Notes: Kenji started the season by pushing Jim Dunn's car to a 5.25/278.46 to qualify #10 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. Unfortunately, both he and Tom Hoover smoked the tires in the first round, with Hoover's 8.45/150 beating Okazaki's shut off 11.42/73.87. At the NHRA Motorcraft Nationals in Arizona, a 5.29/280.46 qualified #9. He beat Whit Bazemore in the first round, with a 5.30/268.09, but an even better 5.27/267.05 in round two lost to eventual winner Cruz Pedregon's 5.13/289. The NHRA Supernationals at Houston was not a good outing for Dunn and Okazaki. They qualified #8 with a 5.30/267.45. Kenji went back out to try to better his time and had a motor blow. The resulting fire wrecked the body and they were unable to run in eliminations. The team was unable to repair in time for the NHRA Gatornationals, but they were back in action at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals in April. Unfortunately, a best of 6.16/155.44 failed to qualify. Kenji qualified at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals in May. His 5.43/261.62 qualified #9. More bad luck set in when he broke in the first round, against Gordon Mineo. The next race was the Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown. Kenji ran 5.27/262.92 to qualify #10. A 5.23/269.13 advanced past the first-round when Bazemore broke(?). He lost to Chuck Etchells in round two.

Notes: Pedregon started the season at Firebird Raceway's Test and Tune event in January He and crew chief Lee Beard made six passes with a best of 5.33/272.06. Tire shake killed three runs, but the other two were 5.52/257.28 and 5.39/269.29. At NHRA's season-opening Winternationals at Pomona, Cruz set Low ET of the meet in qualifying #1 with a 5.10/285.26. He eased to 5.87/170.68 in the first round, when Jerry Caminito broke, but in the second round, his 5.20/286.44 lost to Dale Pulde's 5.12/284 in Joe Pisano's car. The following week, he was in Arizona for the NHRA Motorcraft Nationals. Once again, he qualified #1, this time with a track record 5.07 at 284.18. He went on to win the race by beating Tom Hoover with a 5.13/288.00, Kenji Okazaki with a 5.13/289.01 (Top Speed), and in the semifinals, his 5.20/287.90 took out Del Worsham's 5.27/283. In the final, he faced Jim Epler, and Cruz won with a 5.21/263.31 over Epler's troubled 9.56/89.65. NHRA's next stop was at Houston for the Slick 50 Nationals. Cruz qualified #4 with a 5.14/286.16. Once again, Cruz ran well, running 5.15/279.50 in the opening round over Worsham and a 5.22/277.26 beat Chuck Etchells' identical 5.22/276 in round two. Unfortunately, he fouled away a 5.17/281.09 in the semifinals and lost to eventual winner John Force's 5.04/294. At the NHRA Gatornationals, a 5.20/285.71 qualified #6. He beat Caminito in the first round, with a 5.29/280.72, but a 5.27/250.83 lost to Force's 5.09/292 in round two.

Notes: Al qualified #2 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.13/289.20. A first-round 5.25/282.48 beat Richard Hartman while in round two, a 5.16/281.86 beat a tire-smoking Tom Hoover. In the semifinals, his 5.30/283.72 lost to Del Worsham's 5.22/290. At the NHRA Motorcraft Nationals in Arizona, a 5.26/282.48 qualified #7. He beat Chuck Etchells' 5.22/272 in the first round, with a 5.15/287.72. In the second round be beat John Force's 5.22 with a 5.16/276.07. Unfortunately, the run came at a price as the engine blew and the resulting fire destroyed the car. He was unable to run in the semifinals giving his scheduled opponent, Jim Epler a freebie into the final. He recovered nicely at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals. There he ran a career-best (to this point) 5.09 at 289.57 to qualify #2. In round one a 5.13/281.86 beat Jack Wyatt. In the second round, his 5.18/285.62 beat Hoover. In the semifinals, he beat Brent Fanning with a 5.18/269.05. This moved him into the final against Force. Al wanted this one badly, maybe too badly, as he fouled and shut down to 10.16/81.16 while John got the victory with a 5.05/289. He picked up a bit more at the NHRA Gatornationals when he set a Gainesville track record in qualifying #1 with a 5.08 at 284.36. Hofmann and Force worker their way to the final for the second NHRA event in a row. Al beat Epler with a 5.40/268.33 in the first round, while a 5.21/283.46 advanced in round two when Chuck Etchells broke. In the semifinals, Gary Bolger smoked the tires and Al's 5.17/284.27 moved into the final. Luck was not on Al's side as he when into a wheelstand and shut down to 11.08/74.61 while Force got another one with a 5.21/257. He hit a home run at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational. While the event didn't offer points, it was sure a dominating performance. He qualified #1 in the eight-car field with a 5.26/278.63. He ran like a bracket racer hitting 5.26/276.83 and 5.26/282.39 to beat Bolger and Cruz Pedregon and advance into the final. In the final, he met Gordie Bonin driving the "Hawaiian." Al got the victory with a Low ET and Top Speed blast of 5.18/288.55.

