Notes: Chuck didn't race at the first two NHRA events of '92, but he was at Houston for the Slick 50 Nationals. He debuted his new sponsor, Nobody Beats the Wiz. His associate sponsors included Snap-On Tools, Mopar Performance, and Mothers. Other major sponsors included Superwinch and Kendall GT-1. At Houston, his 5.37/276.58 qualified #9 for the show. In the first round, an even better 5.26/272.47 lost to a quicker, leaving Cruz Pedregon at 5.29/252. Cruz would go on to win his first win in NHRA Funny Car competition. Etchells then went to Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. He qualified #5 with a 5.28/274.55. A first-round 5.23/281.60 beat Tom Hoover, but he again fell to a Pedregon holeshot in round two. This time Cruz's 5.21/285 stopped his 5.17/281.77. The next stop was at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational. It was an eight-car show, and Chuck's 5.35/272.89 qualified #4. He beat Paul Smith in the opening round with a 5.37/273.05, and a semifinal 5.40/261.02 beat Freddie Neely. He faced Mark Oswald in the final, and Etchells slowed to 5.50/235.23 in a runner-up finish to Oswald's 5.33/279. NHRA's next race was the Southern Nationals at Atlanta. A 5.27/270.75 qualified #5 and another 5.27 at 266.35 beat a tire-smoking Jim Epler in the first round. In the second round, Oswald broke a rear end, and Etchells' 5.30/273.30 advanced. In the semifinals, eventual winner John Force ran 5.22/265 to beat his 5.31/251.53. The NHRA Mid-South Nationals at Memphis was next on the calendar, and Chuck's 5.35/274.64 qualified #7. He beat Hoover in round one, with a 5.37/275.48, but he lost to Al Hofmann in round two. At NHRA's seventh race of the season, the Springnationals at Columbus, Etchells grabbed his first pole of the year with a 5.23/279.85. He continued to look tough in the first round, where his 5.26/275.56 beat Gary Litton. In round two, he beat Whit Bazemore with a 5.28/271.16. But in the semifinals, he lost a close race with Hofmann. Etchells' quicker 5.26/278.89 lost to Al's 5.28/273. He followed the NHRA tour to Canada for the Grandnationals, where he ran 5.51/259.59 to qualify #8. Unfortunately, in the opening round, an off-pace 5.93/197.32 lost to Del Worsham's 5.64/266. |

Notes: Rick Howard qualifying photo from 1992 NHRA SpringNats, Columbus. Same car from 1991. Gary made one of the most impressive runs of "ANYBODY" in '92 with a 5.11 blast at Ennis, TX. | Gary started the season by qualifying #12 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.41/263.00. He lost to Al Hofmann in the first round. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, a 5.44/256.99 qualified #8. Another 5.44/262.00 in the first round, lost to eventual winner Tom Hoover's career-best 5.26/273. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, he qualified #12 with a 5.43/266.27. A tire-smoking 5.90/174.41 in the first round, lost to Hofmann's 5.30/272. Gainesville saw him run 5.48/267.61 to qualify #15 for the NHRA Gatornationals. Gary stepped up to a career-best (to this point) of 5.23/275.39 to beat Hofmann in the first round. In the second round, both he and Mark Oswald smoked the tires, but Bolger recovered first to win with a 6.03/162.19. A strong 5.27/273.80 in the semifinals lost to Jim Epler's 5.22/270. The fifth NHRA event of the season was the Southern Nationals at Atlanta. Gary ran 5.48/265.33 to qualify #15. Unfortunately, he smoked the tires in the first round, and lost to Gary Densham's 5.57/265. After that, it was off to Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. Gary qualified #12 with a 5.57/265.87. He lost in the first round, to Del Worsham. In mid-June, Bolger was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. Once again, he lost in the first round, this time to Gordon Mineo. He qualified #12 with a 5.56/269.38. At the end of June, he traveled up north to Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals. He got his best qualifying spot of the year when he ran 5.38/271.24 to qualify #4. In his first-round race, opponent Dale Barlet crossed the centerline, and Gary had troubles and could only muster a 6.39/239.17. The trouble was terminal, and he was unable to run Oswald in the second round. Englishtown hosted the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals in July. Gary qualified #13 with a 5.59/245.56. In the first round, he broke a blower drive and lost to Chuck Etchells. The tenth race of the NHRA season was the Mile High Nationals in Denver. Gary ran 5.55/256.62 to qualify #8, but he lost to Whit Bazemore in round one. |

