Notes: Doug bought the car from Jim Parsons. It was one of the two "High & Mighty" Street Roadsters. He lowered the chassis and reconfigured the roll bar. The drivetrain was a long rod, destroked 426 Hemi. It was 396 cubic inches. The trans was a Clutchflite. Doug went three rounds at the US Nationals. He lost to a blown oil filter on the starting line. Bad break for sure. He was an independent racer and an excellent mechanic. One of the more prominent and successful racers from the London, Ontario area, that also included Glenn Gregory, Bill Kydd, and Ralph Hope. |

Notes: First Nebraskan to win a national championship. During 1959 and 1960, undefeated in his class, competing in Omaha, Lincoln, Sioux City, Grand Island, and Kansas City. Only class loss came at the 1959 AHRA Nationals in Great Bend, KS. At the 1969 AHRA Nationals in Kansas City, beat a blown, injected Fiat called the "Pipe Dream" that came all the way from San Diego, CA. Ross had a lower ET, but Pipe Dream had a much higher Top Speed because Ross ran two gears and beat him off the line. Pipe Dream bogged off the line because he ran only one gear. |

Notes: In 1958, he raced a '57 Chevy in the A Modified Stock class. He jumped up to the B/A class in 1959, racing a distinctively painted '32 Ford with a '57 Chevy engine. He wracked up a number of Top Eliminator and class wins in the season, topping the season off with a Middle Eliminator win at the State Championships at Pel State on Nov. 1. He replaced the '57 engine with a '58 Chev engine for the Nov. 1 race. He also kept breaking his own strip record as the season progressed. He repainted the car by mid-season with a solid color.
