Notes: Steve qualified #14 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.56/184.19. A 7.59/178.04 in round one, lost to Gordie Rivera's 7.48/183. At the NHRA Gatornationals, he qualified #9 with a 7.51/184.50. The problem with that was that he would have to run Bob Glidden in the first round. Anyone qualifying in the #9 spot in '87 would have to race Glidden as he qualified #1 at every NHRA National event. Steve attempted to compensate, and he fouled away a 7.63 while Glidden moved on with a 7.40. Atlanta was the next stop on the NHRA tour for the Southern Nationals. Schmidt qualified for the show with a 7.57/184.91 which was good enough for the #13 spot in the field. He ran 7.47/185.79 in round one, but it wasn't enough to beat Warren Johnson's 7.44/185. He continued to do well in qualifying at the NHRA Cajun Nationals where there were 34 cars attempting to qualify. Steve's 7.61/182/92 qualified #11. Another 7.61 at 173.14 in the first round, lost to the race's eventual winner Butch Leal at 7.51/183. At the NHRA Springnationals, he failed to qualify for the show, only running a best of 7.75/182.85 (sixteenth alternate). Steve did not go to Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals, but he was back on the tour for the Summernationals at Englishtown. Once again he had problems and his best of 7.63/181.34 was good for the tenth alternate. He did not qualify for a NHRA race until the NHRA Northstar Nationals where his 7.63/180.07 gave him the #11 spot in the field. He got his first NHRA round win of the year when Joe Lepone fouled against him in the first round, and Steve advanced with a 7.66/181.05. In the second round, he was he who fouled against Johnson. He had to gamble as Warren won with a 7.58 compared to his red-light 7.65. Then came Indy for the NHRA US Nationals. Unfortunately, Steve's best of 7.59/183.56 (eighth alternate) failed to make the show. |

Notes: Mark ran well in '89, considering he changed makes, going from Pontiac to Oldsmobile. It was quite hard just qualifying for the Pro Stock shows, and he was able to make it into the field at most of the meets. He started the season by using a 7.41 to qualify #13 at Pomona for the Winternationals. He lost to Bob Glidden's 7.30/188 in the first round, with a 7.38/186.95. The series moved to Houston for the Supernationals where a 7.35 qualified #9. He met low qualifier Larry Morgan in the first round, and lost. Mark just made the show in Atlanta for the Southern Nationals. He was #16 with a 7.43/186.18, but he lost to Darrell Alderman in the first round. Mark failed to qualify at the Mid-South Nationals, but once again got the #16 spot with a 7.50/183.55 at the Cajun Nationals. He lost to Kenny Delco in the first round. At the Springnationals, Pawuk qualified much lower with a 7.40/184.95 for the #7 spot. He beat Gary Herman in the first round, and in round two, a 7.45/184 beat Warren Johnson. Unfortunately, he lost to Glidden in the semifinal. The next event was the Grandnationals in Canada. Mark's 7.45/184.46 was good for the #15 spot. An off pace 7.62/182.74 in the first round, lost to Rickie Smith's 7.46/183. He ventured to Milan for the IHRA Northern Nationals on July 2 and ran quite well, earning runner-up honors to Smith. The following week, he was back in the NHRA fold running Englishtown for the Summernationals. A best attempt of 7.44/185.79 was good for the second alternate. He rebounded by qualifying #13 at the Mile High Nationals with a 7.92/172.74 getting the spot. Mark lost to Joe Lepone Jr. in the first round. He used a 7.37 to qualify #11 at the California Nationals. A first-round 7.48/185.41 fell to Glidden's 7.33/187 in the first round. The next NHRA event was at Seattle for the Seafair Nationals and Mark ran a 7.38/186.72 to qualify in the top half of the field (#7). He should have won his first-round race with a 7.44/185.95, but he was slow off the line and lost to Ken Koretsky's 7.46/185.60. The next stop on the tour was the Northstar Nationals. Mark qualified #13 with a 7.49/184.12 and lost in the first round, to Morris Johnson Jr. At the US Nationals, Mark used a 7.40/186.14 to qualify #11. He ran a somewhat slower 7.48/185.14 in the first round, that lost to Morgan's 7.40/186. The next race was the Keystone Nationals at Maple Grove where a 7.42/185.83 failed to make the show (sixth alternate). He made the field at the Chief Nationals with a 7.36/186.29, but he lost again in the first round. This time, a 7.42/186.18 lost to Don Beverley's 7.38/186. At the Fallnationals, a 7.47/184.42 qualified #11. He still had the "first-round blues" when he lost to Morgan in round one. |