Notes: Al qualified #5 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.30/280.28. In the first round, he beat Gary Bolger with a 5.28/273.97. In round two, he ran a 5.30/277.52 but lost to Jim Epler's 5.27/272. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, Hofmann continued to qualify well, running a 5.38/265.56 for the #7 spot. However, he lost in the first round, to Gary Densham. The next race on the NHRA schedule was at Houston for the Supernationals, where he qualified #5 with a 5.29/271.90. He made it into the semifinals by beating Bolger in the first round, with a 5.30/272.14, and in round two, a 5.28/273.30 beat Del Worsham. In the semis, a 5.23/273.30 finished second best to Cruz Pedregon's track record 5.10/272. A 5.25/277.17 qualified #2 at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, but in the first round, he smoked the tires to a 10.31/74.14 loss to Bolger's 5.23/275. Rockingham hosted the NHRA Winston Invitational in April. Al qualified for the eight-car show with a 5.31/277.09. In round one, he beat Whit Bazemore's 5.45/270 with a 5.34/271.65. In the semifinals, both he and Mark Oswald ran 5.40 (Al at 272), but Mark got the win. At Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, he qualified #9 with a 5.38/276.66. He really stepped it up for the first-round, running a 5.22/281.25, but that wasn't good enough to advance, as John Force ran a 5.19/269 to get the win. Al was smiling after the next NHRA race, as he won the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. He qualified #2 with a 5.30/280.37 and improved to a 5.25/273.14 in winning his first-round race over Jerry Caminito's 5.67/231. In the second round, another 5.30 at 273.97 beat Chuck Etchells, and in the semifinals, a 5.38/274.22 beat a motor blowing Force at 5.41/269. He met Bazemore in the final, and Whit smoked the tires while Hofmann recorded a 5.40/279.67 victory. He repeated at the very next race, winning the NHRA Springnationals to make it two in a row. There he ran 5.29/275.65 to qualify #4. A first-round 5.35/273.14 beat Norm Wilding, and in round two, a 5.31/274.47 advanced when Gordon Mineo fouled. Al was sharp on the tree in the semifinals when his 5.28/273.22 took out Etchells' quicker 5.26/278. A final round 5.31 at only 263.31 got the win when Pedregon fouled. He almost made it three in a row when he made it into the finals at the NHRA Grandnationals in Canada. Al qualified on the pole with a 5.34 (Low ET) at 274.22. He advanced past the first-round with a 5.45/270.67 when Troy Ray broke. In round two, a 5.43/266.50 stopped Worsham's 5.58/272, and in the semifinals, a 5.41/263.85 beat Mark Oswald's off pace 5.84/196. In the final, he ran Force, and John's 5.34/278 got the victory over Al's 5.42/264.70. His luck ran out at the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown. He didn't run badly there; he just didn't make it into another final. A 5.24/264.08 qualified #3, and he ran a strong 5.21/277.86 in the first round, to beat R.C. Sherman, but in round two, he smoked the tires and lost to Worsham's 5.32/277. |

Notes: Won Winston Invitational in 1992. Made history in round one at Ennis, when Mark Oswald powered to the best Funny Car speed ever, 5.163/293.06, in beating Dale Pulde. Mark also went 5.161 at Seattle and 5.188/290.79 at Maple Grove. We think he drove the Petosa Bros. car exclusively starting in Gainesville (he definitely drove it there). The team qualified well at every event but suffered terrible consistency problems on race day, leaving them first or second-round losers for most of the year. We need to confirm that he did not run the In-N-Out Cutlass at any of the other late-season NHRA events. |

