Notes: Rich ran several NHRA events this year. His best times came at the Gatornationals, where he qualified #11 at 7.767/178.21 but broke in round one against Don Coonce. Marino was driving this car at Maple Grove for the Super Stock Nationals. It was an eight-car field, and his 7.82/178.21 qualified #7. In the first round, he got out of shape and shut down against Frank Iaconio. |

Notes: Don attempted to qualify at Pomona for the season-opening NHRA Winternationals. There were 47 cars on hand trying to qualify for the sixteen-car field. Beverley's best of 7.58/181.92 was good for the fifth alternate. Things were even worse at the NHRA Gatornationals, where his 7.61/184.91 was the thirteenth alternate. He was one of the ten Pro Stocks to be invited to race at the NHRA Winston All-Stars race at the Texas Motorplex. The Pro categories featured eight-car fields, and unfortunately for Don, his best of 7.54/182.11 was good for the second alternate. Beverley's bad luck continued at the NHRA Southern Nationals. He was the twelfth alternate there with a 7.64/181.37 best. The story was the same at the NHRA Cajun Nationals, where his 7.72/183.52 was the fifth alternate for the show. Even though he was not making the shows, the competition was tough in the Pro Stock class, with almost 50 cars showing up for some shows. Don was just a little off in the horsepower department, but he was very close to breaking through. He was the sixth alternate at the NHRA Springnationals, running a 7.69/179.49 best. He did not follow the NHRA tour to Canada for the Grandnationals, but he was at Englishtown for the Summernationals, where his 7.63/180.32 best was the eleventh alternate. He also skipped going to Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. Beverley's next stop was at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals. He ended up as the twelfth alternate with a 7.78/178.14 best. Everyone wants to run well at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, and Don was no exception. But with 52 cars attempting to make the sixteen-car field, there are bound to be more unhappy faces than smiling ones. Beverley was disappointed as his 7.64/183.33 was just the nineteenth alternate. Don ran his best ET at Ennis Fall, but his 7.485/182.26 was the ninth alternate in the field. Don also did not qualify at Phoenix Fall and the World Finals. His 184.91 from Gainesville was his best speed of the year. |

Notes: Rick Howard photo from 1996 US Nats, Indy. Ten-time World champ Bob Glidden qualified for his 20th Nationals by putting his Ford on the bump spot with a best of 7.10/195.82. Jim Yates holeshot ended Bob's day in round one. (Did Bob run 7.015 somewhere this year?) Also 198.01 at Woodburn Invitational '96. Not listed as best MPH since it was not confirmed as NHRA legal. |

Notes: Mark attempted to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but his best of 7.12/195.52 left him as the fourth alternate for the field. He was the second alternate at the NHRA Arizona Nationals with a 7.10/194.93 best. He got one spot closer to making the show at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, where his 7.07/195.82 was the first alternate. He also failed to qualify at Houston, where he was the ninth alternate at 7.10/195.05 for the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals. Carter qualified for his first-ever NHRA event at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. He used a Richard Maskin-built engine to qualify #13 with a 7.08/194.93. In round one, his 7.13/194.76 lost to Tom Martino's 7.10/195. Mark ran really well at Richmond in the first week of May for the NHRA Pennzoil Nationals, where his 7.03/196.33 qualified #8.Another 7.03 at 196.16 beat Mark Pawuk's 7.05/194 in the opening round. In the second round, his 7.06/196.72 lost to Warren Johnson's 6.99/196. Carter qualified on the "bump" at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals with a 7.14/194.34. He faced low qualifier and eventual winner Chuck Harris in the first round, and his 7.25/192.92 fell to Harris' 7.13/194. AKA Flying Fatman. |

