Notes: Harlan won the rain-delayed Grande American at New England in August. In the opening round, he actually lost when his 6.86/195 fell to Kosty Ivanoff's 6.43/182. But the four quickest cars of round one all advanced into the semi-final whether they had lost or won. His time was good enough to advance, while some notables such as Don Prudhomme, Gary Burgin, and Tom McEwen didn't make the final four. In the semi-final, he faced Ivanof again, and Kosty lost a blower belt just off the line, so Thompson soloed at 6.85/185. In the final, he faced Ray Sherman, who was driving the "Black Magic" Vega. The two had a good race that saw Harlan's 6.74/204 take the victory over Ray's 6.77/228. | The car was based out of Boynton Beach, Fla., six blocks from my grandmother's house. It was the "Fireball VEGA" through 1976, the same paint job as in the handout photo you have pictured in 1975. They fitted a Monza shell on it over the Winter for the 1977 season. - David Hapgood | Best I found for the car in '76 was a 6.31 at Detroit and a 214 at Epping. - Dennis Doubleday

Notes: vGary did indeed run 6.31 in '76, but it came with his old 'Cuda in April at Irwindale's Coca-Cola Funny Car Championships. Densham brought both his new Monza and his old ‘Cuda to the race. He had trouble with the new car and shut off against John Lombardo in the first round, while he reached the final against Don Prudhomme in his old car. But he blew the engine in the final and finished runner-up to the "Snake."

Notes: Photo from 1987 Winston All-Stars race at Texas Motorplex. West qualified #5 with a career-best 5.543 at 260.86. West qualified #7 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.63/255.39. In the opening round of eliminations, his 5.83/250.48 lost to low-buck racer Steve Hodkinson's 5.74/241. On March 15, the "Hawaiian" team went to Atlanta for an eight-car show. A 5.90/241.93 qualified #3. West ran 6.17/204.08 in the first round, to beat a tire-smoking Paul Smith, but the run was costly as it hurt the motor, and he was unable to return to run in the semifinals. A week later(March 22), they were at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. There a 5.67/257.65 qualified #8. An easy 5.79/242.19 beat Scott Kalitta's off=pace 6.21/185 in round one. Johnny's 5.81/248.48 beat Jim Head's smokey,6.75/119. Ed McCulloch also smoked the tires against him in the semifinals, and West's 5.76/252 advanced. However, all was not rosy as West had spun a bearing in his semifinal win. The team had to install a new "bullet" for the final, and in their haste, they failed to torque down the cylinder heads properly. Their final-round opponent was Don Prudhomme. Shortly after leaving, the line and "Hawaiian" broke, leaving the "Snake" all alone to run 5.72/260 for his first victory since '82. As mentioned above, he ran a career-best 5.543/263.92 to qualify #5 in the eight-car field at the Texas Motorplex for the NHRA Winston All-Star event. In the first round, he faced the low qualifier, Kenny Bernstein, and despite running 5.64/227.79, he lost to Bernstein's "Batmobile" at 5.39/263. The next stop was at Firebird Raceway for the Coor's Funny Car race. Ten cars were there that were to make two runs each. The two Low ET cars would then meet in the final. In West's first race, his 6.23/186.33 lost to Jim Dunn's 6.22/231. He picked up to 5.95/231.95 to win his second race when Tom McEwen crossed the centerline. Only two cars had run fives, his and John Force, who had run 5.88 and 5.85 to reach the final. Both made strong runs in the final as both crossed the stripe at 5.89 (West at 225.56), but Force got the "win" light. It was then back to Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. Johnny ran 5.78/244.63 to qualify the #8 beat he lost in the opening round to Kalitta. Famoso held its Bakersfield Meet on May 3, and West qualified #5 in the eight-car show with a 5.82/231.36. But in round one, his 6.10/225.00 held to the eventual winner Force, at 5.65/264. The team got a shot in the arm at Tulsa International for its annual Spring race. It was another eight-car show, and West qualified #2 with a 5.92/240.64. An opening round 6.00/238.72 beat Ron Dudley's 6.17/237, and he had a close race with Prudhomme in the semifinals that saw both run 6.04 (West at 240.64), but Johnny took the win. He faced Darrell Amerson in the final, and Darrell had just turned a career-best 5.93 in winning his semifinal race. But the run had been costly, and Darrell was a no-show, so West singled for the victory with a 5.94/243.24. The "Hawaiian" was at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals near the end of May. Only sixteen cars showed for the sixteen-car field, and West qualified last at 12.16/68.22. But the race was postponed one week due to rain. Crew chief Roland Leong could not return for the rain date, so Johnny had to work double duty. Things worked out pretty well. A first-round 5.65252.03 stoppedMcEwen's 6.11/237. A second-round 5.63/256 halted the "Snake's" 5.81/250, and in the semifinals, his 5.68/253 beat Jim Head's troubled 7.42/132. He faced Bernstein in the final, which was the end of the run for West. A 5.99/233.83 finished second best to Kenny's 5.76/258. Confirmed 263.69 at Ennis TX 10/87. Did Johnny go 5.501 at NHRA Maple Grove? We think that is a misprint because Mark Oswald is credited with Low ET there at 5.512. | At Englishtown on 8/30/87 during the K-Mart/Polaroid US All Pro Funny Car Championships, it had read that Johnny Ran 5.359 against John Force in the 2nd Round. However, it was discovered a malfunction Time stop Photocell had shaken loose from the fastener due to the turbulence from West's car & stopped the clocks (Report from 9/6/87 copy of Raceway News). - Rob McCabe

