph's (blown transmission) own 11-second shut-off in round two. He was back at Englishtown for the Crazy Eddie Night of Thrills race. This race had all ten cars competing, running two rounds with the two Low ET cars advancing to the final. Jim didn't reach the final as he got out of shape in his first race and shut off against Jake Crimmins, and his 6.36/226.13 lost to Roy Harris' 6.29/230 in his second. This was the last NHRA event for the team. Jim showed up at the World Finals in Pat Johnson's Playboy-sponsored Corvette. | R/U at the March Meet to Menzies/Jackson. - Joe Mooore |

Notes: Kosty started the '80 season strong. At the AHRA Winternationals, he qualified #4 and lasted until the semifinals, where he lost to eventual winner Tom Hoover. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, he set Low ET in qualifying #1 with a 6.050/240.64. He beat Tom Ridings and Gordie Bonin in the first two rounds before getting out of shape in the semifinals and running a 7.21 that lost to Ron Colson's 6.34 in the "Hawaiian." In March, he won the Englishtown FC opener by beating Roy Harris in the final with a 6.08. In April, he won the Spring Funny Car Bonanza at Englishtown. It was an eight-car show, and his first-round 6.35/229.00 beat Larry Fullerton's 6.84/204. In the semifinals, his 6.25/233.76 beat Stan Bowman's 6.82/214. In the final, he ran Rick Johnson in the "Custom Body" Mustang that had set Low ET and Top Speed. They both smoked the tires, and Ivanof's 7.76/223.32 got the victory. Kosty was at Bristol in May for the IHRA Springnationals. He qualified #7 in the eight-car field, but he lost to Kenny Bernstein in the opening round of competition. He ran 6.11/240.00 to qualify #9 at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. Unfortunately, that set up a first-round meeting with the low qualifier, Raymond Beadle driving the "Blue Max."Beadle's 6.14/241 sent Kosty's 6.29/236.22 packing for home. The final NHRA Division One race was held in New England on August 17, and Ivanof qualified #6 with a 6.23/217.39. In the first round, an off-pace 6.51/205.01 lost to Rick Johnson's 6.16/232. He was back at Englishtown shortly after that for the US All-Pro Championships. It was an eight-car show, and Kosty's 6.61/210.77 in the first round lost to Harris' 6.19/200. He won his fourth Englishtown race of the season at its FC final in October. He made runs of 6.51 and 6.38 to make the final. In the final, his 6.43/232.55 stopped Al Hofmann. Where did Kosty run 241.93? |

Notes: Worsham started the season by qualifying #9 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.36/284.18. A 5.31/284.81 in round one, beat Gary Densham's 5.44/249, but in round two, his 5.47/254.30 lost to Dale Pulde's 5.29/262. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, his 5.37/279.93 qualified #6. Unfortunately, he lost to Richard Hartman in round one. Houston was NHRA's next stop for the Supernationals. Del's 5.29/280.02 qualified #4. Paul Smith broke against him in the first round, and Del advanced with a 5.27/280.28. In round two, he lost to Al Hofmann. Worsham's next stop was at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. He ran 5.68/254.30 to qualify #3 in the eight-car field. A 5.72/240.77 in round one, advanced when Paula Martin's Probe broke. In the semifinals, his 5.66/261.39 (Top Speed) beat Freddie Neely's 5.80/247. This put him into the final against Tom Hoover. This became an expensive pass for Del. About 700 feet into the run, the crankshaft broke. This caused a massive fireball. The engine explosion was so bad that it bent the upper main frame rail. The only thing holding the remains of the JP-1 in the car was the oil lines. Del was OK, but the car was totaled. Del recovered to have a pretty good NHRA national event season. He was runner up at Atlanta, Englishtown, and Indy and made it to round 3 at Memphis and Denver. He Ran NHRA best times of 5.194/286.89 at Ennis Fall, but he practically lived in the low 5.20s at 280 plus for the second half of the season. He set Top Speed at Sonoma at 280.89. |

He qualified #6 at Sanair for the NHRA Grandnationals with a 6.47/221.13. An opening round 6.50/217.91 lost to eventual winner Tom Hoover's 6.35/224. Al qualified #16 at NHRA Indy with a 6.234/232.55. He beat Dale Pulde in round one, 6.398/225.00 to 6.56/225. He fouled against Richard Rogers in round two and lost, 9.24/84 to Al's wasted 6.712/213. In mid-October, he was at Lakeland for a best-of-three match against Shirl Greer. He won the first race by default when Greer broke. But Greer came back to win the next two races and the match.AKA Utica Flash. |

