Notes: Bob qualified #9 for the sixteen-car field at the NHRA Winternats with a 7.86/193.96. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Billy Scott. Bob's 8.01/194.38 lost to Billy's 7.90/191 in their race. On June 2, Pacitto was at Tri-City for the NHRA Division Three opener. He qualified for the eight-car field, but the car failed to fire for its first-round race against John Hilton. A 7.82 qualified at the NHRA Springnats, but he went out in the first round, with a 7.95/191.48 that fell to Rico Paris' 7.77/196. At the US Nationals, he again lost in round one. Bob ran a confirmed 7.707 at 196.50 at Indy 1968, but the car was up for sale in a November 1968 National Dragster stating that it had run a best of 7.56/201. |

Notes: Bill is Otie's son. Smith ran 7.73/178.21 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals to qualify #8. Unfortunately, he hurt some parts and was unable to run in eliminations allowing first alternate, Bob Muravez into the field. Bill had the "Otie's Special" for sale in Drag News in November. The ad stated that the car had run a best of 7.56/199.90. No price was given. |

Notes: After Marinoff's blown '40 Willys B-Gasser was destroyed in a crash at Oswego (IL) Dragstrip, he joined with fellow Milwaukee racer Pete Farnsworth to run a blown gas dragster. The gas-burning B/D ran in 1964/65. The rail won Top Gas at the 1964 World Series of Drag Racing (Cordova, IL). Marinoff lost to Pete Robinson at the '65 Bakersfield meet with clutch problems. |

Notes: Leonard had a very short (six months) but very successful dragster-driving career. He owned a gas station in Playa del Rey when he teamed up to drive for Ronnie Scrima and Gene Adams in their new dragster. They began putting together a string of straight Top Eliminator wins at Lions Drag Strip that was nothing short of phenomenal. They also took Top Eliminator wins at Pomona and Riverside. They took Top Eliminator at the U.S. Nationals held in Detroit. They returned to Lions and continued their incredible hot winning streak. They were scheduled to have a match race at Lions against Jack Chrisman and his two-engined Twin Bear dragster for a position on the Drag News national ranking list on October 22. Unfortunately, one of Chrisman's engines broke, so Harris made a pass to run in that night's eliminations. Their engine cracked a cylinder wall during the run, so they put their car on the trailer. There was another car that was debuting at the meet that had been rushed and pieced together that week. A couple of other drivers had taken a hand in trying to get that car to make a good pass without success. Harris volunteered to see if he could make a decent run in the car. He was paired against Quincy Automotive's twin Chevy dragster. Some believed that a front axle broke, others that a steering arm had come off, but no one knew for sure what happened. Harris lost control of the car, and it made a left turn into the catch fence and got upside down in a violent crash. He succumbed to injuries that he sustained in the accident. Notes: In his search for a good driver, George Adriance got Chula Vista hair stylist Tony Vidrio to be his driver for the '61 season. His nickname was "Captain" or "Captain Video." It took him a while to get up to speed, but Tony proved capable. Colton was their track of choice for racing again in '61. He took a TE win at Colton on Feb. 26 with 10.52 at 150.75 mph. He notched another TE win on Apr. 9 with a better 9.19 at 163.04 mph. On June 24, he clocked 9.82 and 158.73 mph. On July 8, his best was 9.47 and 158.17 mph. A week later, they took Top Eliminator with 9.58 and 161.71 mph. On Aug. 8, he turned a very fast 8.95 at 160.00 mph. Proving that fast time was not a fluke, he turned 9.01 at 169.42 mph at a rare outing to northern California at Vaca Valley Raceway. The next day they raced at Cotati and took a TE victory with 9.62 at 156.75 mph. Back at Colton on Oct. 8, the "Captain" ran 9.60 at 161.29 mph. Notes: At Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet, Don qualified well and in round one, his 7.75/188.28 beat Dave Uyehara. In the second round, he lost to the race's eventual winner Walt Rhoades. A week later (March 16), he failed to qualify for the eight-car field at Riverside for the HRM Championships. Don was at OCIR on May 10 for an eight-car show. He qualified #5 with a 7.65/187.50. Unfortunately, he fouled (7.99/186.72) against Don Enriquez in the first round. OCIR held an eight-car show on June 7 and Don competed. He got a first-round single when Roger Gates shut off with no oil pressure, but in the semifinals his off pace 8.01/189.06 lost to Dave Russell's 7.70/193. |