Notes: Lew got a new car after running the same Firebird in '68, '69, and '70. He also changed engines from the early 392 Hemi to the newer 426 style Hemi. He must have taken a liking to the new Mustang as not only did the sleek body cloak his chassis, but he also went through the added effort of welding up a pair of valve covers to look like he was running a Boss 429 Ford engine. In April, Lew faced Jim Liberman in a best-of-three match race at Connecticut. Liberman won the first race with a 7.19/197 over Lew's 7.32/195.65. In the second race, Liberman went into a wheelstand and shut off, giving "Brutus" the win at 7.17/196.50. Jim could not run in the final race due to a blown transmission, so Arrington soloed for the match race win. He set a 7.02 track record at 203.61 on the final pass. Lew was at the Super Stock Nationals on May 9 at York US 30, but a first-round 7.35/208.33 lost to eventual winner Gene Snow's 6.88/199. He was runner-up to Jake Johnston at Atco for the CARS Magazine Meet. Also, 6.77 at New England Dragway on October 11, 1971. He crossed the country to race at Fremont in late October 1971 (6.75). Lew's best 1971 times are courtesy of Dennis Doubleday.

Notes: After crashing the team's Trans Am at the Gators, the team brought out this Dodge Omni. It was the first nitro Omni body to hit the track. (The Omni/Charger didn't really become the "go-to" body until 1981). Len attempted to qualify at the PHR Championships in August, but his best of 6.50 was good for the fifth alternate. At Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, he qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field with a 6.104/235.66. A first-round 6.206/230.76 beat John Force's quicker 6.28/241, but in round two, he lost to Tom Ridings in Joe Pisano's car, 6.15/240 to 6.307/199.11. That was the team's last NHRA national event of the year. We need to confirm the 6.07.

Notes: Vic was at Dragway 42 in May for the AHRA Grandnationals. He qualified #3 in the sixteen-car field with a 6.62/209.79. Unfortunately, a tire-smoking 7.97 in the first round lost to Norm Wilcox's 7.08 in the "Hawaiian." At St. Louis for the AHRA Springnationals, a 6.80/196.51 qualified #7 in the eight-car field. He lost to eventual winner Dick Custy in the first round. Shortly after that, he was at Tri-City for an eight-car show. All cars were to make three passes. Vic ran 6.96/197.80 to beat Wilcox's 7.97 in his first race. In the second race, his 6.83/200.00 lost to Tom Hoover's 6.72/191. In his final appearance, he got a solo run, running 7.02/196.93. In August, Vic was at Englishtown for an eight-car show. In the first round, he set Top Speed with a 6.53/222.77 that beat Denny Savage's out-of-shape 8.83 in the "Chi-Town Hustler." In the semifinals, he improved to a 6.50 at 220.04 to beat Al Segrini's 6.80/211. Unfortunately, he suffered engine damage on the run and could not return for the final. Runner-up to PHR Championships race at US 131 to Don Prudhomme. Cecelia ran 6.60, 6.51, and 6.44. Michael Beach photo from Martin, MI, 1976.