Notes: Roland got the sponsor, but no money ever changed hands. That is why Roland parked the car after this race. The team switched between two beautiful bodies on this car in '93: a purple one and the aqua, blue one pictured here at Columbus 1993. One half of the quickest side-by-side race in history at Houston Slick 50 Nats with John Force, Gordie 5.131, and Force 5.156. This team made its NHRA debut at the Supernationals. Car owner Roland Leong turned the wrenches over to Leonard Hughes, and he hired "240 MPH" Gordie Bonin to drive. Things started slowly when they failed to qualify at Houston, but things went much better at the NHRA Gatornationals. Bonin qualified #9 with a 5.36/286.35. He improved to 5.28/281.86 in the first round, but it wasn't enough to beat Chuck Etchells' 5.21/274. NHRA's next event was the non-points Winston Invitational at Rockingham. A 5.37/276.32 qualified #6 in the eight-car field, and in round one, his 5.42/268.01 advanced when Etchells broke. In the semifinals, Gordie had a bit more luck when Wyatt Radke broke against him, and his 5.33/237.34 advanced into the final. There he met Al Hofmann, and this time Bonin had problems and slowed to a 10.14/80.97 while Al got the victory with a 5.18/288. The team really picked up the pace at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, where Gordie's 5.14/286.53 qualified #3. Unfortunately, the throttle linkage broke in the first round, and his 6.58/134.60 lost to Tom Hoover's 5.72/195. The next stop on the NHRA tour was at Memphis for the Mid-South Nationals. A 5.30/282.22 qualified #5. Bonin picked up to a 5.23/279.76 in the first round to beat Jim Epler, and in round two, his 5.26/285.89 got around Etchells close 5.27/274. In the semifinals, Bonin slowed to 5.53/242.71, which lost to eventual winner John Force's 5.27/284. At Englishtown for the Mopar Parts Nationals, a great 5.08 at 285.80 qualified #3. He beat Gordon Mineo in round one, with a 5.23/277.60, but in the second round, he lost to Hoover. It had been twelve years since Bonin's last NHRA victory, but at the Springnationals, he got another. In qualifying, a 5.23/289.48 (Top Speed) had placed him #4 on the grid. A first-round 5.27/282.39 took out Gary Densham, while in round two, his 5.24/288.73 beat Hofmann's 5.25/281 in a close one. Bonin had to do a bit of driving in the semifinals as his 5.31/284.90 beat Radke's slightly quicker 5.30/278. He beat Mineo in the final with a 5.60/194.34. He almost made it two in a row when he reached the final at the next NHRA race, the Western Nationals. There he qualified #2 with a 5.27/282.75. A first-round 5.40/280.46 beat Densham. He lost a blower belt in round two, and the car slowed to 6.48/144.92, but it was still enough to beat a tire-smoking Hoover who registered a 9.80 in losing. Gordie had a close semifinal race with Cruz Pedregon, where his 5.37/271.98 narrowly beat Pedregon's 5.39/268. This set up a final-round meeting with Force. This was Force's race as he qualified #1, set Low ET and Top Speed, and in the final, his 5.25/283 got the victory over Bonin's troubled, shut off 9.97/82.16. Another final round appearance came at the NHRA Mile High Nationals in Denver. Hughes tuned the car to a 5.45/259.44 in qualifying #4 in the thin air. Bonin made his way to the finals by stopping Jerry Caminito in the first round, with a 5.52/265.33 and a second-round 5.45/273.55 beat Bruce Nilson. Etchells smoked his tires against him in the semifinals, and Bonin's 5.60/240.96 got him into the final. He faced Pedregon, and Gordie's 5.71/253.23 was no match for Cruz at 5.48/263. After all those good runs, Sonoma was a bit of a disappointment. The team qualified #8 for the NHRA California Nationals with a 5.35/281.51, but Hofmann beat them in the first round.