Notes: Gordon was at Pomona for the season-opening NHRA Winternationals, where he ran 5.44/272.72 to qualify #15. He lost to Cruz Pedregon in the first round. Mineo skipped the second NHRA event of the season, the Arizona Nationals, but he was back on tour at Houston for the Supernationals. He qualified #7 with a 5.31/282.57 and a first-round 5.33/276.92, taking out Gary Clapshaw's 5.37/267. In the second round, a 5.37/248.41 advanced over Jerry Caminito. In the semifinal, his 5.34/250.20 beat Tom Hoover's off pace 5.78/183. In the final, he faced another first-time finalist in Cruz Pedregon. Unfortunately, Gordon had problems and shut off to a 17.43/54.59 loss to Pedregon's 5.14/284. The next NHRA event was the Gatornationals on March 22. A 5.38/283.37 qualified #10, but Mark Oswald's 5.24/283 in the first round beat his 5.40/252.52. Atlanta was the next stop for the NHRA Southern Nationals. Once again, Gordon had little trouble qualifying, running a 5.31/246.64 for the #7 spot. In the first round, his 5.42/209.71 fell to Paul Smith's 5.33/236. At Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, Mineo opened some eyes when he qualified #3 with a 5.31/283.55 (Top Speed). He improved to a Low ET of the meet 5.24 at 259.59 in the first round while beating Gary Litton. In the second round, he slowed to a 5.46/266.19 that lost to John Force's 5.43/271. He qualified #5 with a 5.32/280.46 at the NHRA Springnationals. A 5.43/268.97 got past Gary Bolger in the first round, but in round two, he fouled away a 5.48/272.31 against Hofmann's 5.31/274. Mineo did not follow the tour to Canada for the Grandnationals, but he was at Englishtown for NHRA's ninth race of the season, the Summernationals. He qualified #5 with a 5.25/284.36 and a first-round 5.34/262.31 beat Caminito, but he was again stopped in round two. This time Chuck Etchells got him with a 5.25/277 beating Mineo's 5.44/236.65. Gordon had a great year with 5.20s at 280 plus at many events, including best times of 5.172 at the Finals and 285.35 at Indy. He was runner up at the 1992 Houston Supernationals and the low qualifier at Sonoma in 1992. |

Notes: The British import had a very creditable 1992 NHRA season, qualifying almost everywhere and running strong DNQ efforts when he didn't make the fields. His 5.414 on the bump spot at Ennis 1992 made it the second-quickest Funny Car field in history. He ran a ridiculously quick 5.17 at Topeka. Norm qualified #15 at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals with a 5.82/223.21. In the opening round of eliminations, his 5.58/251.67 lost to John Force's 5.31/278. Shortly after that, he was at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. His 5.63/243.96 qualified #11. Unfortunately, he lost to Tom Hoover in the first round. |

Notes: Dale drove Joe Pisano's car to the pole with a 5.19/273.97 at the NHRA Winternationals. His other two runs in qualifying were 5.21/270.43 and 5.46/273.05. All Dale needed to win his first-round race was a 9.55/78.28 when Jim Dunn broke. Best NHRA times were the 5.190 at the Winters and 280.54 at the finals. |

Notes: Worsham started the season by qualifying #9 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.36/284.18. A 5.31/284.81 in round one, beat Gary Densham's 5.44/249, but in round two, his 5.47/254.30 lost to Dale Pulde's 5.29/262. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, his 5.37/279.93 qualified #6. Unfortunately, he lost to Richard Hartman in round one. Houston was NHRA's next stop for the Supernationals. Del's 5.29/280.02 qualified #4. Paul Smith broke against him in the first round, and Del advanced with a 5.27/280.28. In round two, he lost to Al Hofmann. Worsham's next stop was at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. He ran 5.68/254.30 to qualify #3 in the eight-car field. A 5.72/240.77 in round one, advanced when Paula Martin's Probe broke. In the semifinals, his 5.66/261.39 (Top Speed) beat Freddie Neely's 5.80/247. This put him into the final against Tom Hoover. This became an expensive pass for Del. About 700 feet into the run, the crankshaft broke. This caused a massive fireball. The engine explosion was so bad that it bent the upper main frame rail. The only thing holding the remains of the JP-1 in the car was the oil lines. Del was OK, but the car was totaled. Del recovered to have a pretty good NHRA national event season. He was runner up at Atlanta, Englishtown, and Indy and made it to round 3 at Memphis and Denver. He Ran NHRA best times of 5.194/286.89 at Ennis Fall, but he practically lived in the low 5.20s at 280 plus for the second half of the season. He set Top Speed at Sonoma at 280.89. |

