Notes: My dad finished building Fatboy's Folly from an A40 street car to NHRA Gasser in 1970. It was originally supposed to run AA/GS, but the chassis length had been slightly altered by Al Swindahl (his FIRST door car built chassis), and that resulted in NHRA changing the classification to BB/A. My dad owned & raced Fatboy's Folly from 1970/1974. This Austin was also raced as Fatboy's Folly by John Dutton (he kept the paint scheme & used my dads competition number), Hi-Pro Racing by Money Mark (last name unknown), Low to No Buck Racing by Don Wilson & is currently running out in Ohio as the Warlock Austin by Micky Hale. |

Notes: When did this car transition from Cammer to Boss 429? | The 1967 Mustang Malco Gasser debuted at the 1967 NHRA Spring Nationals in Bristol, Tennessee. This was the car that changed the Gassers forever. It was at corporate Ford's insistence that "Ohio George" race what Ford sold. This car proved so superior in handling and performance that the "World's Wildest Willys" was permanently retired. The Malco Gasser was powered by a 671 Blown 427 cubic inch SOHC Ford engine that made approximately 1200 HP on pump gas and was raced until May 1975. It was chosen to the 1967 Car Craft All-Star Drag Team. George set 5 NHRA National records with this car and won Super Eliminator at the 1969 NHRA Spring Nationals. The Malco Gasser is now on display at the Peterson Museum in Los Angeles, California. | Had NHRA record at 165.44 |

Notes: Blown, stock displacement 427 Cammer with 4-hole upright Hilborn injectors. C-6 auto trans. Frame built by owner off of heavily modified '33 Willys frame rails to conform to NHRA's gas class "stock automobile-type frame" rule. Car weight 2,150 lbs. fiberglass '67 Mustang body by Cal Automotive, painted "metalflake Easter Bunny blue." | The 1967 Mustang Malco Gasser debuted at the 1967 NHRA Spring Nationals in Bristol, Tennessee. The Malco Gasser is now on display at the Peterson Museum in Los Angeles, California. Montgomery had his new Mustang at Kil-Kare Dragway on April 14. It was his first time back at the track since 1960. He only made one pass, but it was a good one, an early shut-off 8.85. George was at Aquasco Speedway on July 21 for an eight-car show. In the opening round, his 8.86/161.57 beat Paul Frost's 9.10/128. In the semifinal, Jack Coonrod's 9.07/154 could do nothing with Montgomery's 8.83/161.87. He faced off against K.S. Pittman in the final. The two left the line together in the final, but the Mustang steadily pulled ahead to win with an 8.74/163.04 over Pittman's 8.88/159. On July 28, he was in New England for a four-car show. Montgomery cracked an aluminum cylinder head in the first round while running a losing 9.00/158 against Ray Cook's 8.91/157 in the "Stone, Woods & Cook" GT500. Rain delayed the race, so the cars could only make two runs. On George's next run, he knew he had to cut the lights close as his SOHC was running wounded. He did cut a good light, and his 9.02/158 held on to win over Pittman's better 8.94/157. A few days later (July 31), these same four cars ran at Kansas City. George's 8.73 beat Junior Thompson's 8.71. In his second race, he fouled away an 8.75 while opponent Pittman ran 8.69 to win. The next day, the four made a quick trip to Wichita International (August 1). Montgomery opened racing with an 8.89/161 that covered Thompson's 8.98/154. Pittman got out on him in the next race, and George had to drive around him with an 8.95/151 that beat Pittman's 8.98/146. George ran an 8.88/160.71 single in the last race of the event. These four were at National Trail on August 11 for their next stop. |

Notes: The Warrens sold the Corvette less engine to Fred Schirmer of Pleasanton, Calif. Fred had the car repainted, changing it to a 70’s style paint scheme. To power the Corvette Fred used an early Chrysler Hemi engine out of a drag boat that he had previously raced. The Corvette was successful in the AA/GS and BB/A classes. Winning the BB/A class at the 1971 NHRA Winternationals at Pomona Calif. with Buzzy Wadsworth doing the driving. 9.02/159.29 times recorded at the 8th Annual Valley Raceway Gas Coupe and Sedan Championships not representative of the car's capabilities. - RT |

On March 1, he was at Lions for an eight-car show, but an 8.91/157.61 in the first round, lost to a quick-leaving Ron Zeller, who won with an 8.93/154. He was back at Lions on March 15, but his 10.19 best failed to qualify. Gary qualified #1 with an 8.86/160.14 on May 24 at an eight-car show at OCIR. In the first round, he ran a best ever (to this point) 8.71/161.57 to advance over a fouling Manuel Herrera. In the semifinal, it was Burgin who fouled, wasting an 8.75/160.32 on a red light loss to Steve Korney's 8.84/156. On July 26, OCIR held another AA/GS show. Fourteen cars showed, and Gary's 8.87 qualified #3. He got past the first round, but in round two, his 9.10 lost to Herrera (now driving John Lombardo's Corvette) at 8.90. | Burgin ran Open AA/GS programs in So-Cal. Those cars frequently were not NHRA-legal. However, legal-blown street roadsters were allowed to compete against the NHRA's AA/GS class coupes starting in 1968. - RT Burgin raced the Willys early in 1969, switched to the 27-T Roadster May-1969. |