Notes: Skuza's first NHRA event of the season was at the Gatornationals. He had lots of problems there, and his 11.20-74.44 best failed to qualify. He did better at Atlanta in April for the NHRA Southern Nationals, where although he still failed to qualify, he improved to 6.39/155.89. Dean was the first alternate at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals with a 6.06 best. Things really clicked at Englishtown in May for the Mopar Parts Nationals. His 5.26/274.80 qualified #9. Unfortunately, he lost to Gary Cellone in the opening round. He was the first alternate at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals with a 5.44/254.02. The next stop was at Topeka at the end of June for the NHRA Western Nationals. Skuza qualified #9 with a 5.41/271.98. But once again, he fell in the first round, this time to Kenji Okazaki. He bypassed the following few events before returning to the schedule at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals. Only 15 cars showed, so qualifying wasn't an issue. Dean's 7.61/112.55 qualified #14. This time he lost to Chuck Etchell's in round one. Then came Indy, Dean's 5.34/284.09 just made the field qualifying on the "bump." In the first round, his 5.39/269.46 lost to eventual winner John Force's 5.15/285. He stepped it up at Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals, where his 5.25/277.17 qualified #7. Despite the good qualifying effort, he still lost in the first round to Okazaki. He ran a career-best (to this point) of 5.08/291.07 to qualify #4 at the NHRA Heartland Nationals. He also got his first-round win of the year when his 5.25/274.47 beat Tom Hoover's 5.35/271. In round two, his 5.26/274.89 lost to Freddie Neely's 5.16/288. He also ran well at the NHRA Chief Nationals, where he qualified #8 with a 5.19/284.45. A slightly better 5.17/290.13 fell o Del Worsham's 5.17/292 in the first round. Dean ran his best ET of 5.087/291.07 at the NHRA Sears/Craftsman Nats, Topeka 1993. He ran 5.088/294.69 for his best speed at the 1993 World Finals. Notes: Pulde qualified #8 at Pomona for NHRA Winternationals with 5.24/281.07. He improved to 5.11/285.53 in the opening to defeat Gary Bolger. In round two, his 5.12/284.27 beat Cruz Pedregon's 5.20/287. But despite running a consistent 5.13/283.37 in the semi-final, he got left on by John Force, and Force's 5.15/288 held on to win. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, his 5.18/282.84 qualified #3. Unfortunately, he shut down early with problems in the first round and lost to Gordon Mineo's 6.14/163. He did not go to Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, but he was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. He qualified #4 there at 5.12/289.76. But he went home early again as his off-pace 5.82/240.77 fell to Bolger's 5.35/262 in the first round. Dale's best times were 5.088 at Ennis and 289.76 at Gainesville.

Notes: Jim showed up at Columbus driving this Cutlass rather than the Daytona-bodied car he had been running in the first half of the season. He had many problems, and his 7.84/117.89 best failed to qualify. Epler then went to Topeka for the NHRA Western Nationals, where although he improved to 5.75/263.15, he still failed (third alternate)to qualify. He debuted a new McKinney-built Cutlass at the NHRA Mile High Nationals, where his 5.49/241.15 qualified #5. He fell off to 5.68/215.82 in the first round in a loss to Bruce Nilsen's 5.56/257. He did not race at Sonoma for the NHRA California Nationals, but he was at Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals. He qualified #3 with a 5.17/287.44. An easy 6.57/134.77 advanced in the first round when Gordon Mineo broke. In the second round, his 5.22/247.11 lost to eventual winner John Force's 5.20/287. He skipped going to Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals, but he was at Indy for the NHRA U.S. Nationals. Jim's 5.25/291.54 (Top Speed) qualified #7. He improved to 5.23/263.85 over Paul Smith's 5.32/261 in the first round. Freddie Neely fouled against him in round two, and Jim took it easy at 7.38/117.61. In the semi-final, his 5.22/291.26 lost to Kenji Okazaki's 5.19/270. Maple Grove was the next stop on the NHRA tour, and Epler qualified #6 for the Keystone Nationals with a 5.22/279.06. In round one, his 5.29 fell to Cruz Pedregon's 5.24. First funny car over 300 MPH and ninth member of the Slick 50 300 MPH Club (including Top Fuel) on October 3/1993, with a 300.40 at Topeka, Kan.