Notes: Won NHRA Winternats in 1992 (fifth race on nitro). Photo from 1992 Winternationals. Jim drove Jim West's car and his own in 1992. We need to confirm which car ran which event. Check DragStats for best times after this is determined. | Jim qualified #4 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.23/275.73. He went on to win the event by running steady 5.2's and then taking on John Force in the final. His final round 5.26/273.80, beat Force's 5.32/275. At NHRA's second race of the season, the Arizona Nationals, Jim qualified #2 with a 5.28/271.90. A first-round 5.32/268.41 beat Gary Clapshaw, but he slowed to a 5.40/268.17 in round two that lost to Gary Densham's holeshot aided 5.43/267. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals. Jim again qualified well, ripping off a 5.22/272.72 for the #2 spot. Unfortunately, he lost to Jerry Caminito in the first round. Jim made it into another final round at the NHRA Gatornationals. He qualified #3 with a 5.25/275.81, and in the first round, he smoked the tires to a 6.02/167.09 but still won when Caminito smoked his tires even worse to a 6.69/140. In round two, he improved to a 5.20/279.85 to beat Paul Smith. In the semifinals, another consistent 5.22/270.51 beat Gary Bolger's 5.27/273 to advance into the final. Once again, he faced Force in the final, but their roles were reversed from the Winternationals. Here John set Low ET and Top Speed at 5.15/289 in the final to stop Jim's 5.27/275.39. These runs were all made with Epler's own car. Set Top Speed at Denver at 273.72. |

Notes: Started the year in Permatex livery. Changed to Fast Orange. First career NHRA final round at Memphis, TN '92. Curt Swartz photo from Bristol, TN, 1992. | Whit qualified #10 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.39/264.78. He could not run in eliminations, and the first alternate, Mark Sievers, took his place in the field. A 5.56/261.24 qualified #14 at the NHRA Arizona Nationals. In the first round, a troubled 6.67/147.14 got around an equally troubled Dale Pulde. He lost to Richard Hartman in round two. Houston held the third NHRA event of the season, the Supernationals, where Bazemore ran 5.37/263.92 to qualify #11. An off pace 5.78/178.42 lost to Tom Hoover's 5.72/193. He then went to Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals on March 15. He qualified #5 in the eight-car show with a 5.82/233.10. In the first round, he and Hoover ran 5.62 (Whit at 255.10), with Tom winning. |

Notes: Tom debuted a new Daytona at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. He had lots of problems and ended up losing two blowers, one in qualifying, and one in a first-round loss against Del Worsham. He qualified #11 with a 5.39/269.92. He went to Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals where he ran 5.43/272.72 to qualify #10. He lost to Chuck Etchells in the first round. At the seventh NHRA race of the '92 season, he was in Ohio for the Springnationals where a 5.40/256.04 qualified #7. He picked up to a 5.33 at 255.97 to beat Jerry Caminito's 5.59/252 in the first round, but in the second round, he lost to Cruz Pedregon. He made the trip up north for the NHRA Grandnationals at the end of June. He qualified #7 with a 5.44/267.45 and a first-round 5.55/249.03 beat a tire smoking Gary Densham. Once again, he lost to Pedregon in the second round. Tom's 5.46/256.04 finished second best to Cruz's 5.39/274. This started to become routine when at Englishtown for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals, he qualified #8 with a 5.33/264.62 and in round one, beat Whit Bazemore's 5.56/263 with a 5.36/258.32. But once again in round two for the third straight race he came up against Pedregon. This time Hoover lost oil pressure on the line and shut off giving Cruz a solo into the semifinals. At Denver in the middle of July for the NHRA Mile High Nationals, Tom again made it into the second round. He qualified #6 with a 5.44/257.28 and then improved to a 5.37/265.56 in the first round, while beating Norm Wilding. But in the second round, his 5.57/229.06 lost to Al Hofmann's 5.41/262. |

Notes: Gary ran a career-best (to this point) 5.33/265.25 to qualify #8 at Pomona for the Winternationals. He lost to Del Worsham in the first round. He qualified #10 at the Arizona Nationals with a 5.50/267.69. He picked up to a 5.36/271.73 in the first round, to beat Al Hofmann, and in round two, his 5.43/267.37 beat Jim Epler's quicker 5.40/268. In the semifinals, he slowed to a 5.88/254.38 that lost to Richard Hartman's 5.85/209. He followed the NHRA tour to Houston for the Supernationals, but he had problems and could only muster a 6.77/138.71 non-qualifying bid. He made the show at the NHRA Gatornationals, qualifying on the "bump" with a 5.49/268.33, but lost to low qualifier John Force in round one. Densham opened some eyes at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals when he ran 5.25/275.90 to qualify #2. He beat a tire-smoking Gary Bolger in the first round, with a 5.57/265.01. In round two, his 5.43/265.25 beat Paul Smith, but in the semifinals, he ran an off pace 6.04/164.17 that lost to Worsham's 5.35/277. Rick Howard photo from 1992 NHRA Oldsmobile Springnats, Columbus. Qualified 14th at 5.63/263.54. Gary lost to John Force (photo) in round one. The Atlanta times were Gary's best times in a good year. |

