Notes: Skip was at OCIR on August 3 for an eight-car show. His 9.09/155.97 qualified #4. In the opening round, the car came up to the line ailing, and he lost to Mike Mitchell's 8.98/155. Skip set Top Speed at a Fremont Gasser event on September 16 at 154.34 (Mike Mitchell event winner). |

Notes: Ron was at Irwindale in January for an eight-car show. His 9.44/151.97 qualified on the "bump" as eleven cars were attempting to qualify. He improved to 9.27/153.32 in the first round, but it wasn't enough to beat Manual Herrera's 9.00/154. On May 18, he was back at Irwindale for an eight-car show. In the opening round, his 8.97/157.06 defeated Ron Zeller. In the semifinal, he fouled away a 9.00/157.34 against eventual winner Rich Siroonian's 8.84/158. Yet another eight-car show was run at Irwindale on July 27. Bizio was running really well there. He set Low ET and Top Speed in the first round with an 8.85/161.87 that beat Jim Kirby. Herrera fouled against him in the semifinal, and he advanced with a 9.02/156.79. He faced Ernie Nicholson and his "Flower Power" 'Cuda in the final. Ernie shut off in the final, and Ron ran 8.92/156.52 for the victory. These two exchanged their finishing order at Irwindale on August 10. Ron's 8.92/156.52 qualified #1, and he stayed in the "8's" by running 8.98/156.79 over Mike Mitchell and 8.91/157.89 (Low ET and Top Speed) in the semifinal over Cluff & Meyer. Ernie also made it into the final running "8's." In the final, both slowed, and Nicholson's 9.14/149 got the victory over Bizio's 9.33/150.75 runner-up effort. This truck was featured in the December 1968 Drag Strip magazine. The article stated that the 2,260 lb. Truck had run a best of 8.62/162. It went on to say that it used a '57 Chrysler stroked to 448 cubic inches. It used Hilborn injection on a Don Hampton-built blower. Power was transmitted through a TorqueFlite to a Pontiac rear using 4.44 gears. (Drag Strip Magazine 12/68). AKA Beaver Shot. |

Notes: The car debuted in 1965 as an A/Gasser, then stepped up to AA/G in '66. Korney fielded the car as an Anglia until mid-1970. In '69, he was runner-up to Ohio George Montgomery in AA/GS Indy class runoffs, marking the end of dominance by a classic gasser-style bodied car in AA/GS. In '71, the Anglia shell was replaced by a Corvette shell and with the Stone, Woods & Cook logo went on tour with K.S. Pittman, Junior Thompson, and a few others, dubbed a traveling blown gas funny car circuit. As of mid-'80s, rumor had it that Korney still had the car, including the Anglia body. As an Anglia, ran 8.50s, as a Vette, 8.30s. | Steve started the '69 season by winning over an eight-car field at OCIR. He set Low ET in qualifying #1 with an 8.55. In round one, his 9.05/153.84 advanced over Brad Anderson's 9.11/155. In the semifinals, both he and his opponent Ron Zeller ran 8.99 (Steve at 155.97), but the Anglia got the win light. Then in the final, he faced Gary Densham and Korney ran Low ET of eliminations with an 8.77/157.45 to take the victory over Gary's 8.98/156. He was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals where he ran in the Super Eliminator class. He won his first-round race with a 9.17/155.79, but he lost to Jack Ditmars in round two. On March 15 he was at OCIR for another eight-car show. He qualified #3 with an 8.67 and in the first round, he beat Gary Burgin with an 8.69/158.45. In the semifinals, he had problems and shut off to 10.84 in a loss to Ron Bizio. Lions held another eight-car show on April 26 and Steve qualified #4 with an 8.88. An 8.82/157.61 advanced past round one when Mike Boosin's Corvette failed to fire. In the semifinals, the Anglia broke on its burnout giving Ernie Nicholson a solo into the final. Steve was at OCIR on May 21 for an eight-car show. He qualified #2 with an 8.90/150.18, but picked up to an 8.81/155.97 in the first round, while beating Danny Collins' 9.18/152. In the semifinals, he beat Zeller's 8.68/167 with a holeshot 8.84/156.29. He saved his best for the last round where he ran an 8.71/156.25 to win the meet over Ron Bizio who had his fuel pump actually fall off onto the track during their final round run. Another AA/GS show took place at OCIR on July 26. It was hoped to be a sixteen-car show, but only fourteen cars showed. Steve qualified #8 with a 9.00. In the first round, he improved to an 8.72 to beat Steve Thomas. In round two he beat Densham's 8.78 with an 8.66. Gary protested Korney's Anglia and the car was found to be legal, even weighing 100 pounds more than it had to at the 5 lbs. per CID minimum. Steve slept in the semifinal and ran a strong 8.73, but lost to Keith Bush's 8.83. - RH |

Notes: Ernie was at Lions on February 1, where he made a check-out pass of 8.90/137.82. Lions held an eight-car show on April 26, and Nicholson qualified with an 8.95. He picked up a bunch in the first round, as his 8.76/160.14 beat Skip Hess' 8.78/159. In the semifinals, he soloed with an 8.86/141.28 when Steve Korney's Anglia broke on its burnout. That put him in the final against Ron Bizio's Willys. Unfortunately, the Cuda had problems, and Ernie shut down to a 9.44/109.57 while Ron went on to win with an 8.60/162. He was back at Lions for another eight-car show on May 17. An 8.99 qualified #7, but a first-round 9.00/156.25 lost to Bizio's 8.74/160. Ernie failed to qualify for an eight-car show at OCIR on May 24. The bump spot was a 9.27. One car could not run, and Ernie's Cuda got into the show. He picked it up a whole bunch in the first round, running an 8.94/157.06, but still losing to Ron Zeller's Low ET blast of 8.63/167. Nicholson's 8.94 would have qualified for the field in the third spot. He was at OCIR on June 28 for a sixteen-car show. A first-round 9.42/151.77 advanced easily, but in round two, his 9.31/153.84 fell to Gary Densham's 8.87/160. On July 26, he was back at OCIR for another AA/GS show. He qualified #6 with an 8.94, but he fouled against Gene Modlin in the first round and lost with a 9.35. |

Notes: This was the Last Professional Race of Chuck Finders. A driving career that started in 1958 at the Oklahoma Nationals and ended in 1993. A very small number of Racers have accomplished this feat of racing in 5 Decades. Chuck continued to build cars until May of 2010. - Chuck Finders Jr. |

Notes: A full-size Dart was definitely an anomaly in the gas classes, at a time when the trend was to chopped-top '33 Willys and even swoopier Opels. - RT | The car was built in Colorado in '68. Anderson moved to So-Cal in '69 and broke the ET records at all three major tracks. Sold the car, sans motor and wheels, to Keith Bush who redubbed it "Bushwacker" and raced out of the Fremont area for a few years. - BD |