Notes: Low qualifier at Sonoma 1993 (setting a new track record). | Mineo, 61, and four others, including three members of his family, died in September 2006 as the result of a high-speed boating accident on a Texas lake. News accounts reported Mineo's craft collided with another boat during a 100-mph poker run. - RT | Photo from Ennis 93. - RO | Mineo started the '93 season at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. Unfortunately, his best of 5.88/187.57 was good for the second alternate spot. At the NHRA Motorcraft Nationals in Arizona, he qualified #14 with a 5.55/253.95. He beat Dale Pulde in the first round, with an off-pace 6.14/163.01. He broke in round two, giving Jim Epler a free ride into the semifinals. Gordon qualified #6 at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals with a 5.20/257.06. A troubled 6.14/166.29 beat an equally troubled Gary Densham at 7.40/104 in round one, but in round two he lost a motor against Brent Fanning and the resulting fire destroyed the Firebird body. He was OK. He had a new body installed in time for the NHRA Gatornationals. A 5.28/282.04 qualified #7. In the first round, Paul Smith fouled against him and Mineo advanced with a 5.68/222.99. He lost to Freddie Neely in round two.

Notes: Rick Howard photo from 1993 US Nats (Big Bud Shootout), Indy. Qualified 13th at 5.29/280.72 for Monday eliminations. Improved to 5.24/281.60, but lost to Al Hofmann in round one. (Qualified on the bump 8th spot in the Big Bud Shootout. Lost to John Force in round one). | Bazemore first drove for Johnny West on July 10 at the Parts Plus Nationals at US 131 Martin, Michigan. Four Funny Cars ran at the meet and Whit was declared the overall winner when he beat Jerry Caminito with a 5.65 and Gary Bolger with a 5.61 at a track speed record of 264.90. His next outing was at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. A 5.77/247.38 qualified #14, but a first-round 5.86/195.99 lost to Tom Hoover's 5.69/248. NHRA's next stop was at Sonoma for the California Nationals. There a 5.51/269.54 qualified #13. Whit lost to Cruz Pedregon in the first round. Bazemore qualified #10 at Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals with a 5.27/284.09. A first-round 5.28/285.17 failed to get past Gordie Bonin's 5.24/281. At the NHRA Northstar Nationals, only fifteen cars showed for the sixteen spots available so qualifying was not a problem. Still, Whit ran 5.61/266.98 to qualify #12. A first-round 5.53/270.83 beat Hoover's 5.63/203. In the second round, Bazemore showed his driving skills when his 5.31/275.22 beat Hofmann's quicker and faster 5.26/280. His run came to an end in the semifinals where he lost to Cruz Pedregon.

Notes: Photo from Columbus 1993. Ran this 5.11 at Winternats - beating John Force - except he hit the top end timing cones, negating the time & losing the race. | Whit qualified #12 with a 5.26/285.08 at the NHRA Winternationals, and as mentioned above, defeated Force with a career-best 5.11, but was disqualified for crossing the centerline while hitting the cones. At the second NHRA race of the season, the Arizona Nationals, Whit qualified #8 with a 5.26/276.83. He lost to Kenji Okazaki's 5.30/268 in the first round, when he lost a motor and the car caught fire. Bazemore brought the car to a stop and he was OK. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, only 17 cars showed so qualifying was relatively easy. Whit qualified on the "bump" with a 9.97/81.54. Unfortunately, that meant that he had to run low qualifier John Force in round one. Whit ran a strong 5.24/261.32, but lost to Force's 5.18/282. Gainesville was the fourth stop on the NHRA schedule and Whit qualified #12 with a 5.40/248.20. He beat Del Worsham in the first round, with a 5.26/262.31. In round two, an off pace 5.50/209.10 lost to Gary Bolger's 5.32/268. The non-points race, the NHRA Winston Invitational, was Bazemore's next stop. He ran a motor-blowing 5.53/198.23 to qualify last in the eight-car field, but the resulting fire from the blown engine did too much damage to the car and he was unable to run in eliminations. The car was repaired and ready for Atlanta and the NHRA Southern Nationals in late April. A 5.24/280.28 qualified #8. In the first round, the motor let go while beating Jim Epler with a 5.33/236.71 and he was unable to return for round two. Mid-May found the Fast Orange team at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals where they qualified #10 with a 5.51/272.14. Whit stepped it up to a 5.40/274.22 to beat Cruz Pedregon's 5.40/276 in the first round. A second round 5.43/269.62 lost to Wyatt Radke's 5.35/281. The following week (May 23), the NHRA tour was at Englishtown for the Mopar Parts Nationals. Whit ran 5.21/280.61 to qualify #7. In the first round, the car broke. The Probe's career came to an end at the NHRA Springnationals. There he had a bad fire and crash that left him with a mild concussion. He was out of a ride until July 10. That was when he first drove Johnny West's car.