Notes: Ran 7.72/181 at NHRA Grandnational Molson 87. Alban attempted to qualify at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, but his 7.59/182.37 was good for the second alternate. That still wasn't too bad, considering there were over 40 cars trying to make the sixteen-car field. |

Notes: Harry qualified #16 at the first 500-inch Pro Stock race at the 1982 NHRA Winternationals with an 8.052/169.49. He lost to Reid Whisnant in the first round. He won the NHRA Division 6 race at OCIR on March 28, where a final round 8.09/168.85 beat a fouling Jerry Eckman. The team ran 7.964/171.75 at the May NHRA Division 6 event in Fremont. The team was struggling to qualify at NHRA national events, but they kept trying. They came close to making the eight-car show at the Mile High Nationals, where Harry's best of 8.41/164.83 in the thin air was second alternate. He qualified on the "bump spot" of the next NHRA event, the Northstar Nationals at Brainerd. An 8.05/173.07 got the #16 spot. Scribner lost to Joe Lepone Jr. in the first round. A 7.91/174.41 got the "bump" at Indianapolis for the NHRA US Nationals. He ran 7.95/174.4 in the first round but lost to Ronnie Manchester. At the NHRA Golden Gate Nationals, a best of 7.87/173.74 failed to make the eight-car show. The season-ending NHRA World Finals at Pomona saw Harry run 7.87/174.75, but the time was only good for first alternate. Harry finished #19 in the season-long NHRA points chase. |

Notes: What a difference a year makes. At the '89 Winternationals, Don qualified #1 with a 7.33, but at Pomona for the '90 event, his best of 7.40/187.50 was good for the first alternate. He failed to qualify at the next few NHRA races, the Arizona Nats, where another 7.40 at 186.10 was the second alternate, and at the Super Nationals at Baytown (where his 7.40/186.48 was the twelfth alternate). Another 7.40 at 186.02 (second alternate) missed the show at the Gatornationals. He was the fifth alternate at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational with a 7.40/186.64, and he failed to make the cut in Atlanta for the Southern Nationals, where he was the eighth alternate at 7.36/187.96. His best times of the year were 7.310/188.20 at NHRA Ennis Fall. |

Notes: Troy started the year at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where he was the first alternate at 7.11/195.01. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, his 7.09/195.35 qualified on the "bump." He upset low qualifier Warren Johnson in the first round with another 7.09/195.27 that beat WJ's 7.13/193. In round two, Mark Osborne's 7.20/192 fell to Troy's 7.12/194.30. In the semifinal, he slowed to 7.16/194.67 in a loss to the eventual winner, Jim Yates' 7.08/194. The next race was the NHRA Gatornationals, where Coughlin ran 7.05/197.10 for the #12 spot in the show. His 7.14/193.00 in the opening round lost to Steve Schmidt's 7.04/196. Houston was the next stop on the NHRA calendar for the Slick 50 Nationals (Supernationals). Troy continued to improve in qualifying as his 7.04/196.50 qualified #9. Unfortunately, he lost to Ray Franks in the first round. He then went to Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational. There, his 7.08/194.88 failed to qualify (fifth alternate). He made up for his DNQ by qualifying #10 at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals with a 7.08/195.18. In round one, Yate's 7.08/194 defeated his 7.17/194.76. A 7.06/195.69 qualified #15 at Richmond for the NHRA Virginia Nationals. He improved to 7.03/196.37 in the first round to beat Yates' 7.02/196. In round two, his 7.11/195.95 lost to Chuck Harris' 7.05/196. The NHRA Springnationals saw Coughlin qualify #10 with a 7.12/195.05, and in round one, his 7.19/194.34 beat Schmidt's late 7.14/184. In round two, he lost to Tom Martino. Rick Howard photo from 1996 US Nats, Indy, where he qualified 9th at 7.08/194.51. Beat Dester Cambron but lost to Jim Yates in round two. |

