Notes: Noice was at Irwindale on May 27 for an eight-car show. In the opening round of eliminations, his 7.98/188.66 beat Gary Murphy's 8.13/178. But in the semifinals, his 8.04 fell to eventual winner Gerry Glenn's 7.86/194. On July 1, he was at Irwindale for an eight-car show. He soloed in round one with an easy 8.37. In the semifinal, his 8.13/187.10 beat Walt Rhoades' 8.15/188 in the "Boat Anchor." Bob faced the "Porsche Brothers" in the final and won with an 8.14. He qualified #15 in the 32 car field at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals with a 7.95/188.28. Bob lasted until the third round before breaking a rear end on the line against Billy Scott. |

Notes: The Ono Brothers were turning heads with their gas dragster on the UDRA circuit. They pulled in to Martin, Michigan, for a circuit race in June. Mits came off the trailer and ran 7.68/200.88. Rain canceled the race. They then went to Saginaw, Michigan, for the next UDRA race and once again came off the trailer with an eye-opening 7.62/201.34. Unfortunately, the team cracked a cylinder head on the run and was out of competition. They ran 7.661/199.94 at Indy. |

Notes: Rosberg was in Las Vegas in February for the Stardust National Open. It was an eight-car show, and he lasted until the semifinal before losing to eventual winner Don Enriquez. On March 9, he was at OCIR for an eight-car show. His 7.89/189.06 qualified #6, but in the opening round, he lost to Bob Muravez in the "Freight Train." The following week (March 16), he went to Riverside for the HRM Championships. The eight-car field had a 7.77 "bump," and Dick failed to qualify. He was back at OCIR on May 10, where his 7.65 qualified #3 in the eight-car field. Muravez blew one of his engines in the first round against him, so Rosberg advanced with a 7.99/190.66. In the semifinal, his 7.72/198.66 lost to Walt Rhoades' 7.74/198. Lions held an eight-car show at the end of the month, and Rosberg qualified #6 with a 7.72. A slightly better 7.70/193.54 in the first round fell to Norm Wilcox's 7.56/191. From there, it was back to OCIR on June 7. Dick qualified #1, and as only seven cars showed, he got the "odd-lot" solo in round one. In the semifinal, he advanced with a 7.79/187.10 when Denny McCarrell fouled. He faced Dave Russell in the final, and he fouled away a 7.73/192.30 while Russell ran an easy 8.41128 for the victory. At Dallas, for the NHRA Springnationals, Dick's 7.81/191.48 qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen car field. He improved to 7.72/191.48 in the first round that advanced over a fouling Jack Mitchell. In round two, he lost to Phil Hobbs. Dick ran 7.63 at the Indy Nationals. |

Notes: Larry qualified #8 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with an 8.03/191.88. A first-round 8.01/192.30 lost to Rick Ramsey's 7.96/188. Lions held an eight-car show on April 15, and Bowers' 7.83 qualified #1. He lasted until the semifinal before fouling out to eventual winner Walt Rhoades. On November 5, he was at San Fernando, where he won spectacularly. He faced Bob Smith in the final, and Larry had his clutch explode and rip the car in two. He won with an 8.17/187.89 over Smith's 8.19/189, and when the remains of the dragster stopped, he emerged out OK. |

Notes: After Marinoff's blown '40 Willys B-Gasser was destroyed in a crash at Oswego (IL) Dragstrip, he joined with fellow Milwaukee racer Pete Farnsworth to run a blown gas dragster. The gas-burning B/D ran in 1964/65. The car took Top Gas at the World Series of Drag Racing at Cordova, IL in 1964, but lost to Pete Robinson at the '65 Bakersfield meet with clutch problems. |

Notes: The Wilkins Brothers debuted their dragster late in the season at San Fernando, where they did most of their racing. They were first classified as a D/D, but a new rules change put them into B/D. They took top eliminator at San Fernando on Nov. 15 with 10.10 and 149.00 mph. That speed was good enough to establish a new B/D Drag News 1320 record which they held for several months. On Nov. 29 at Riverside, they lost to Tommy Ivo's new twin Buick dragster and beat him once "by inches." At San Fernando on Dec. 6, they were classified as an A Gas Dragster and took a top eliminator win with 9.98 at 148.27 mph. Notes: 1970 Bakersfield Winner. Sam was driving the "Freight Train" at Irwindale on April 18 for a sixteen-car "Combo" eliminator race. He won the event, running a solo 7.80 at a shut off 154.90 in the first round. In the second round, his 7.51 (Low ET of the Meet) at 190.66 beat Gene Brasel's Jr. Fueler at 7.99/186. Another 7.5 came in the semifinals where a 7.58/192.70 stopped Jack Jones' 7.73/188. In the final he went up against Walt Rhoades. Walt smoked the tires and shut off while Sam streaked to the victory with a 7.70/189.66. |

Notes: Stevens was at Bakersfield for the March Meet. It was a sixteen-car field, and in the first round, he ran 7.68/191.89 to defeat Mark Pieri's 7.85/196. Norm Wilcox fouled against him in round two, so he eased to a 10.13/95.74 to advance. But in the semifinal, he fouled against eventual winner Walt Rhoades in the "Gas House Gang" car. The following week (March 9), he was at OCIR for an eight-car show. His 7.77/193.54 (Top Speed) qualified #3.Another 7.77/181.08 in the opening round beat Jim Bunker, and in the semifinal, a 7.79/192.70 beat Bob Muravez driving the "Freight Train. He faced Mike Snively in the final, and Walt's 7.81/191.88 got the victory over Snively's 7.98. His next stop was at Riverside for the HRM Championships. This was an eight-car show, and he failed to break into the 7.77 "bump." |