Notes: First funny car over 300 MPH and ninth member of the Slick 50 300 MPH Club (including Top Fuel) on October 3/1993, with a 300.40 at Topeka, Ka Epler started the season driving this Daytona at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified #4 with a 5.19/288.46. Unfortunately, in round one, he had a rear slick blow out and damage the car. He crossed the finish with a 5.80/178.25, but lost to Jack Wyatt's 5.52/249. He had the car fixed and was at the NHRA Motorcraft Nationals in Arizona. A 5.24/282.48 qualified #6 and once again he met Wyatt in the first round. This time he had no problems and his 5.41/261.02 beat Wyatt's 5.48/246. Jim took it easy in round two when Gordon Mineo broke and in the semifinals, he advanced with a 25.90-40.76 when his opposition, Al Hofmann, was unable to show after destroying his car while winning his second-round race. This moved Jim into the final against Cruz Pedregon. He was faced with a lot of boos and jeers since he had not made any hard runs in the last two rounds and the crowd was against him for it. In his defense, he was running wounded and was just trying to keep the engine together and through luck, made his way into the final. He lost to Pedregon in the final, but it was not one of his better days as the crowd really got to him. Nothing was said, but his wife wrote a letter to National Dragster explaining their side of the story. Things returned to normal at Houston for the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals. Epler qualified #3 with a career-best (to this point) 5.12/281.77. He smoked the tires in the first round, and shut off to an 8.55/91.95 that lost to Brent Fanning's 5.82/231. The team didn't run very well at the NHRA Gatornationals, qualifying on the "bump" with a 5.50/221.13 and losing to low qualifier Hofmann in round one. Things were even worse at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational. It was an eight-car show and Jim ended up as the third alternate with a 5.61/254.59 best. Epler had no problems qualifying at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. His 5.28/266.11 placed him #9 in the field. Eliminations were a different story as he lost to Whit Bazemore in round one. The sixth race of the season was the NHRA Mid-South Nationals at Memphis. A 5.56/275.31 qualified #12. The Daytona broke in the first round, against Gordie Bonin. More problems kept him out of the show at Englishtown for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals. The best he could run in qualifying was a 9.09/95.90. At the NHRA Springnationals, he was driving the Cutlass bodied car.

Notes: Johnny West, Scott Graham, Mike Lui, and Wyatt Radke started building a new car on November 27, 1992. The team finished it in Jan, the day before Firebird Raceway's Test and Tune event. On the car's first run, Wyatt's first run was an early shutoff to 7.02/127.87. The team only made one other pass at Firebird, an 11.62/79.89. Things went much better at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. A 5.25/284.62 qualified #11, and a shut off 7.20/122.01 advanced past round one when Mark Oswald failed to fire. In the second round, his 5.97/211.86 lost to eventual winner Del Worsham. A week later, they were in Arizona for the NHRA Motorcraft Nationals. Radke qualified #11 again with a 5.45/267.30. He improved to 5.37/284.45 in the first round to beat Oswald's 5.39/217, but a 5.39/233.52 in the second round lost to Del Worsham's 5.25/283. NHRA's next stop was at Houston for the Slick 50 Nationals. There, Wyatt's 5.33/264.31 qualified #10. In round one, an off-pace 5.67/251.32 lost to Al Hofmann's 5.13/281. He was the #14 qualifier at the NHRA Gatornationals with a 5.43/271.82, but he lost to Force in the first round. He got back at Force at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational. It was an eight-car field, and Wyatt's 5.44/263.15 qualified #7. He faced Force in round one, and John smoked the tires while Radke got the win light with a 5.33/240.64. Unfortunately, the Daytona broke in the semifinals against Gordie Bonin. The team made up for it at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, where a 5.27/284.09 qualified #2. He beat Jerry Caminito in the first round, with a 5.49/268.81 and a 5.35/281.33 stopped Whit Bazemore's 5.43/269 in round two. But in the semifinals, old veteran Tom Hoover ran 5.44/256 to end Radke's hopes with a 5.52/271.73. The team skipped the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown but was back on the Springnationals. A 5.142 was low qualifier, Low ET, and a new track record. After qualifying #1 at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals, Radke beat Caminito in the first round, with a 5.32/277.60. A second-round 5.24/279.24 beat Chuck Etchells' close 5.26/282. In the semifinals, he faced Bonin, and Gordie got off the line first, and his 5.31/284 beat Wyatt's quicker 5.30/278.89. At the NHRA Western Nationals, Wyatt's 5.45/265.48 qualified #11. Unfortunately, he lost to Cruz Pedregon in the first round. That was Wyatt's last event in the car. Best times of 5.142/288.18 from Columbus.

