Notes: Pawuk did not start the season the way he would have liked. At Pomona, for the NHRA Winternationals, he was the fourth alternate with a 7.00/198.19 best. He did better at the NHRA Arizona Nationals, where a 7.01/196.89 qualified #8. In the opening round of eliminations, both he and his opponent, Barry Grant, got out of shape. Mark's 7.55/162.71 tripped the win light ahead of Barry's 8.01/127. Unfortunately, Pawuk had the same problem in round two, where his 7.81/137.17 lost to the eventual winner Warren Johnson's 7.14/195. Pawuk continued to have problems getting down the track at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. Despite running a fine 6.91/198.80 to qualify #4, his tire-shaking shut off, 9.09/103.48 lost out to Mike Edwards' 6.93/198 in the opening round. The following week, he was in Houston for the NHRA Pennzoil Nationals. He qualified #11 at 6.91/197.97. Darrell Alderman broke against him in the first round, and his 11.01/87.17 advanced. In the second round, his 7.01/195.62 lost to Mike Thomas's 6.94/197. In the first week of April, he was at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational. A 6.97/196.72 qualified #12, and he repeated that number (at 198.10) in the first round to beat Pete Willams. In the next round, his 7.00/196.67 fell to Kurt Johnson's 6.98/197. Mark ran 6.946/197.58 at NHRA Baytown 2 10/98 and 6.944/198.85 at NHRA Pomona CA 11/14/98. |

Notes: Morgan qualified #8 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.22/192.30. In the opening round of eliminations, his 7.26/190.75 lost to Bruce Allen's 7.25/190. He did much better at the NHRA Arizona Nationals. There a 7.25/190.27 qualified #7. In the first round, he improved to 7.23/190.15 to beat Jim Yates. Another 7.23 at 189.95 defeated Don Beverley's quicker 7.21/192 in round two, and Larry's 7.22/189.95 in the semi-final advanced when Kurt Johnson could not show after he had crashed while winning his second round race. He faced Mark Pawuk in the final, and Mark's 7.20/191 beat his 7.26/189.15 runner-up effort. The Pro Stock cars were flying at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, and Morgan ran a 7.14/192.71 in qualifying for the #12 spot in the field. He cut a great light in the first round, and his 7.20/190.19 held on to win over David Rampy's better 7.16/191. He pulled another holeshot win in round two, where his 7.20/190.92 beat Rusty Glidden's 7.18/191. In the semi-final, he got out on Rickie Smith, and Larry's 7.19/191.04 beat "Trickie Rickie's" 7.18/190. He faced his good friend, Bob Glidden, in the final, and somehow Morgan picked up to his best time of the weekend, a 7.14/192.63, but it wasn't enough as Glidden won with a 7.13/193. Lost quickest side-by-sider in history to Bob Glidden at Houston Slick 50 race, 7.134 to 7.140. Did Larry run a 7.096 in 1993? (Rick Howard photo from 1993 Oldsmobile SpringNats, Columbus, where Morgan was the first alternate (DNQ) with a best of 7.30/190.59.) |

Notes: Photo from the 1993 NHRA Springnationals, National Trail Raceway. Did Rusty race the long T-Bird? Ran 7.255/189.93 Ennis 93? | Rusty started the '93 season by qualifying #10 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.23/191.85. In the first round, he faced his dad, and his Probe broke, giving Bob a single into round two. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, a 7.29/189.47 qualified #14. An off pace 7.33/186.76 lost to Kurt Johnson's 7.22/192 in the first round. Houston hosted the third NHRA event of the year, the Slick 50 Supernationals. Once again, Rusty qualified, running 7.15/192.51 for the #13 spot. In the first round, he beat Mark Pawuk's 7.18/192 with a 7.16/191.97. In round two, Larry Morgan's 7.20/190 beat his late 7.18/191.61. Rusty was probably still happy as he watched his father Bob win his 83rd NHRA National event victory. The next event was the Gatornationals, and while Bob failed to qualify, Rusty ran 7.15/193.59 to qualify #9. A first-round 7.25/191.32 lost to Vince Khoury's 7.22/191. The non-points race, the Winston Invitational, was NHRA's next stop. Rusty stayed strong, qualifying #12 with a 7.18/192.43. He had problems in the first round, and slowed to a 7.68/140.31 that lost to Kurt Johnson's 7.14/194. After that, it was off to Atlanta for the Southern Nationals, where he ran 7.22/192.18 to qualify #14. Once again, he lost to Kurt Johnson in the first round, where his 7.31/190.71 fell to Kurt's 7.22/187. The NHRA Mid-South Nationals was next, and for the first time this season, Rusty failed to qualify. His best of 7.30 was good for the sixth alternate spot. He had more bad luck at the next few events; at the Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown, his 7.21/193.34 best was the third alternate, and at the NHRA Springnationals, he was the second alternate with a 7.31/190.75 best. He was the fourth alternate at the Ninth event of the season, the NHRA Western Nationals, where his best was a 7.35/188.79. His dad won the next race, the Mile-High Nationals in Denver, but it did little to take away from his 7.72/178.18 (#4 alternate) non-qualifying effort. Rusty got back into the groove by qualifying #11 with a 7.24/190.75 at the California Nationals at Sonoma. He got around his pop in the first round, and beat Bruce Allen in round two before losing to Frank Iaconio in the semifinals. Then, one week later (August 8), he failed to qualify at the Northwest Nationals. His 7.28/189.31 best was the sixth alternate. He was the fourth alternate with a 7.35/188.40 best at Brainerd's Champion Auto Stores Nationals. He had attempted to qualify running the wedge motor they had been working on. After two runs with a best of 7.37, they pulled the wedge, installed the Boss 429 Hemi motor, and ran the 7.35. Rusty was the fourth alternate again at the US Nationals with a 7.28/190.23 best. After this, the Probe was parked, and Rusty ran the T-Bird. |