Notes: Joe was the first alternate at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He failed to qualify at Gainesville as well, where his 7.70/182.70 was the eighth alternate. He made the show at Atlanta for the Southern Nationals, where he qualified #14 with a 7.67/179.92, but he lost to Joe Lepone in the first round. Unfortunately, he failed to make the show at the next few races. A best of 7.82/178.14 was only good for the eighth alternate at the Cajun Nationals. At the Springnationals, his 7.76/179.31 was eight alternate again. The Super Stock Nationals was only an eight-car show, and he was the second alternate there. A 7.86/177.23 was the sixth alternate at the Grandnationals. At Englishtown for the Summernationals, he ran 7.63/180.36 for the seventh alternate. The bump was a 7.59, but these shows were tough to qualify at. He went to Denver for the Mile High Nationals and ran 8.04/170.03 to qualify #11. Joe must have been excited because, in the first round, he faced Butch Leal and fouled. He qualified at the next event as well, the Northstar Nationals in August, where he ran 7.72/179.28 for the #11 spot. He lost to Warren Johnson in the first round. At Indy for the US Nationals, he failed to qualify. After that, it was off to Maple Grove for the Keystone Nationals. He ran a strong 7.58/181.81 to qualify on the "bump" spot in the sixteen-car field. A first-round 7.63/180.32 lost to Leal's 7.54/183. He was the second alternate at the Chief Nationals with a best of 7.65/180.90. At the Fallnationals, a 7.76/178.28 was the sixth alternate. Wrecked this car in Minnesota. Photo from Indy 87. |

Notes: After having Dick Landy building his engines in '84, starting with the season opener at Pomona, Roy was now running engines built by Jon Kaase. Hill ran 7.692/182.11 to qualify ninth at the NHRA Winternats, but he fouled away a 7.73/180.36 against Glidden in the first round. At the Gatornationals, 48 cars attempted to qualify for the sixteen-car show. The bump spot was a 7.76, and Roy's best of 7.80/178.07 failed to make the field(third alternate). The third NHRA event of the season was the Southern Nationals in Atlanta. Hill ran 7.82/176.60 to qualify #11, but a first-round 7.86/177.23 lost to Bruce Allen's 7.71/179. At Baton Rouge for the fourth NHRA National event, the Cajun Nationals, Roy was the third alternate with a 7.77/178.64. A 7.79/178.64 was the first alternate at Columbus for the Springnationals with a 7.79/176.64. He qualified eleventh at 7.71 at the NHRA Summernats. He lost in the first round, to Allen. He grabbed a win at the Pro Stock Open at Maryland International. At the Mile High Nationals in Denver, Hill's 8.19/169.17 qualified #14, but he lost early. Hill lost three engines due to a broken shifter pin trying to qualify for the US Nats, but his 7.79/178.63 best wasn't enough to make the field. He also qualified for the NHRA World finals with a 7.75/179.78, which was fourteenth, but he lost in the first round. In November, he debuted his '86 car with a win at the Snowbird Nats, running 7.91, 7.88, 7.77, and a final round 7.80. The Pomona Winters times were Roy's best of the year. |

Notes: Don qualified #2 behind his boss, Warren Johnson, at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. WJ got the pole with a 7.16/194 while Don's 7.17/193.63 followed. Unfortunately, he lost to WJ's son Kurt Johnson in his Pro Stock debut who got a slight holeshot and ran 7.23/191 to beat Beverley's quicker 7.21/192.67. WJ and Beverley qualified one-two at the next NHRA race as well, the Arizona Motorcraft Nationals. Once again Warren qualified #1 at 7.21/192 while Don's 7.23/191.53 held for second. He improved to 7.18/192.51 to beat Frank Iaconio's 7.27/190 in the first round. In the second round, another holeshot, this time by Larry Morgan stopped his advance. Larry won with a 7.23/189 over Don's 7.21/192.10. |

Notes: Reid attempted to qualify at Pomona for the Winternationals, but his best of 7.42/186.72 was good for the second alternate. He was the fourth alternate at the NHRA Arizona Nationals with a 7.42/185.33. At Houston for the Supernationals, a best of 7.36/186.37 was the tenth alternate for the show. Atlanta held an eight-car show in March and Reid's 7.45/185.16 qualified #5. In the first round, his 7.45/185 beat Buddy Ingersoll's close 7.46/184. In the semifinals, his 7.46/185.37 lost to eventual winner Warren Johnson's 7.39/187. Shortly after that, Whisnant was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. It took a 7.39 to qualify and his 7.43/185.60 best left him as the tenth alternate. Early in April, he was at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational. A strong 7.32/186.68 qualified #8, but in the first round, both he and Johnson ran 7.32 (Whisnant at 186.76), but WJ reached the finish line first. He qualified for the Southern Nationals in Atlanta, running a 7.316/187.03 for the #11 spot. An opening round 7.49/183.44 lost to Kenny Delco's 7.39/186. The Atlanta times were Reid’s best for 1990 on the NHRA national event trail. Interestingly, Reid's best ET was exactly his best from the previous season - a 7.316 run at Ennis. |