Notes: Gary started his season by qualifying #9 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.24/271.65. He lost to Dale Pulde in the first round. The team had trouble at the NHRA Motorcraft Nationals in Arizona, and Gary's best of 6.13/198.89 failed to make the field. Things were much better at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, where a 5.32/251.80 qualified #9. A 5.34/264.78 in the first round, lost to Gordie Bonin's 5.21/289. Bolger had a good showing at the NHRA Gatornationals. He qualified #13 with a 5.41/264.86. A first-round 5.35/262.54 beat Pulde's 5.82/240. In round two, a 5.32/268.57 took out Whit Bazemore's 5.50/209. Unfortunately, he spun the tires in the semifinals and lost to Al Hofmann's 5.17/284. At the NHRA Winston Invitational, Gary had some good luck/bad luck going on. First, he failed to qualify for the eight-car show running a best of 5.54/264.08 for the first alternate. Then Bazemore blew an engine in his already qualified car, and the resulting fire kept him out of eliminations. Bolger took his place in the field and then promptly smoked his tires in his first-round race against Hofmann. Atlanta was NHRA's next stop for the Southern Nationals at the end of April. Gary qualified #11 with a 5.34/272.39. He beat a tire-smoking Del Worsham in the first round with a 5.41/268.89. In round two, his 5.40/264.47 lost to Tom Hoover's 5.28/269. Gary followed the NHRA tour to Memphis for the Mid-South Nationals, where his 5.63/257.65 qualified #14. He improved to 5.39/264.39 in the first round to beat Hofmann's 5.50/269, but the car hurt some parts, and Bolger could not make his second-round race against Hoover. It was then on to Englishtown for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals. A 5.31/269.05 qualified #12, but a better 5.29/266.19 in the first round lost to Cruz Pedregon's 5.14/277. At Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals, Gary qualified #12 with a 5.36/269.29. A 5.41/250.62 in the first round, lost to Hofmann's 5.30/280. Shortly after that, he was at Topeka for the NHRA Western Nationals. He qualified #14 at 5.54/241.61, and a 5.66/237.21 fell to Hofmann's 5.33/281 in the first round. On July 10, he was at Martin, Michigan, for a four-car show. He lost to Bazemore in the final. At Denver, for the NHRA Mile High Nationals, Gary ran 5.61/247.18 to qualify #10. In round one, his 5.68/235.97 lost to John Force's 5.45/266. The following week, the team was at Sonoma for the NHRA California Nationals. Bolger's 5.51/235.41 qualified #12, and in the first round, he lost a blower belt, and his 5.55/214.38 fell to Etchell's 5.47/270. The next stop was in Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals. A 5.30/262.69 qualified #12, and this time his 5.34/268.73 lost to Mark Oswald's 5.21/284 in round one. DNQ for "main show" at Indy. Gary was 18th overall with a best of 5.35/264.00. Qualified 6th for Big Bud Shootout. Lost to Chuck Etchells in round one. Rick Howard photo from 1993 US Nats (Big Bud Shootout), Indy.