Notes: Rick Howard (qualifying) photo of the 1996 US Nats, Indy. Seventh member of the Holley Six Second Club (6.999 at Englishtown on May 18/1996) qualified 6th at 7.07/195.05 for Indy. Defeated Barry Grant, Larry Morgan, and Jerry Eckman to reach only his second final since his win at Sonoma in '93. Lost to Kurt Johnson for the title. Jim Yates team car. | Rickie was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals where he was the seventh alternate, running a best of 7.15/193.21. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, he was the fifth alternate at 7.11/193.67. Things took a huge turn for the better at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. Rickie's 7.01/196.85 qualified #7 and an opening round 7.04/196.20 beat Bob Glidden's 7.08/195. Another 7.04 at 196.59 stopped Ray Franks' 7.10/195 in round two, but his run came to an end in the semifinals where his 7.03/195.82 lost to eventual winner Jim Yates' 7.03/195. Even though the numbers were close, the race wasn't as Smith was unusually late off the line. |

Notes: Erica started slowly in 2005, sometimes qualifying but not getting past the first-round. She got to round two at Maple Grove and then turned things around at Joliet, where she made it to the final round. She made it to round three at Ennis and Las Vegas, showing hints of the success of the next few years. |

Notes: Butch opened some eyes at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals when he qualified #1 with a 7.684 (Low ET) at 177.86. He beat Ken Dondero in the first round with a 7.71/174.75, but he lost to Frank Iaconio in the second round where his tire-shaking, shut off 9.15/104.52 fell to Frank's 7.92/168. At the NHRA Gatornationals, a 7.69/180.36 qualified #6. He beat John Brumley with a 7.75/178.92 and a 7.84/177.86 advanced past Roy Hill's broken Capri in round two. He had a close race in the semifinals with the meet's eventual winner Warren Johnson. Leal's 7.75/175.08 lost to WJ's 7.74/172. The next NHRA race was at Atlanta for the Southern Nationals. There, a 7.76/178.57 qualified #4. Butch beat Jerry Eckman in the first round before losing to Dondero in round two. He qualified #4 again at the NHRA Cajun Nationals at Baton Rouge with a 7.70/179.28. This time he made it all the way to the final. His 7.79/179 advanced when Don Campanello fouled in the opening round. Leal's 7.81/177 beat "Dyno Don" Nicholson's ailing Olds in round two. A 7.86/178 stopped Iaconio in the semifinal. He went against the Texas Camaro of Lee Shepherd in the final, and he gambled on the 'tree and lost, fouling away a 7.81/177.86 while Lee got the victory with a 7.75/181. The NHRA Springnationals was not very good for the Nationwise team; Leal lost in the first round. Another early loss came at the NHRA Grandnationals. Leal qualified well with a 7.75/177.86 (#6), but he failed even to reach the semifinals. That continued at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, a good 7.73 qualified #7, but he lost to Sam Carroll in the first round. After qualifying #5 with an 8.16/168.53 at the NHRA Mie High Nationals, he beat Roy Hill in round one with an 8.20/166.97. But in round two, he lost to the eventual winner, Warren Johnson. Butch ran a decent 8.17/165.13, but WJ's 8.09/170 had him covered. Brainerd saw more of the same; he qualified #6 but lost to Shepherd in round two. At Indianapolis for the NHRA US Nationals, he ran an excellent 7.69/179.64 to qualify #3, but a 7.84/175.09 in the first round, lost to Dondero's 7.79/181. Things changed for the team at the season-ending NHRA World Finals at Pomona. More people would have noticed Leal if it weren't for Bob Glidden's dominating performance. He qualified #2 with a 7.69/179.64 and shut off to an 8.01/149.25 win in round one when Ronnie Manchester fouled. A 7.76/178.92 in round two beat Reid Whisnant's Mopar, while in the semifinals, a 7.74/180.00 advanced when Don Coonce fouled against him. This put Leal in the final against Glidden. But it was Glidden's day, and Butch's 7.81/162.45 finished runner-up to Bob's 7.61/181. Bob Riffle was the co-crew chief, and Dale Eicke did cylinder head and intake manifold development. |