Notes: Johnson started driving in mid-season and still finished second in the NHRA Division Five FC standings. He was also named Division Five's "Rookie Driver of the Year." In one of his earliest openings with the car, he was at Bison Dragways for a best of three match against Russell Long, who was driving the "Chi-Town Hustler." In the first race, his 7.78/177.07 lost to Long's 6.81. Rick then evened the score by running 6.76/206.42 to win the second race. But in the final run, both smoked the tires, and Russell recovered first to win at 10.61. He qualified at Englishtown, Seattle, and Ontario, with respective best times of 6.596/216.34, 6.550/218.44, and 6.313/228.42. Rick made it to the second round at Ontario.

His 5.40/270.02 qualified #13; in round one, he picked up to 5.25/275.65, but it came at a loss as Al Hofmann beat him with a 5.24/268. He skipped the NHRA Mid-South Nationals at Memphis but was back on the NHRA tour for the Mopar Nationals at Englishtown. There he qualified #8 with a 5.21/281.42. He beat a troubled Dean Skuza in round one with a 5.79/197.36. He lost to eventual winner John Force in round two. Best times of 5.214/284.53 at Englishtown and Indy, respectively.

Notes: Dunn started his season at OCIR for its Grand Premiere race. The track was cold and slick. It was an eight-car show, and in round one, Jim's 6.42/214 beat Tripp Shumake, who shut down in Joe Pisano's car. He got out of shape in the second round and shut off to a 10-second time to win over Billy McCahill. He went up against Kenny Bernstein, and his 6.32/210.28 finished runner-up to Kenny's 6.21/238. Jim qualified #10 at Pomona with a 6.229/236.22 for the NHRA Winternationals. A first-round 6.18/227.27 lost to eventual winner Frank Hawley's 6.08/236 in the "Chi-Town Hustler." At Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet, Jim qualified #6 in the eight-car field with a 6.18/237.46. His 6.19/241.28 lost to his son Mike's 6.00/240 in the "Hawaiian" in the first round. OCIR held its first of two 64 car shows early in April. Of course, Jim was there. In the first round, he had problems and shut down against Bruce Iversen. In the second round, he got out of shape and shut off again against Tripp Shumake, who was blasting to 5.74 in the other lane. A week later (April 9), OCIR held its second 64 car show. Jim ran a lot better this time. His 6.17/240.00 in the opening round beat Billy Meyer's 6.19/222. In the second round, his 6.05/231.36 beat Henry Harrison. This was one of those races where everyone made two runs, and the two Low ET cars would race in the final. Unfortunately, his 6.05 was the third-lowest ET, and he didn't advance to the final. | Jim also ran 5.97 Orange County 10/16/83. | By summer '83, this car was red and ran a 5.90 single at the summer OCIR race that put him out for the night. - Joe Moore

Notes: Al started the season by qualifying #3 at the NHRA Winternationals at 5.862/255.68. His speed was a new Pomona track record. He went on to win the race by first beating a blower popping John Collins with a 5.904/246.57 and then running 5.929/250.69 over a tire-smoking John Lombardo. In the semifinals, both he and John Force were on and off the load pedal in a tire-smoking contest that saw the "Super Brut" come out on top, 6.507/229.59 to 6.72/242. In the final, he ran Tim Grose. It was a good race, and Segrini won with a 5.967/234.98 over Tim's 6.03/247. At the NHRA Gatornationals, a 5.881/248.61 qualified #7. He advanced past the first-round with a 12.81/56.07 when opponent Dale Pulde broke. He lost to Billy Meyer in the second round, 6.17/226 to a 9.73. He then went to Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. He qualified #9 with a 6.09. Unfortunately, he lost early. NHRA's next event was the Southern Nationals at Atlanta, and Al qualified #8 at 5.903/250.69. He beat a coasting Mike Dunn in round one, 5.900/246.57, but lost to Grose in an incredible second-round matchup, 5.945/243 to 5.945 (no speed). Grose's .542 to .557 starting line advantage made the difference. Al qualified #15 at NHRA's Cajun Nationals at 6.118/239.36 and surprised Raymond Beadle in round one, 6.200/220.58 to 9.29. Al lost to Jim Head in round two. Head got no times but finished ahead of Al's 7.71/250.69. Strange! Bristol was his next stop for the IHRA Springnationals. He ran well, but he lost to Denny Savage in round two. Things didn't go so well at the NHRA Springnationals, where his best of 6.025/247.93 failed to qualify (first alternate). He did better at the NHRA Grandnationals, where he qualified #13 in a short 14-car field at 6.252/232.88, but he lost to Dale Pulde in round one, 5.94/233 to 6.053/236.84. Segrini qualified on the "bump" at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals at 6.043/247.93, but another first-round loss came at the hands of Mike Dunn, 5.88/250 to 5.990/246.57. Al qualified #12 at 6.009/242.58. In round one, he lost to Pulde, 5.93/249 to a 13-second shutoff. Al's 5.874/250.69 grabbed the #10 slot at Indy, but again he lost a close one in round one, to Ed McCulloch, 5.86/248 to 5.885/244.56. That was Al's last NHRA national event in the Super Brut car. He began racing with Joe Pisano in the post-season and into 1985. Photo from 1984 Cajun Nationals. Formerly listed 5.765 for this year. Did Al run that somewhere off the NHRA tour? Removing that until we get validation.

