Notes: Larry qualified #8 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with an 8.03/191.88. A first-round 8.01/192.30 lost to Rick Ramsey's 7.96/188. Lions held an eight-car show on April 15, and Bowers' 7.83 qualified #1. He lasted until the semifinal before fouling out to eventual winner Walt Rhoades. On November 5, he was at San Fernando, where he won spectacularly. He faced Bob Smith in the final, and Larry had his clutch explode and rip the car in two. He won with an 8.17/187.89 over Smith's 8.19/189, and when the remains of the dragster stopped, he emerged out OK. |

Notes: Nancy qualified #2 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals sixteen-car field. His 7.72/191.48 was quite far behind Billy Scott, who ran 7.46/202 for the pole. Tony improved to 7.65/192.70 in the opening round, but he was late off the line and lost to Cliff Smith's 7.83/191. On May 18, he was at Irwindale for an eight-car show. Unfortunately, his 8.01/174.42 in the opening round lost to Bob Muravez' 7.62/197 in the "Freight Train." He won over at eight-car field at Famoso on June 2. He had set Low ET at 7.87, and in the final, his 7.94 defeated Gary Cochran. |

Notes: Roeckner and Watts were at Bluegrass Dragway in Lexington, Kentucky, for an eight-car show on July 23. The car was still using the SOHC Ford engine at the time. In the opening round, Dale's 8.19/186.72 beat Jim Bucher's 8.23/172. He then made an easy pass in the semifinal when John Hilton fouled. In the final, he faced the Chevy-powered car of Keene, Toops, and Brock. It was a close race, but the Chevy's 8.13/179 came out on top over the Ford's 8.15/189.46. There were only two Ford Cammer powered cars in Indy's 32 car field for the NHRA U.S. Nationals, Bob Pacitto and Roeckner. The team ran 8.069/189.96 to qualify #24. Shortly after that, September 17, the car was damaged pretty bad in a crash at Dragway 42. The Ford-powered car was the only qualifier in the "seven's" with a 7.98/193.12. Dale also had the best ET of round one with an 8.03/190.26 but he fouled on the run. The team got back into the show on the "break rule." In the final, Dale faced the "Oties" car. Roeckner won with an 8.04/191.48, but his parachute failed on the run and the car went into the dirt alongside the track and car car flipped end over end. Dale was alright and the SOHC and rear end seemed to be good. The front end sustained the most damage. |