Notes: At Pomona for the season-opening NHRA Winternationals, Bruce qualified #9 with a 7.23/191.89. A first-round 7.25/190.96 beat Larry Morgan's 7.26/190. In round two, a 7.24/191.44 lost to Warren Johnson's 7.15/193. He qualified #9 again at the next NHRA race, the Arizona Nationals, where a 7.26/190.23 got the spot. A first-round 7.25/190.07 beat Paul Rebeschi's 7.31/190. In round two, a 7.24/190.67 beat a late Warren Johnson at 7.22/192. In the semifinals, he fell to Mark Pawuk's 7.23/191 with a 7.25/191.12. At the Slick 50 Supernationals at Houston, Bruce qualified #6 with a 7.13/193.54. A first-round 7.19/191.93 lost to Rebeschi's 7.20/190. The next stop on the NHRA trail was the Gatornationals. There Allen ran 7.15/193.42 to qualify #12 (tough show). The "Super Shops" Lumina was the only Chevy that qualified for the field. He lost to Pawuk in the first round. After that, it was off to the NHRA Winston Invitational. Bruce used a 7.14/193.00 to qualify #6, but a first-round 7.18/193.96 lost to Jim Yates' 7.19/193. He qualified #8 with a 7.20/192.47 at Atlanta for the Southern Nationals. In the first round, both he and Bob Glidden ran 7.24's, but Bob got the win. The sixth spot on the NHRA tour was at Memphis for the Mid-South Nationals. Once again, only one Chevy qualified, and it was Allen's. A 7.23/190.83 qualified #9. In the first round, a 7.26/190.23 beat Rebeschi's 7.31/189. A consistent 7.26/189.63 lost to eventual winner Scott Geoffrion's 7.16/192. At Englishtown for the Mopar Parts Nationals, the Reher-Morrison team had to be disappointed that they did not earn enough points qualifying throughout the year to take part in the Budweiser Pro Stock Challenge. For the actual race, Allen qualified #13 with a 7.18/192.47. In the first round, he got around Vince Khoury's 7.42/190 with a 7.37/188.32 as both had sub-par runs. In round two, a 7.30/190.55 beat Frank Iaconio, but in the semifinals, his 7.23/191.48 lost to Warren Johnson's 7.19/194. In Mid-June, the team was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. Bruce ran an excellent 7.24/190.63 to qualify the lone Chevy #4 in the field. But he was upset in the opening round, Lewis Worden took a gamble on the tree, and it paid off with his 7.32/188 holding off Allen's quicker,7.27/189.83. Shortly after that, they stopped at Topeka, Kansas, for the NHRA Western Nationals. Two Chevys qualified, and Bruce was quicker, running 7.29/189.35 for the #11 spot. Both lost in the first round, with Allen losing to Morgan. Oldsmobile's support of the Pro Stock class was deep in these years, and more and more drivers were switching to Olds. As a result, when the NHRA tour got to Denver for the Mile High Nationals, over half of the field was made up of Cutlass'.Bruce qualified #11 with a 7.68/176.85. Only one other Chevy made the show. Both were gone after the opening round. Allen's 7.76/177.61 fell to Steve Schmidt's 7.67/180. Allen picked it up at Sonoma for the NHRA California Nationals. The lone Chevy qualifier ran 7.20/191.44 to qualify #3. He took out Mark Osborne's 7.34/190 in the opening round with a 7.28/190.55. In the second round, he lost to Rusty Glidden. Bruce's best times were at NHRA Houston Spring at 7.130/193.54. |