Notes: Hoover started his season at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where his 5.22/277.69 qualified #7. Both he and his opponent, Kenji Okazaki, smoked their tires hard in the opening round, and Hoover recovered first with an 8.45/150.72 over Kenji's 11.42. He again smoked the tires in round two and lost to Al Hofmann's 5.16/281. He qualified on the "bump" at the NHRA Arizona Nationals with a 5.73, and he lost to low qualifier Cruz Pedregon in the first round. Tom ran much better at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, where his 5.24/252.24 qualified #7. Wyatt Radke broke against him in the first round, and Tom ran 5.91/150 to advance. In the second round, his 6.07/160 lost to Hofmann's 5.18/285. Tom had another solid season with consistent runs, elimination wins, and an event victory at the Autolite Nationals. His best times of 5.146/291.35 came at the World Finals.

Notes: Worsham qualified #14 at Columbus with a 5.37/275.56. In the opening round, his 5.42/226.98 fell to Cruz Pedregon's 5.28/276. Shortly after that (June 27), he was at Topeka for the NHRA Western Nationals. Unfortunately, he ended up as the second alternate with a 5.69/250.55 best. He did not go to Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals or any other NHRA events until the U.S. Nationals at Indy. There, his 5.288/285.89 qualified #12. He cut a good light in the first round that saw his 5.367/284.36 defeat Gordon Mineo's 5.33/276. Worsham improved to 5.257/287.63 in round two, but it wasn't enough to beat Al Hofmann's 5.17/286. Del's best numbers were 5.179/292.96 on race day at Ennis. He practically lived in the 5-teens and low 5.20s and ran near or over 290 mph everywhere. Notes: Photo from 1993 NHRA Springnationals, Columbus, Ohio. Gary was in Atlanta in April for the NHRA Southern Nationals. His 5.40/270.02 qualified #13; in round one, he picked up to 5.25/275.65, but it came at a loss as Al Hofmann beat him with a 5.24/268. He skipped the NHRA Mid-South Nationals at Memphis but was back on the NHRA tour for the Mopar Nationals at Englishtown. There he qualified #8 with a 5.21/281.42. He beat a troubled Dean Skuza in round one with a 5.79/197.36. He lost to eventual winner John Force in round two. Best times of 5.214/284.53 at Englishtown and Indy, respectively.

Notes: Gary attempted to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but he ended up as the first alternate with a best of 5.57/252.03. He was able to qualify #13 at the NHRA Arizona Nationals, but he hurt his motor on the 5.52/261.87 pass and could not run eliminations. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, he ran 5.34/267.93 to qualify #11. Unfortunately, he had problems against Gordon Mineo in the first round, and shut off to a 7.40/104.28. He did not attend the NHRA Gatornationals or the Winston Invitational at Rockingham, but he was at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. There a 5.24/274.64 qualified #7. In the first round, an off-pace 5.43/246.03 lost to Cruz Pedregon's 5.27/280. He skipped the NHRA Mid-South Nationals at Memphis and the Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown, but he was back on the NHRA tour at Columbus for the Springnationals where Gary ran 5.36/269.94 to qualify #13. Eventual winner Gordie Bonin's 5.27/282 stopped his 5.46/261.47 in the first round. The ninth NHRA race of the season was the Western Nationals, where Densham ran 5.63/252.45 to qualify #15. He picked up to a 5.47/264.08 in the first round, but he again lost to Bonin at 5.40/280. Rick Howard photo from 1993 NHRA US Nats (Big Bud Shootout), Indy. Notes: Gary's first NHRA race of the season was the Springnationals in June. He qualified #6 with a 5.24/269.78. He beat Gary Cellone in the first round, when both ran 5.43 (Gary at 274.39), but Clapshaw got the win light. In round two, Gary was disqualified for taking too long in staging the car for his race against Cruz Pedregon. He followed the NHRA tour to its next event, the Western Nationals. Unfortunately, his best of 5.64/246.91 was good for first alternate. Gary skipped the NHRA Mile High Nationals, but he was at Sonoma for the NHRA California Nationals. A 5.55/266.58 qualified #14. A first-round 5.52/265.01 lost to Mark Oswald's 5.38/267. A week later (August 8), he was at Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals. Gary qualified #15 with a 5.37/282.66. He ran another 5.37 at 280.28 to beat Dale Pulde in the first round, before losing to Gordie Bonin in round two.

Notes: Bob made his fuel Funny Car debut at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. His best of 6.675/136.61 failed to qualify. He really turned some heads when he showed up at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals and qualified #10 with a 5.311/259.33. In the first round, he faced Mark Oswald and Elliott fouled away a 5.331/274.72. He also ran at Indy for the NHRA U.S. Nationals where his 5.319/276.32 qualified #15.In the opening round, his 5.363/274.05 fell to Freddie Neely's 5.20/290. That was Bob's last NHRA national event of the year.

