On Mar. 21 at Chandler he set a new track record for A/R with 133.92 mph. He towed his roadster to Santa Ana for the Gold Cup races on Apr. 19. He set a new track record for A/R with 11.00 at 138.46 mph. He became the first racer to top 140 mph in the A/R class at Las Vegas. At Chandler on May 24, he took an A/R class win with 10.94 at 134.32 mph. On Oct. 3 at the Phoenix Drag Strip, he turned 136.98 in the A/Altered Roadster class, a new strip record. Newspapers reported he held the world's record in that class of 145 mph. On Nov. 15 at Davis-Monthan airfield, he set a new strip record with 9.37 at 135.90 mph.