Notes: Darrell went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where he ran a best of 6.99/195.99 in qualifying. Unfortunately, that left him as the first alternate for the show. He was the eleventh alternate at the NHRA Arizona Nationals with a 7.12/196.07 best. He made the field at the NHRA Gatornationals, where Alderman's 6.95/199.51 qualified #14. But he fouled away a 6.94/199.24 in the first round against Jim Yates. Darrell had to gamble on the 'tree as Yates won with a 6.87/199. Shortly after that, he was in Houston for the NHRA Supernationals. A 6.900/198.41 was the quickest non-GM car and #6 overall. He broke against Mark Pawuk in the opening round. Alderman was at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational in the first week of April. Not a single non-GM car qualified as Darrell's 7.02/196.29 was the ninth alternate. He also failed to qualify at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. There, he was the twelfth alternate at 7.06/196.80. The team was at Richmond for the NHRA Pennzoil Nationals at the end of April. Once again, he failed to qualify, but he was close (first alternate) at 6.97/197.84. Both the Mopar teams qualified in the top half of the field at Texas for the NHRA Lone Star Nationals. They were the only non-GM cars in the field. Darrell's 7.03/196.97 qualified #7, and he improved to 7.01/196.24 in the first round to beat Tom Martino's out of shape 8.13/124. In the second round, his 7.04/191.40 fell to eventual winner Mike Edwards' 7.03/194. Rick Howard photo from 1998 NHRA Pontiac excitement Nats, Columbus, where he was a DNQ with a best of 7.11 on a 7.09 bump. His best speed of the year was the 199.51 at NHRA Gainesville. |

Notes: Bubba Corzine had a good year in '83. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, he qualified #9 with a 7.90/173.74. Unfortunately, he faced low qualifier, Bob Glidden, in round one, and his 8.01/172.08 lost to Bob's 7.86/174. At the Gatornationals, a 7.804/177.51 qualified #12, and in the opening round, he fouled away a 7.83 against Frank Iaconio who advanced with a 7.69. He stopped off at Green Valley Raceway on April 10 for a four-car show. Corzine set Low ET and Top Speed in qualifying #1 with a 7.72/178.92. In the opening round, his 7.87/175.43 beat Chuck Nuyten's 8.16/168, and in the final, his 7.86/176.12 picked up the victory over Eddie Conrad's 8.12/168. The Southern Nationals at Atlanta featured only an eight-car field. Bubba was able to run 7.85/175.78 to qualify #6, but he fouled away a 7.92 in the opening round against the eventual winner Lee Shepherd, who advanced with a 7.85/172. He also lost to Shepherd in the first round at the NHRA Cajun Nationals, where he fouled again. He qualified #7 in the eight-car field with a 7.85/175.09. Shepherd continued to have Corzine's number at the next NHRA event, the Springnationals. There Bubba's 7.92/175.09 qualified #9, and that forced him to run Shepherd, who qualified #1 in the first round. Corzine pushed the tree a little too hard and fouled away a 7.94, while Lee moved on with a 7.86. He then made a stop at St.Louis for the AHRA Gateway Nationals. He qualified #3 in the sixteen car field with a 7.93/176.13, and he lasted until round two where the car broke. He did not attend the Grandnationals, but he was at Englishtown for the Summernationals. There a 7.97/172.74 qualified #12. In the first round, his 7.94/173.41 fell to Don Coonce's 7.87/174. A couple of weeks later, he was at Denver for the Mile High Nationals. It was another eight-car show, and his 8.39/164.23 qualified #7 in the thin air. An opening round 8.38/162.16 lost to Warren Johnson's 8.22/170. The next stop on the NHRA tour was the Northstar Nationals at Brainerd. Once again, Corzine qualified well, running an 8.01/171.42 for the #13 spot. He lost to Coonce in the opening round. Bubba's Gatornationals times were the best NHRA national event times of the year. | Sharp Chaparral outfit at the '82 Finals. In '83 they came back with Tharp, Schultz, and a Swindahl. - Joe Moore |

Notes: Joe drove the Beretta and the Giddings & Wells Camaro in 1987. Definitely drove the Camaro at Ennis Spring, but assuming he ran the Beretta everywhere else. Once this is verified, check DragStats to assign best times to the right car. 236 IHRA. The Drag Racing List, Winter 87/88, Volume 2, Number 9 had 188.28, but the best times for the year on the NHRA trail were 7.403/187.42. Ran 7.682/182.22 at NHRA Grandnational Molson 1987. |
