Notes: Gary qualified last in the eight-car field at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals with a 6.04/210. In the first round, his car was ailing, and as he was only able to run 11.74, which lost to Paul Smith's 5.78. Litton qualified #14 at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals with a 5.48/268.09. He lost an engine in the first round, and fell to Whit Bazemore. At Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals at the end of May, a 6.29/171.55 qualified #7 in the eight-car show. He picked up to a 5.69/244.76 in the first round, but it wasn't enough to beat Smith's 5.47/268. After that, he went to Memphis for NHRA's Mid-South Nationals. Gary ran 5.74/201.97 to qualify #14, but he lost to Gordon Mineo in the first round. He qualified on the "bump" at the NHRA Springnationals with a 5.81. Notes: Mark attempted to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals but ended up as the first alternate with a best of 5.504/267.30. But Mark got into the show as an alternate and upset Mark Oswald in round one, 6.932/213.98 to 7.469/155.84. He then upset a broken Cruz Pedregon in round two with a 9.102/89.47. He broke against John Force in the semis. Mark went to Phoenix for the NHRA Arizona National, where, once again, he was the first alternate with a 5.658/263.46 best. The team was the sixth alternate at Ennis with a troubled 8.052/107.30. They wrapped up the year at the NHRA Finals but did not improve, finishing as the tenth alternate at 11.392/80.38. Notes: Bob attempted to qualify at the IHRA Springnationals at Bristol, but his best of 6.91/164.59 failed to qualify. As it turned out, he got into the field when Mark Oswald lost a motor and tore up his Firebird body in qualifying and was unable to run eliminations. Gilbertson picked up to a 5.88/219.56 in the first round, to beat Wyatt Radke. In the semifinals he picked up even more to a 5.84/221.67, but lost to eventual winner Del Worsham's 5.55/261. He won the IHRA Summernationals at Cayuga on June 21. He qualified #3 with a 5.90/251.32. He worked his way into the final where his 5.64/253.73 beat Worsham's 5.74/262 for the title.

Notes: The first 290 mph Funny Car in the sport at Ennis 1991 with a 290.13 blast. Wes Cerny's 290 mph tuning skills on this car caught the attention of Kenny Bernstein, who hired him for the 1992 season, resulting in the sport's first 300 mph run. Photo from Indy 1991. | Jim qualified #1 at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals with track records of 5.25/278.63. The team was running a new engine set-up that used Leonard Hughes cylinder heads with Wes Cerny's tune up. They actually qualified with their "old" engine and switched to the "new" combination for eliminations. A first-round 5.39/277.26 stopped Gary Litton's 5.58/259. In round two, Dominic Santucci lost to White's 5.36/273.63 and a semifinal 5.33/272.89 beat Mark Oswald, who smoked the tires and shut off. He faced Mike Dunn in the final. Their times in eliminations had been close, but White's 5.39/263.77 finished second best to Dunn's 5.34/275. The "Hawaiian" team followed the NHRA tour to Canada for the Grandnationals where, once again, Jim qualified #1 with track records of 5.34/274.72. The field was short, so White got the "odd-lot" solo in the first round, and ran 5.35/274.72 (again!) He was flexing the car's power as that was easily Low ET of the opening round. In round two, he downed Ed McCulloch with a 5.41/255.39 and a semifinal 5.44/270.83 beat Al Hofmann, whose car broke an A-arm on the run. He came up against John Force in the final. White had been running a tenth faster than Force. Jim got the victory with a 5.54/271.90 when Force tried to match the "Hawaiian's" times and put too much power into it and smoked the tires. Jim continued to set track records at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. His 5.18 track record at 280.19 (Top Speed) qualified #1 for the third straight NHRA event. An opening round 5.39/273.47 beat Gary Bolger's 5.53/261 and a 5.38/276.66 beat Santucci's close 5.38/272 in round two. But in the semifinals, White blew an engine and slowed to a 5.70/193.88, losing to eventual winner Del Worsham's 5.37/272. The team's combination didn't work quite as well at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. Jim’s 5.50/263.00 qualified #4 and he was upset in the first round, when Richard Hartman's 5.71/255 got the better of his 5.74/249.30. Jim's 291.82 at the World Finals was the Top Speed of the entire meet, including the Top Fuelers.