Notes: Conway qualified seventh with a 7.95 at the PDA Championships at OCIR on July 19 and he improved to a 7.79 in the second round before losing to Dave Beebe in the semis. At the OCIR Anniversary Race on August 9, Conway lost in the first round, with an off pace 8.18/139.53. His times were improving with a 7.64/185.36 run on August 16 at Irwindale. He competed at the Drag News Nationals at Lions on August 30, but was having handling problems with the car. He lost in the first round, to Jim Adolph's 8.13/167 when the car again refused to go straight and slowed to an 11.65/67.97. On September 1, Irwindale held an eight-car show and Gene qualified #1 with a 7.67. He set Top Speed in the first round, when his 7.76/194.38 lost to Ray Alley's Low ET of the meet 7.58/190. Fortunately for Gene, Alley broke and he was reinstated, but it did him little good as the Corvette broke a rear in the semifinals. The car was then running mid pack, losing early on September 6 at OCIR with a 7.88 best and failing to qualify on September 21 at Irwindale. Gene turned it up a notch, cracking a 7.40/184.80 at Lions on October 25 for the East-West Championships. Back at OCIR for the Manufacturer's meet, Conway qualified with a 7.69 and won his first race with a 7.67/191.08. A semifinal finish and a 7.55/198.66 best came next at Irwindale's big 32-car show on November 23. The car almost caught the Corvette curse at Lions the following week on November 29, when it caught fire on the line in round one. Yet on December 6, Conway returned to OCIR to run his best time of 7.37/181.08. He broke in the semifinal. He went back to Irwindale on December 14, where he failed to qualify. |

Notes: Successor to Lenarth-Wolford's "Secret Weapon" Jeep. Aiming to circumvent the NHRA's "no roadster" rule for AA/FC, Lenarth based the 120", aluminum-bodied funny on the convertible Jeep Commando. Initially ran direct-drive, but went to two-speed trans late in year. Four-page feature in 10/69 DRM. - RT | This car took seven months to build and cost Ed $12,000. It is interesting to note that at the time you could not get a fiberglass Jeep body so the body was made of aluminum. By '69 it had to be the only Funny Car not running a fiberglass body. It still just tipped the scales at 1,800 lbs. On March 22 at Lions-22 cars showed for an eight-car field and Ed's Jeep just got in with an 8.19 on the bump. A first Round 10.81 advanced over a troubled Ronnie Runyan, but against Ron O'Donnell in the semis he lost a motor and watched Ron's 7.88/189 advance. At a sixteen-car race at Irwindale on April 26, Ed again made it into the semis beating Dale Armstrong (8.29/170) in the Travelin' Javelin with an 8.20/185.18 and a second round 8.26/177.86 over Steve Bovan's Mister T Camaro (8.93/175.09). In the semifinal against Mike Van Sant's Invader, he smoked the tires and lost while Mike ran 7.71/191 to win. At Lions on May 10 for an eight-car race, Ed qualified seventh then put a big holeshot on Runyan for a first-round win. He lost in the semis. Ron Leslie beat Lenarth's Jeep in the first round, on May 30 at Irwindale for another eight-car show. The next day (May 31) at OCIR for the Funny Car 500, Ed qualified last in the sixteen-car field at 8.42 and he fouled against Leslie in the first round. At the OCIR Benefit race on June 14, Ed qualified fifth with an 8.02, but Gary Gabelich's 8.26/187 in the Beach City Corvette beat him in round one. At the AHRA Grand American Championships at Lions on June 21, he again lost in the first round, with an 8.06/178 losing to Van Sant's 7.84/170. It was getting harder and harder to make a brick fly, but Ed was determined so on June 28 at an eight-car show at Lions he qualified sixth with an 8.00 and again lost to Van Sant in the first round. Mike's 7.63/196.07 in the Invader beat Ed's 7.93/185.18. OCIR held its Nitro Championships on July 5 and Ed qualified fourteenth, but fouled against Larry Fullerton in round one. On July 19 at OCIR for the PDA Championships, Ed's 8.32 qualified thirteenth, but Gas Ronda's 7.92 beat his 8.15 in the first round. On July 26 at Irwindale against Bob Smith in Tom Sturm's Corvair he lost a blower belt and the race. On August 2 at an eight-car show at Lions, he again lost in round one, but his losing time was a much-improved 7.75/194.80. Gary Gabelich's 7.56/178.57 beat him. On August 9, he ran a first-round 7.75/179 over Gene Conway (8.18/139.53), and a best ever of 7.67/187.11 over Bob Smith (8.02/157.89) to make it into the final against Dave Beebe at the OCIR Anniversary race. In the final the Jeep broke and Beebe ran an uncontested 7.61/197.36 in John Mazmanian's 'Cuda for the win. Back at Irwindale for a sixteen-car meet on August 16, Ed's first-round 7.87/165.44 beat Rusty Delling (7.92/167.39), but he fouled against Gabelich in round two. At Lions on August 30 for the Drag News Nationals, Ed ran a 7.74/186.33 over Ray Alley's 8.40 in the first round, but the Jeep broke and couldn't be repaired in time for the second round and Alley was reinstated. And it did fly. On September 6, he qualified third at OCIR for an eight-car race and a best ever 7.52/182.55, good for Low ET of the meet, beat Fullerton in the first round. A 7.65/171.10 beat Bob Smith in the semis and when Mike Van Sant's Invader burned enough that it couldn't appear in the final a reinstated Smith faced the Holy Toledo for the money. There Ed ran a 7.80/166.05 to pick up the win. Just prior to a Lions Funny Car race on September 13, Ed installed a two-speed transmission in the Jeep. At that event, he failed to qualify in the top eight, but they held a bracket two funny car race for cars that had failed to qualify in the top eight. He won that bracket by running a 7.74/168.22 and a 7.66/184.04 in the first two races. In the final, a 7.75/182.55 won over a crossed up Gervase O'Neil in the King Rat. At Irwindale on September 21 for an eight-car show, Ed qualified fifth with a 7.88, but lost to Gas Ronda's 7.72/193.54 in the first round. Another first-round loss came on October 11 when he fouled against Don Schumacher at the OCIR Funny Car Invitational. On October 25 at Lions for the East/West Championships, Ed ran a great 7.37/197.36 in the first round, to beat Gene Snow (7.50/148.51), but broke on the line in round two. On November 2 he qualified fourth on the wacky racers team with a 7.63 at the OCIR Manufacturers' meet. Ed fouled away a 7.74 in his first race and slept late on the line against Marv Eldridge in round two when Marv's 8.01 beat his 7.59/191.08. He won his third race when Dale Armstrong crossed the centerline. On November 23, Irwindale held a 32 car show and Frank Pisano's 7.65/192.70 beat Lenarth in the first round. On December 6, OCIR held an eight-car show and qualifying was tough. Ed ran a 7.76 and it was good for sixth alternate as Frank Pisano was on the bump with a 7.51/195.65 in his Corvair. - RH |