Notes: Tom debuted a new Daytona at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. He had lots of problems and ended up losing two blowers, one in qualifying, and one in a first-round loss against Del Worsham. He qualified #11 with a 5.39/269.92. He went to Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals where he ran 5.43/272.72 to qualify #10. He lost to Chuck Etchells in the first round. At the seventh NHRA race of the '92 season, he was in Ohio for the Springnationals where a 5.40/256.04 qualified #7. He picked up to a 5.33 at 255.97 to beat Jerry Caminito's 5.59/252 in the first round, but in the second round, he lost to Cruz Pedregon. He made the trip up north for the NHRA Grandnationals at the end of June. He qualified #7 with a 5.44/267.45 and a first-round 5.55/249.03 beat a tire smoking Gary Densham. Once again, he lost to Pedregon in the second round. Tom's 5.46/256.04 finished second best to Cruz's 5.39/274. This started to become routine when at Englishtown for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals, he qualified #8 with a 5.33/264.62 and in round one, beat Whit Bazemore's 5.56/263 with a 5.36/258.32. But once again in round two for the third straight race he came up against Pedregon. This time Hoover lost oil pressure on the line and shut off giving Cruz a solo into the semifinals. At Denver in the middle of July for the NHRA Mile High Nationals, Tom again made it into the second round. He qualified #6 with a 5.44/257.28 and then improved to a 5.37/265.56 in the first round, while beating Norm Wilding. But in the second round, his 5.57/229.06 lost to Al Hofmann's 5.41/262.

Notes: Dean started the season at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified #9 with a 5.20/282.04. He beat Richard Hartman in the first round, with a 5.24/283.01. Things didn't go as planned in round two. He beat his opponent Cruz Pedregon as planned with a 5.22/285.26 beating Pedregon's 5.25/283, but in the shut down area, Dean had trouble getting his car stopped and he ended up hitting the hay bails at the end of the track and wrecking the Firebird body. For the semifinals, they installed their old Probe body. Unfortunately, a 5.25/283.46 lost to Al Hofmann's 5.11/278. At the Quality Care Nationals, Skuza qualified #10 with a 5.28/280.63, but he fouled away a 5.34/261.32 in the first round, against eventual winner John Force's 5.24/282.