Notes: Allen was the sixth alternate at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.209/192.51 best. The team also failed to qualify for the NHRA Arizona Nationals, where Bruce was the ninth alternate at 7.240/191.93. Houston didn't go much better as his 7.170/193.92 best was the eleventh alternate. These shows were tough to make as many good cars were running at the time. It had to be hard for a multi-race winning team such as this that had so much success in the class to see their car among the non-qualifiers. Things went better at Gainesville. Forty cars showed up and attempted to qualify for the sixteen-car field. Allen qualified on the "bump" with a 7.104/195.10. In the opening round, he ran a 7.103 at 194.67 but fell to low qualifier Warren Johnson's 6.95/198. It was then off to Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational, where Bruce was the first alternate at 7.13/194.51. This was followed by a trip to Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, where he was the third alternate at 7.170/193.38. Memphis was the next stop on the NHRA calendar for the Mid-South Nationals. Allen's 7.181/193.63 best was the ninth alternate there. While the team ran better at Englishtown for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals, their 7.140/193.59 best was still the third alternate for the show. Richmond found more of the same. Allen was the fourth alternate for the NHRA Virginia Nationals with a 7.196/192.59. He qualified #14 at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals with a 7.234/190.72. In round one, Bruce's 7.326/189.59 lost to eventual winner Steve Schmidt's 7.18/192. He was left outside looking in at Topeka for the NHRA Western Nationals, where his 7.137/192.96 was the first alternate. He also failed to qualify at Denver for the NHRA Mile-High Nationals, where his 7.620/180.90 was the fourth alternate. The headaches continued at Sonoma, where Bruce's 7.182/194.04 was the fifth alternate for the NHRA Autolite Nationals. Seattle saw his 7.140/192.88 claim the second alternate slot for the NHRA Northwest Nationals, and Brainerd was no different as he was the third alternate at 7.223/191.40 for the NHRA Northstar Nationals. Everyone was at Indy for the NHRA U.S. Nationals, and Allen ran well, just not well enough, as he was the third alternate at 7.157/193.09. The only other race he qualified for this season was the NHRA Pioneer Keystone Nationals at Maple Grove. His 7.073/194.63 got him the #15 spot in the field. Unfortunately, he did not win a single round of competition this season as Jim Yates' 7.05/194 in the first round beat his 7.144/192.59. Bruce was the first alternate back at Topeka for the NHRA Craftsman Nationals with a 7.168/191.40, and he was the sixth alternate for the NHRA Chief Nationals at 7.112/193.92. He ended his season as the third alternate for the NHRA World Finals with a 7.125/194.21. (Comp number changed to 50 to align with sponsor name. Formerly 3216.) |

Notes: Jim started the year in a Volare at Pomona, but came out with this trick Charger (at Gainesville?) He made the show at the NHRA Southern Nationals, but in the first round, Joe Lepone's 8.05/170 beat his quicker 7.96/172.74. He did set Top Speed there at 177.16. The little Dodge had a great top-end charge all year. He scored a win in May at Baylands Raceway for the second NHRA Division 6 race. A final round 7.86 (Low ET) at 176.12 beat Bryant's Camaro for the victory. At the NHRA Cajun Nationals, a 7.97 qualified #6 in the tough eight-car field. He lost to Frank Iaconio in the first round. He surprised a lot of people at National Trail on June 13 for the NHRA Springnationals by qualifying #5 with a 7.91/172.08. He beat Pat Musi in the first round, before losing to Lee Shepherd in the second round. Jim was the first alternate at the eight-car Golden Gate Nationals at Baylands, running 7.855/177.16 for his best NHRA numbers of the year. |