Notes: Ray was very competitive in 1996, running neck and neck with the top cars in the class. He was runner up to Mike Edwards at the Houston Spring race and runner up to Jim Yates at Topeka in the Fall. Ray ran 7.0s all year and qualified at most events. Franks was at Richmond in the first week of May for the NHRA Virginia Nationals. He was the second alternate with a 7.07/194.97 best. Ray was the first alternate at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals with a 7.14/194.00. Shortly after that, he went to Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, where he ended up as the fourth alternate at 7.20/191.93. Ray had his share of problems attempting to qualify at Denver for the NHRA Mile-High Nationals. He only ran a best of 7.60/181.67 and was the twelfth alternate. At Sonoma, for the NHRA California Nationals, he qualified #8 with a 7.07/195.52. Tom Martino fouled against him in the opening round, and his 7.08/195.43 advanced. In the second round, he defeated Kurt Johnson with a 7.13/193.71. He was stopped in the semi-final by Kurt's dad, Warren Johnson.WJ's 7.10/195 beat his 7.14/194.17. He was in Seattle in August for the NHRA Northwest Nationals. He qualified on the "bump" with a 7.04/194.63, but in the opening round, his 7.05/194.13 lost to Jim Yates' 7.01/195. Later in the month, he went to Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals. Unfortunately, his 7.20/192.71 best was good for the seventh alternate. He also failed to qualify at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, where he was the second alternate at 7.10/193.88. His best national event times came at Maple Grove, where he gave Jim Yates a good scare in round one, where his .419-initiated 7.019/195.43 was nipped on the top end by Yates’.442-initiated 6.974/197.15 – and Gainesville, where he ran 196.37 in qualifying. |

Notes: Ray drove his Camaro from Pomona through Atlanta, running better times than his replacement Beretta (see the separate entry). He had a great outing at Pomona, reaching the semifinals. He qualified #13 at 7.237/190.79 and surprised Joe Lepone Jr. in round one, 7.251/189.91 to 7.28/190. IN round two, he took out Jerry Eckman, 7.236/190.75 to 7.28/189. Eventual winner Warren Johnson ended Ray's day in round three, 7.18/192 to 7.265/189.83. Ray qualified on the bump at the Arizona Motorcraft Nationals at 7.314/188.60 but lost to WJ again, this time in round one, 7.15/193 to 7.320/189.35. Ray was the fifth alternate at Houston with a 7.202/191.73. His best times of the year came on a third alternate effort at Gainesville at 7.172/192.80. In Atlanta, Ray qualified #13 at 7.227/191.44. He lost to Frank Iaconio in round one, 7.28/190, to an off pace 7.63/160. Ray was the sixth alternate at Englishtown at 7.239/191.61 and the third alternate at Memphis at 7.294/190.31, but we are not sure if that was the Camaro or the Beretta, which definitely ran at Columbus in June. |

The trend continued at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, where he was the second alternate at 7.25/191.73. He was the fourth alternate at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals with a 7.29 best. But he was back to being the second alternate at Englishtown for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals with a 7.19/192.34. He qualified for his first race of the season at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. His 7.26/190.59 got him the #8 spot in the field. It was short-lived, however, as his off-pace 7.73/148.19 in the opening round lost to Ray Frank's 7.29/189. He fell back to being the seventh alternate at Topeka for the NHRA Western Nationals with a 7.37/187.85, and he was the sixth alternate at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals with a 7.74/178.25 best. He made the field at Sonoma for the NHRA California Nationals, where he qualified #10 with a 7.24/190.67. He upset Warren Johnson's 7.28/191 in the first round with a quick-leaving 7.33/189.35. In round two, he lost to Frank Iaconio. Seattle was the next stop on the NHRA calendar for the Northwest Nationals, and Brown's 7.19/191.08 qualified #8. In the first round, he improved slightly to a 7.18/191.08 to advance over a fouling Mike Thomas. In round two, WJ's 7.13/193 dropped his 7.28/190.71. Gary continued to make the field at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals, where a 7.26/189.67 qualified #9. He was late off the line in round one, where his 7.33/187.42 lost to Steve Schmidt's 7.37/187. His qualifying spree ended at Indy for the NHRA U.S. Nationals, where he was the seventh alternate at 7.31/188.99. Gary's best times of the year were the 7.173 at Houston and the 192.34 at Englishtown. |