Notes: 1972 World Champ and briefly had the quickest Funny Car ET of all time as well. Coming off an outstanding season, Fullerton hoped to have even more success in '73. Fullerton qualified #6 at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals with a 6.58/216.86. An opening round 6.58/217.91 beat Jim Nicoll's 6.77/221, but an off-pace 6.96/205.01 lost to Dave Condit's 6.57/216 in the "LA Hooker." Larry had one of 58 cars that attempted to qualify at Pomona for the sixteen-car field at the NHRA Winternationals. Unfortunately, his best was good for the eighth alternate. On April 29, he was at Atco for its Funny Car Factory Showdown race. It was an eight-car show, and in the opening round of eliminations, his 7.66/200.89 lost to eventual winner "Jungle Jim" Liberman's 6.50/223. He came back out later for a consolation race against Richard Tharp driving the "Blue Max," but the "Trojan Horse" lost fire on the line. At the Warner Robins National Open in May, he and Harry Hudson had a tire-smoking dual in round one, that saw Larry's 7.71 come out on top over Harry's 7.86. But in the semifinals, the "Trojan Horse" broke on the line against eventual winner Tom Crevasse in the "Fireball Vega." New England held its Spring Funny Car Championships early in June. It was a sixteen-car show, and in the opening round, Larry's late 6.70 lost to Paul Radici's 6.75. He was at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals, where a first-round 6.62 beat Paul Smith in the "Sir Wells" Charger. He beat Pat Foster in round two before losing a blower belt in the semifinals against eventual winner Bill Leavitt. From there, he went to New England for its fourth Funny Car Tourney event. He set Low ET with a 6.44, but his parachute fell out on the line in the first round, and he watched as his opponent, Foster, soloed into round two. His next stop was at Connecticut for its Summer Funny Car Championships. This was another sixteen-car show. Everything went well for the "Trojan Horse" this day, right up until Larry got the "win" light in the final. He started eliminations by running 6.78/170.45 to beat the "Damn Yankee." In round two, he improved to 6.57/216.34 to defeat Dean Lapole's 6.94/204 in the Chevy-powered "King Camaro." His ETs continued to fall in the semifinal, where his 6.54/203.61 advanced when Pete Hill shut down. He faced Tom Prock in the "Custom Body" car in the final. Larry got out on Prock, and his 6.51/221.67 held for the win over Prock's track records of 6.45/223. Then things went wrong. The Mustang exploded into a ball of flames just past the finish line. Larry was ok, but the car had seen better days. Fullerton got the car repaired and was at Englishtown on July 4 for its Funny Car Spectacular race. A 6.78/178.57 beat Fred Goeske in round one. He failed to qualify for the NHRA Summernationals at Englishtown. On July 25, he was at Maple Grove for the All-American race, but an off-pace 7.34/162.16 in the opening round lost to Al Hanna's 6.86/199 in the "Eastern Raider."

Notes: Al won the final NHRA Division One race held in New England in August. It was an eight-car show, and his 6.45 qualified #2 behind Dick Rosberg's 6.23 in the "Fighting Irish" car. These two would work their way into the final. Bergler really picked up in the opening round, where he set Low ET with a 6.22/220.58 to defeat Tim Kushi's 6.73/195. A semifinal 6.30/220.58 beat a troubled Larry Fullerton in the "Trojan Horse." Rosberg's car had broken on its semifinal race, and Bergler ran a solo 17-second run for the victory.

Notes: Rick Howard photo from 1995 NHRA Oldsmobile Springnats, Columbus. DNQ with a best of 5.47/274.97. Confirmed 292.39 at Maple Grove '95. Did Gordie run 297.49 this year (if so, it was not at an NHRA national event). | Bonin started his season at the Bakersfield Warm-up event in January. The team had lots of problems and the best they could run was 6.25/151.31. The following week, they were at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. Crew Chief Leonard Hughes was having a rough time getting the car to hook up. A 5.36/273.97 got them into the show in the #15 spot. But an opening round 5.42/247.72 lost to eventual winner Cruz Pedregon's 5.14/285. The NHRA Arizona Nationals went even worse. Hughes was trying out a different engine combination. Gordie made runs of 7.05, 11.59, 5.54, and 6.05. His 5.54/274.30 ended up as the second alternate for the show. The NHRA Slick 50 Nationals was another tough race for the team. Bonin qualified #15 with a 5.56/258.69 and he lost to John Force in the opening round. Gordie qualified #12 at Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals with a 5.34/278.81. An opening round 5.39/270.43 beat Gary Clapshaw, but he lost to Chuck Beal in round two. The team eventually got it sorted out and had a pretty good season. Best NHRA national event ET was a 5.137 at the Ennis Fall event.