Notes: Won emotional NHRA Ford Nats '92 (first NHRA national event win since 1979) just weeks after "Ma" Hoover passed away. Photo from 1992 US Nationals. | Hoover qualified #14 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.42/273.72. He lost to John Force in the first round. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, he qualified #9 with a 5.47/272.47. He picked up to a career best (to this point) of 5.26 at 273.05 in the first round, to beat Gary Bolger's 5.44/262. Another strong pass of 5.32/259.14 beat John Force's 5.46/271. In the semifinals, he beat Johnny West with a 5.34/265.87 to go into the final against Richard Hartman. Once again he made a strong run, clocking a 5.27/263.46 for his third career NHRA National event win over a tire smoking Hartman. It was Tom's first win since the '79 Winternationals, and it came just a month after his mother had passed away from heart disease. Hoover went on to Houston for the NHRA Supernationals where he ran 5.30/253.80 to qualify #6. A first-round 5.72/193.25 beat Whit Bazemore's 5.78/178. In round two, he advanced with a 5.35/238.98 when Hartman fouled. In the semifinals, his 5.78/183.18 lost to Gordon Mineo's 5.34/250. He then went to Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. It was an eight-car show and he qualified #4 with a 5.79/228.42. He worked his way into the final by beating Whit Bazemore in the first round, (both ran 5.62, Tom at 261.32), and Paul Smith in the semifinals with a 5.58/260.19. In the final, he stopped Del Worsham for the victory with a 5.66/249.58. Next stop was Gainesville the following week (March 22) for the NHRA Gatornationals. Things didn't go so well there as he lost in the first round, to Chuck Etchells after qualifying #12 with a 5.39/271.98. He debuted his new Dodge Daytona at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. |

Notes: Mark drove this car at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified #7 with a 5.310/280.63. In the first round, both he and his opponent Mark Sievers smoked the tires, and Oswald's 7.469/155.84 lost to Sievers' 6.93/213. The "In-N-Out" crew then ran the car at the NHRA Arizona Nationals. A 5.357/274.72 qualified #5. Once again, he lost in the first round, this time to Johnny West, 5.59/267 to 6.817/137.88. They then went to Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, where Mark qualified the car #3 with a 5.266/281.60. But the first-round "blues" got him when he lost to Richard Hartman, 5.47/277 to 7.607/113.20. The team went to Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals and qualified #2 with a 5.55/226.47, but the jinx persisted, and his first-round 5.84/243.50 lost to Freddie Neely's 5.81/251. Mark drove the In-n-Out car & Petosa Bros. Daytona, switching back & forth for 1992. He was in the Daytona at Gainesville, and we think he drove that car at all remaining NHRA national event appearances (need confirmation). The team came out with a new body during IHRA Springnationals but blew it off on its first run, which was also its last run. Fans carried off large portions of it as souvenirs. Notes: Photo from 1992 Winternationals. Richard qualified #13 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.41/279.24. The speed was a career-best for him at the time. A first-round 5.51/249.51 lost to Jim Epler's 5.29/261. A 5.51/274.22 qualified #11 at the NHRA Arizona Nationals, and in round one, he beat Del Worsham with a 5.43/276.58. He got past Whit Bazemore in round two with a 5.63/271.98. In the semifinals, he ran and beat Gary Densham's 5.88/254 with a 5.85/209.35 as both cars had traction problems. Hartman again went up in smoke in the final, and his 8.63/95.91 finished runner-up to Tom Hoover's 5.27/263. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, he qualified #14 with a 5.51/274.30. He beat Mark Oswald in the first round, with a 5.47/277.69, but in the second round, he fouled away a 5.48/241.67 to lose to Hoover's 5.35/193. |