Notes: Fred bought the Corvette from the Warren Brothers less engine. He had the car repainted, changing it to a 70s style paint scheme. To power the Corvette, Fred used an early Chrysler Hemi engine out of a drag boat that he had previously raced. The Corvette was successful in the AA/GS and BB/A classes. He won the BB/A class at the 1971 NHRA Winternationals at Pomona, Calif., with Buzzy Wadsworth doing the driving. |

Notes: When the Vette was first completed Ron Rinauro put his Hemi engine, transmission, 3rd member, rear wheels & tires from his 33 Willys in Rod’s Corvette to race AA/GS match races, with Rinauro doing the driving. After 8 months the engine was removed and replaced with a Charlie McCullough built injected big block to race in the B/A class, with Rod Baker doing the driving. Rinauro’s engine was put in his new AA/GS 1970 Dodge Challenger. Also Brasher & Cummings put their Hemi engine out of their Willys in this car, with Bill Brasher doing the driving. |

Notes: Pittman ran the first eight-second time at a national event when he ran 8.93/157.87 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He was debuting his new '33 Willys there, and he qualified it with a 9.38/152.02. He eventually set Top Speed and Low ET for the class with his 8.93/157.87, but he finished runner-up to George Montgomery for AA/GS class honors. On March 19, he was at Irwindale. While he was not running in competition, he did make a great 8.91 pass. He ran a career-best(to this point)of 8.90 in May at New England. He bettered that later in the day with an 8.89. Both runs were made using new M&H 11.75s. |

Notes: The car debuted in 1965 as an A/Gasser, then stepped up to AA/G in '66. Korney fielded the car as an Anglia until mid-1970. In '69, he was runner-up to Ohio George Montgomery in AA/GS Indy class runoffs, marking the end of dominance by a classic gasser-style bodied car in AA/GS. In '71, the Anglia shell was replaced by a Corvette shell and with the Stone, Woods & Cook logo went on tour with K.S. Pittman, Junior Thompson, and a few others, dubbed a traveling blown gas funny car circuit. As of mid-'80s, rumor had it that Korney still had the car, including the Anglia body. As an Anglia, ran 8.50s, as a Vette, 8.30s. | Steve started the '69 season by winning over an eight-car field at OCIR. He set Low ET in qualifying #1 with an 8.55. In round one, his 9.05/153.84 advanced over Brad Anderson's 9.11/155. In the semifinals, both he and his opponent Ron Zeller ran 8.99 (Steve at 155.97), but the Anglia got the win light. Then in the final, he faced Gary Densham and Korney ran Low ET of eliminations with an 8.77/157.45 to take the victory over Gary's 8.98/156. He was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals where he ran in the Super Eliminator class. He won his first-round race with a 9.17/155.79, but he lost to Jack Ditmars in round two. On March 15 he was at OCIR for another eight-car show. He qualified #3 with an 8.67 and in the first round, he beat Gary Burgin with an 8.69/158.45. In the semifinals, he had problems and shut off to 10.84 in a loss to Ron Bizio. Lions held another eight-car show on April 26 and Steve qualified #4 with an 8.88. An 8.82/157.61 advanced past round one when Mike Boosin's Corvette failed to fire. In the semifinals, the Anglia broke on its burnout giving Ernie Nicholson a solo into the final. Steve was at OCIR on May 21 for an eight-car show. He qualified #2 with an 8.90/150.18, but picked up to an 8.81/155.97 in the first round, while beating Danny Collins' 9.18/152. In the semifinals, he beat Zeller's 8.68/167 with a holeshot 8.84/156.29. He saved his best for the last round where he ran an 8.71/156.25 to win the meet over Ron Bizio who had his fuel pump actually fall off onto the track during their final round run. Another AA/GS show took place at OCIR on July 26. It was hoped to be a sixteen-car show, but only fourteen cars showed. Steve qualified #8 with a 9.00. In the first round, he improved to an 8.72 to beat Steve Thomas. In round two he beat Densham's 8.78 with an 8.66. Gary protested Korney's Anglia and the car was found to be legal, even weighing 100 pounds more than it had to at the 5 lbs. per CID minimum. Steve slept in the semifinal and ran a strong 8.73, but lost to Keith Bush's 8.83. - RH |