Notes: AKA the Super Chief. This is Steve Bovan at OCIR in 1968. The car ran mainly on the West Coast in 1968. The fans loved the car as the Keith Black hemi always ran great. Nelson held a contest asking the fans to name the car. They came up with "Super Chief" for his Indian (Native American) heritage. The 7.68 was run at OCIR. - Danny White | Steve started driving the car in early April. He raced Nelson's car at Carlsbad on April 7 for an eight-car show where he made it into the semifinals before Jack Chrisman's 8.06/182 beat him. On April 13, he was at OCIR, where 20 cars ran the first-round, and the lowest eight ETs advanced into round two. Bovan had no problem advancing as his 7.81/195.64 was Low ET and Top Speed of the meet. In round two, however, the big Charger broke, giving Dick Loehr a free ride into the semifinals. He was back at OCIR on May 4 for its 1968 1/2 Funny Car Team Championships, but he failed to reach the finals. Another event at OCIR that he participated in was the Fuel Altered vs. Funny Cars race on May 18. Steve won all three of his races and set a 7.68 track record. He first beat a fouling Leon Fitzgerald with a 7.76/193.96. Then a 7.85/194.38 beat Willie Borsch's 8.17/187. Then he set his track record with a speed of 195.64 while beating Gary Reed's 8.06/195 in his last race. - RH | Four-page feature in 2/69 Super Stock and FX magazine. - RT

Notes: Della ran several NHRA events in 1986. She was the fifth alternate at Gainesville at 6.53/227.84. She qualified #15 at Columbus at 6.229/226.07 but lost to Brad Tuttle in round one, 5.97/248 to a 10-second shutoff. Shortly after the Springnationals, she qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field at the Super Stock Nationals with a 6.15/221.67. In the opening round, her 6.24/217.89 lost to Scott Kalitta's 5.90/243. The following week (July 6), she was in Milan for the IHRA Northern Nationals, but she failed to qualify for the eight-car show. Della qualified #15 at Denver with 7.717/168.89. She again shut off in round one to an 11-second run, sending John Force on his way to a 6.03/238 victory. Woods ran the IHRA PHR Martin MI 1986 race. Della qualified on the "bump" at the NHRA Northstar Nationals with a 6.395/234.37. In the first round, her ailing 6.847/149.75 lost to Ed McCulloch's 5.96/241. She attempted to qualify at Indianapolis for the NHRA US Nationals, but her best of 6.755/227.27 failed to make the show. Woods also could not qualify at the NHRA Keystone Nationals with a best of 6.332/233.38 third alternate effort. Della qualified #15 at the NHRA Chief Nationals at the Texas Motorplex with a 5.796/236.90. She ran a strong 5.884/234.92 in the first round, but it wasn't enough to beat Mark Oswald's 5.70/260 in the "Candies and Hughes" Firebird. She failed to qualify at the NHRA Fallnationals at Phoenix (times not reported). Photo from Milan, MI, 1986.

Notes: Bob won the Cajun Nationals this year. Pickett qualified #5 at Martin, Michigan, for the NHRA Division Three race with a 6.45/207.37. He picked up to a 6.39/228.42 in the opening round, but it wasn't enough to beat low qualifier Don Prudhomme's 6.14/236. He was at Brainerd International for the US Funny Car Championships. On Saturday, he raced Prudhomme, and his 6.54/220.58 lost to Prudhomme at 6.24/235. Bob qualified on the "bump" at Ontario for the NHRA World Finals with a 6.260/230.76. He had problems in the first round against Pat Foster and shut down to 16.20-45. The 6.26 was Bob's best NHRA time this year. Did he run 6.165 somewhere? Former Tom Hoover "Showtime" Monza.

Notes: Qualified #9 at NHRA Gainesville at 6.540/213.77 and dropped a first-round decision to eventual winner Gordie Bonin, 6.27/225 to 6.63 (no speed recorded). Midway through the 1977 racing season, the team of Jim Fox & Fred Frey decided to break from active participation and the hectic pace of all-night traveling and running the car 2/3 dates per week, week in and week out. With an agreement with Fox and Frey, the entire operation was handed over to Dodger to run as his own deal. | Glenn competed at the Dutch Classic at Maple Grove on May 15. He didn't run quick enough to gain access to the final round, but he did run 6.52/209 in one race to beat "Jungle Jim" Liberman's 6.66/206. Glenn qualified on the "bump" at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals with a 6.47/222.70. In the opening round of eliminations, his opponent, Dale Emery, fouled. It should have been an easy win for Glenn, but he blew the motor on his 6.39/230.17 pass. The team installed a new "bullet" for the next round, but the car got out of shape, and he lost to Billy Meyer, 6.82 to 6.96/182.18. That was the team's last NHRA national event in 1977.