Notes: Jerry qualified on the "bump" at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.57/269.54. Unfortunately, he broke against Cruz Pedregon in the first round. At the NHRA Motorcraft Nationals in Arizona, a 5.56/262.39 qualified #15. He lost to John Force in the first round. Caminito really picked up at the NHRA Supernationals at Houston. There, he ran 5.35/277.60 to qualify #12. In the first round, a good 5.46/275.22 lost to Chuck Etchells' 5.14/286. The next NHRA event was the Gatornationals. Once again, Jerry qualified well, running 5.39/272.31 for the #11 spot in the field. He slowed to a 5.60/258.24 in the first round, which lost to Pedregon's 5.29/280. He did not attend the NHRA Winston Invitational but was in Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. He was on the "bump" with a 5.42/273.72, and he fouled in the first round against low qualifier Etchells. In mid-May, he was at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. Jerry qualified #15 with a 5.75/263.60 but again lost in the first round. This time Wyatt Radke's 5.49/268 beat his 5.63/264.93. He was #15 again at the next NHRA event, the Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown. A 5.37/272.64 got him the spot. In round one, he fell off to a 5.65/196.16 that lost to ETchell's 5.18/281. He lost in the first round at the next NHRA show as well, the Springnationals at National Trail. He qualified on the "bump" with a 5.42/273.47 but lost to low qualifier Radke. I'm sure he was getting sick and tired of losing in the first round, but he was running pretty well to qualify at all these races. At the NHRA Western Nationals at the end of June, he ran 5.45/270.75 to qualify #10, but a 5.58/260.11 lost to Tom Hoover's 5.44/256 in the first round. On July 10, Jerry was at US 131 Martin, Michigan, for a four-car race. He lost to Whit Bazemore in his first race. In the thin mountain air of Denver, Jerry ran 5.74/247.32 to qualify #13 at the NHRA Mile High Nationals. Another 5.74 at 227.50 in the first round, lost to Gordie Bonin's 5.52/265. He failed to qualify for the first time at an NHRA race in '93 at Sonoma for the California Nationals. He was the first alternate with a 5.73/230.41 best. A week later, it happened again; his best of 5.56/257.21 was the first alternate at the NHRA Northwest Nationals. Things had to take a turn, and they did at the next race. A 5.45/248.20 qualified #9 at the NHRA Northstar Nationals, and he finally got past the first round when his 5.41/259.51 beat Kenji Okazaki's 5.59/225. In round two, an even better run of 5.38/273.97 lost to Pedregon's 5.25/284. After that good run, he was hoping for more at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals. Unfortunately, his best of 5.35/274.55 left him as the first alternate for the show. Qualifying wasn't a problem at the NHRA Keystone Nationals at Maple Grove since only sixteen cars showed for the sixteen-car field. Jerry ran a 5.39/269.78 to get the #12 spot in the field. He beat Bazemore in round one, with a 5.42/263.08, but in round two, his 5.54/263.08 lost to Al Hofmann's 5.22/278. At Topeka, his 5.41/268.41 qualified on the "bump" for the NHRA Heartland Nationals. His 5.43/261.78 in the first round lost to low qualifier and eventual winner Etchells' 5.13/290. 1986 McKinney chassis.

Notes: Bruce qualified on the "bump" at the NHRA Western Nationals with a 5.63/257.87. He lost to eventual winner John Force in the first round. At the NHRA Mile High Nationals, he qualified #12 with a 5.71/261.39. A 5.56/257.80 in the first round beat Jim Epler's 5.68/215, but he lost to Gordie Bonin in round two. Nilsen had problems at Sonoma for the NHRA California Nationals, and his best of 6.13/253.23 failed to make the show. A week later (August 8), he qualified on the "bump" at the NHRA Northwest Nationals with a 5.462/269.38. He lost to Cruz Pedregon's 5.25/280 in the first round, with a 5.64/260.64. Qualifying wasn't a problem at the NHRA Northstar Nationals, as only fifteen cars showed for the sixteen-car field. Still, Bruce ran 5.59/268.31 to qualify #11 for the show. Unfortunately, he fouled in the first round against Gary Densham.