Notes: Roger qualified ninth with an 8.01 at the HRM Championships, but Danny Ongais' 7.50/180.00 (Low ET) beat his 8.11/181.08 in the first round. At Lions on June 28 for an eight-car show, he qualified seventh with an 8.21, but lost to Gary Gabelich's 7.51/184.80 in the first round, with an off pace 8.99/118.42. On August 16 at Irwindale for a sixteen-car show, Gene Conway (7.64/185.36) beat Wolford in the first round, but with the break rule in effect, he was reinstated. It did him little good as he fouled against Gabelich in the second round. At Lions on September 13 for an eight-car show, Rich Siroonian set Low ET of the meet in the first round, with a 7.29/194.80. Wolford was in the other lane and his 7.62/188.67 lost. The following week (September 21) at Irwindale for an eight-car show, he failed to qualify. Another eight-car show was held at Irwindale on November 1. Roger's 7.66 qualified fourth. A first-round 7.71/194.80 beat Rusty Delling's 7.71/188. Delling got back in on the break rule when Pete Bagnard had his blower lift and take the roof off his car. So the two met again in the semifinal, but this time, Delling's 7.82/185 beat Roger's 7.84/191.08. On November 7 for the OCIR Manufacturer's race, Roger qualified fourth on the GM team with a 7.79. He blew a motor in the final round, but still won when Ed Lenarth fouled away a 7.74. At the 32 car show on November 23 at Irwindale, Fred Goeske's 7.74/186.72 beat the Corvette in the first round. - Ron Howard |

Notes: Fred debuted his Duster at the Bakersfield March Meet. He beat Charlie Allen in the opening round before losing to eventual winner Mike Snively's 7.63/170 with a 7.85/196.06. On April 1, he was at LaPlace Dragway for the NHRA Division Four opener. Unfortunately, his tire-smoking 8.22/100.44 in the opening round of eliminations lost to eventual winner Leroy Goldstein's 6.72/217 in the "Candies and Hughes" car. Fred was at Atco on May 30 for a best-of-three-match race against Kosty Ivanof. In their first race, Goeske ran 7.12/187.89. The ET was a new track record. But in the second race, Fred's engine let go, and his coasting 19.82/33.10 lost to Ivanof's 9.88. Fred was done for the day, so Kosty made a solo 13.02 for the match race victory. Toured the country on the Coke circuit. Burned to the ground at Capitol Raceway. Ran 7.27 at Cecil County. |