Notes: Mike qualified #4 at Pomona with a 5.39/266.82. In the opening round, his 5.44/251.53 beat Tom Hoover's 5.51/269. He then beat Al Hofmann in round two with a 5.46/263.92. Low qualifier Glenn Mikres stopped him in the semi-final with a 5.28/284 to his 5.39/266.98. He qualified #5 at the NHRA Arizona Nationals with a 5.38/266.50. He beat Jerry Caminito in round one and got some "revenge" on Mikres in round two, where his 5.36/274 defeated Glenn's 5.35/280. But he lost in the semi-final, where another 5.36 at 263 fell to John Force's 5.30/270. The next stop was at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals. Mike's 5.33/270.51 qualified #6. He beat Hofmann in round one, and a 5.46/251.39 in round two lost to Ed McCulloch's 5.30/278. Shortly after that, he was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. A 5.31/271.98 qualified #4. Gary Densham lost to his 5.36/261.62 in round one. In the second round, Dunn's 5.34/264.93 dropped Mikres' 5.49/266. He had a close race against Mark Oswald in the semi-final that saw both drivers run 5.38 (Dunn at 269.62), but eventual winner Oswald got the "win" light. The team then went to Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational. It was just an eight-car field, and Mike qualified #3 with a 5.37/271.00. Oswald stopped him again, this time in round one, where Mike's 5.52/264.23 lost to Mark's 5.38/249. He was a little "off pace" at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. He "only" qualified #9 at 5.36/271.49. He beat Hofmann in round one before losing to Force in round two. He made up for it by winning the NHRA Mid-South Nationals held at Memphis in the first week of May. He had qualified #3 with a 5.31/273.97. A 5.35/269.86 beat Freddie Neely, followed by a 5.36/276.07 over Caminito's 5.59/258. In the semi-final, he defeated Jim White driving the "Hawaiian" with a 5.33. He faced Tom Hoover in the final, and Hoover had been running 5.4s. Mike picked up to a 5.30/275.31 in the final to claim the victory over Tom's 5.71/215. He then doubled it up by winning the NHRA Springnationals at Columbus. His 5.28/273.39 qualified second to White's 5.25/278. These two would work their way into the final together. He beat Mark Oswald in the first round, with a 5.50/274.55 and a second-round 5.45/273.63 beat Jim White's 5.50/272 in the "Hawaiian." But in the semifinals, his 5.41/273.22 lost to eventual winner John Force's 5.31/272. He qualified #3 with a 5.33/274.64 at the NHRA Arizona Nationals, and an opening-round 5.27/282.57 stopped Jim Murphy. But he smoked the tires in round two and lost to Del Worsham. He ran really well at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals. A 5.28/282.39 qualified #3, and he beat Gary Densham in round one. In round two, Mike Dunn's 5.46/251 lost to Ed's 5.30/278.29. He fell off to 5.40/276.32 in the semifinals, but it was still enough to beat Oswald. He faced Force in the final for the money. Unfortunately, McCulloch smoked the tires and shut off to 6.11/159.37 while John picked up the win with a 5.21/278. Ed continued to qualify well at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. There, a 5.29/272.06 got the #3 spot. He beat Gary Bolger in round one, with a 5.40/270.43, but he lost to Tom Hoover in the second round. Atlanta was the next stop on the NHRA tour for the Southern Nationals. Once again, Ed qualified #3, this time with a 5.31/276.24. He beat Freddie Neely in round one before smoking the tires and losing to White in round two. At Memphis, for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, Ed slipped to #4 in qualifying with a 5.32/276.07. In the first round, Paula Martin lost an engine against him, and Ed advanced with a 5.54/256.70. A second round 5.52/267.77 beat Al Hofmann. But 5.5s were not going to get the job done, and, in the semifinal, Ed's 5.56/273.05 lost to Hoover's 5.48. The seventh race of the season was the NHRA Springnationals at Columbus. McCulloch returned to his #3 qualifying spot with a 5.34/272.06. He beat Murphy in round one, with a 5.48/271.73, but a round two 5.41/259.44 lost to Force's 5.35/267. He followed the tour to Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals, where he "only" qualified #7 with a 5.48/265.01. In the opening round, he beat Martin's 5.69/245 with a 5.57/258.69, but he lost to eventual winner White in round two. He then made a stop at Kansas City International for its Summernationals. Ed set Low ET there at 5.62, and he reached the final against Force. The two had a good race, but John's 5.68/261 beat Ed's late leaving 5.65/257.50. Back on the NHRA trail at Englishtown for the Summernationals. McCulloch ran 5.26/271.82 to qualify #4. He stopped Martin again in round one, with a 5.40/266.58. But a second-round 5.47/263.08 lost to Worsham's 5.34/272. Worsham would go on to win the race. McCulloch was way overdue for a win. It almost came at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. He set Low ET in qualifying #1 with a 5.43. His speed on the run was 257.80. He beat rookie Len Seroka in round one, with a 5.82/252.31, and a second-round 5.55/256.19 beat Densham's 5.69/218. In the semifinals, his 5.59/257.14 trailered Hofmann at 5.76/253. This put Ed in his second NHRA final of the year. He faced Mike Dunn, who had been running just about a tenth quicker than Ed was throughout eliminations. Sure enough, Mike's 5.47/257 got the victory over Ed, who tried to make up the difference and fouled away a 5.54/255.82. Ed's best NHRA times were 5.237 from Maple Grove and the 282.57 from Phoenix.

But he got around low qualified Jim White and in round two his 10.66/71.63 advanced when Richard Hartman broke. In the semifinals, he ran 5.40/267.61, but lost to eventual winner Force's 5.32/270. The next NHRA event was the Gatornationals where Chuck qualified #9. He lost to Mark Oswald in the first round.

Notes: Al started the season by qualifying #5 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.43/267.77. In the first round, he improved to a 5.36/270.92 to beat Jim Epler's 5.46/255. But in round two, he lost to Mike Dunn. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, a 5.44/267.45 qualified #8. He lost early there. Another early loss came at the NHRA Supernationals at Houston. Notes: Glenn qualified #1 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.33. He made his way into the final by having a first-round tire smoking battle with Wyatt Radke that he won with a 7.89/220.53 to Wyatt's 8.07/106. In the second round, another 5.33 at 279.24 beat Richard Hartman's 5.50/272 and in the semifinals, he set Low ET and Top Speed with a 5.289/284.00 that beat Mike Dunn's 5.39/266. In the finals he ran John Force and Glenn had problems and slowed to a 5.87/182.70 that finished runner-up to Force's 5.31/239. Glenn lost to Mike Dunn in the second round at the NHRA Arizona Nationals where his 5.35/280 lost to Mike's 5.36/274. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, a 5.30 qualified #5, but he again lost in round two. This time his 5.35/285.26 lost to Force's 5.27/275. Earlier, Mikres had set Top Speed of the meet at 286.25. The team didn't qualify as well at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals only getting the #12 spot in the field, but Glenn beat Jerry Caminito's 5.85/197 in the first round, with a 5.42/261.62. A second round 5.49/266.82 lost to Mike Dunn's 5.34/264. Best NHRA times were the 5.289/286.25.