I know RC Ran some national Events as well. Notes: Photo from 1992 IHRA Winter Nationals. | Paula did not attend the NHRA Winternationals, but she showed up at NHRA's second race, the Arizona Nationals, on February 23. Her 5.71/264.70 best was good for the second alternate spot. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, Paula qualified on the "bump" with a 5.53/256.11. A first-round 5.43/258.39 lost to low qualifier John Force's 5.15/273. At Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals, she ran a 5.94/195.31 to qualify #6 in the eight-car field. Unfortunately, the Probe broke on the line against Del Worsham in the first round. The following week (March 22), Paula qualified #13 at the NHRA Gatornationals with a 5.39/266.50. She ran a career-best (to this point) 5.37/271.08 in the first round, but it wasn't enough as she lost to Cruz Pedregon's 5.20/285. |

Notes: Jerry left to go to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. But his transporter blew a transmission, and he had to wait for someone to come out and install a new one. After heading back out, the new trans also broke, so the truck had to get towed to a shop. Once again, he started on down the road only to have the rear end break. A whole rear end had to be installed. Thinking that that had to be it, he again started driving only to have the pinion support bearing burn out. After repairing that, he finally arrived at Pomona at 3 pm. Wednesday. There he qualified #11 with a 5.40/271.41. A 5.42/274.72 beat Gary Clapshaw's 5.57/248. He lost to John Force's track record 5.18 at 281 in round two with an off pace 6.12/173.04. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, he ran 5.53/262.92 to qualify #13 but lost to Cruz Pedregon in the first round. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, he made the field with a 5.51/254.30 for the #15 spot. He picked up to a 5.46/244.89 in the first round, that beat Jim Epler. In the second round, he lost to Gordon Mineo. His next stop was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. A 5.46/268.81 qualified #14, but his off pace 6.69/140.38 lost to Jim Epler in the first round. Unfortunately, Jerry's best of 5.58/263.85 failed to qualify (second alternate) at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. He did better at Memphis, where a 5.75/243.17 qualified #15 for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. Jerry improved to a 5.67/231.18 in the first round, but it wasn't enough to beat Al Hofmann's 5.25/273. He was at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals at the end of May. He qualified #8 in the eight-car field with a 6.31/210.37. He lost a close first-round race with low qualifier Del Worsham when his 5.64/267.93 narrowly lost to Del's 5.61/265. Caminito's next appearance was at the NHRA Springnationals. He qualified #10 with a 5.47/269.94. In round on his 5.59/252.03 lost to Tom Hoover's 5.33/255. He followed the NHRA tour to Canada for the Grandnationals, where he qualified #11 with a 5.61/263.77. In round one, he beat Paul Smith's 5.66/224 with a 5.64/266.03. In round two, his 5.67/244.23 lost to eventual winner Force's 5.41/274. Jerry ran at the IHRA Empire Nationals on July 5, where he qualified #6 in the eight-car show with a 6.00/250.13. A 6.02/241.41 beat Norm Wilding's 6.29/235 in the first round, while in the semifinals, he had problems and slowed to 9.58/89.10 in a loss to Worsham's 5.76/260. The ninth NHRA race of the season was the Summernationals at Englishtown. Caminito qualified #12 for the show with a 5.52/273.63. He lost in round one, to Mineo. The next stop was at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. Jerry made the show with a 5.68/256.19 (#13), but in the first round, the Cutlass broke, advancing Epler into round two.86 McKinney chassis. Curt Swartz photo from Bristol, TN, 1992. |

Notes: Bump spot at 92 Winters with 5.457. Photo from 1992 Winternationals. His speed on the 5.45 was 273.55; unfortunately, he broke in the first round, against low qualifier Dale Pulde in Joe Pisano's car. |

Notes: Photo from 1992 Winternationals. | Ron attempted to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but his 6.102/208.09 best was good for the fourth alternate spot. He did make the field at the NHRA Arizona Nationals where his 5.638/248.20 qualified on the "bump spot." A first-round 5.85/210.62 lost to John Force's 5.33/277. Ron ran some nice times at NHRA national events this year. Best ET for the year at Seattle at 5.478 (232.73) to qualify #14. He shut off to a 13-second loss to Cruz Pedregon in round one. He then ran a 5.609/241.28 DNQ at the Pomona World Finals. |
