Notes: Shay was in Kansas City on July 7 for the AHRA Drag Nationals. Her 9.32/145.63 qualified #5. She faced low qualifier Bill Jenkins in the first round, and his 9.05 beat her 9.48. Also ran 144.2 at Pearl MS. Also ran 9.29 at St. Louis in 1974. We need to validate the year of the photo. We do not show Shay on any NHRA national event qualifying lists (including DNQ) in 1974. |

Notes: Ewing was at Warner Robins for the NHRA Southeast National Open at the end of October. It was supposed to be an eight-car show, but the field was two cars short. He qualified #4 at 9.42/145.86. In the first round, he improved by over two tenths to 9.20/149.75, but it wasn't enough to beat low qualifier Lamar Walden's 9.02/151. Shortly after that, he was at Gainesville for the Turkey Trot National Open. He was down on power and was lucky that only eight cars had shown. His 10.01 qualified last, and an off-pace 10.31/117.49 lost to Walden's 9.04/148. |

Notes: Bill built his first pro ride himself from an Arrow Dynamics chassis over the Winter of '77, '78. 1978 Pro Stock Monza featured trick push, button shifting. Ran brackets in 1978, hitting high nines. Car ran Pro Stock at a handful of AHRA events in '79. AHRA always had 8 car fields in Pro Stock and Bill was the 9th quickest at the three national events that he entered that year. But P.S., nobody broke. - Barry Kuhlmann |

Notes: Hagen was at Minnesota on July 20 where his first-round 9.26/146.57 lost to Wayne Gapp's 9.12/148. The following week (July 27), he ran well at Bison Dragways for the third NHRA Division 5 race. He ran an easy solo of 13.28 when Dave Piekarski failed to show and a semifinal 9.27/147.29 beat Jack Schorr's 9.36/144. He faced Warren Johnson in the final and Hagen fouled, handing the win to Johnson. |

Notes: Gary was in Seattle in May for the NHRA Division Six Opener. He qualified #4 with a 9.26/148.43, but in the first round, of eliminations, he shut down to 11.24 in a loss to Pete Kost's 9.23. The only NHRA national event was the Seattle Fallnationals this year. He qualified #12 at 9.312/144.23. Won round one when Warren Johnson did not show (9.52/142) but lost round two to Bob Glidden, 8.95 to a 10-second shut-off for Coe. Formerly listed 8.87/154.37 for this year, but I believe that was a misrepresentation of the 8.86/153 from Seattle 1976 in the Pinker & Aldridge car. |

Notes: The best NHRA times were 9.290/147.29 in a first-round loss to Reid Whisnant's 9.21 at the 1973 Gatornationals. Ronnie was at Rockingham early in May for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. His 9.23 qualified #7 in the sixteen-car field, and in the opening round, he got a solo run when Harold Clark blew an engine on his burnout. Lyles ran 9.44/145.86 to advance. A second-round 9.28/146.57 beat Roy Hill's 9.37/141, but in the semifinal, he fouled on a 9.22 run against eventual winner Don Carlton, who ran 8.99. Shortly after that, Lyles was at Maple Grove for its annual Dutch Classic race. He qualified #4 in the eight-car field with a 9.40, and in round one, his 9.25/146.34 (Low ET and Top Speed) beat Bruce Larson. In the semifinal, his opponent, Bill Lawton, fouled. But shortly after leaving the line, a rod let go in the Duster, and he could not run in the final. He was back at Maple Grove for the USRT event. It was a sixteen-car field, and in the opening round, his 9.41/144.69 fell to Herb McCandless' 9.39/146. He then went to Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals but failed to qualify. Things went much better at Blaney for the third NHRA Division Two race. He first ran 9.45/145.16 to beat Jim Rodriquez. A second-round 9.47/144 took out William Paris, and a 9.41/144.23 stopped Oscar Roberts in the semifinal. He lined up against Melvin Yow in the final. Yow's transmission let go, so Lyles' 9.41/144.92 scored the victory. |

Notes: On May 6, Zul was at Englishtown for the NHRA Division One opener. He qualified #3 in the eight-car field with a 9.26/147.23. In the opening round of eliminations, his 9.33/146.57 defeated Jeg Coughlin's 9.49/141. In the semifinal, his 9.36/146.10 fell to Levi Holmes' identical 9.36/146. Shortly after that (May 13), he was at Maple Grove for the Dutch Classic. It was another eight-car field, and his 9.39 qualified #2 behind Carmen Rotonda's 9.36. But he failed to show for his first-round race against Bill Lawton. He was unable to qualify at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. Richie qualified #18 at the Summernationals at 9.359/144.43, and then the car was stolen during the race. He replaced the car with the Jenkins Camaro but did not race any other NHRA national events in 1973. |

Notes: Joniec won the Connecticut Dragway Opener in April. It was an eight-car show, and in the first round, his 9.35/147.29 beat Harvey Cohen's Pinto. He took a gamble on the lights in the semifinal and won as his 9.33/147.54 defeated Richie Zul's 9.49/112. Zul had run 9.02 in the first round. He faced Dennis Ferrara in the final. Dennis' Camaro was at least two-tenths off the Pinto's times, so he gambled in the final and fouled. Al's 9.22/148.27 got the victory. Shortly after that, he was at Cecil County for its Spring Pro Stock Championships. This was another eight-car field and in round one his 9.24/147 fell to Frank Iaconio's 9.07/151. H came back out for a consolation race where he ran 9.22/149 in losing to Frank Russo's 9.09/152. On May 11, Joniec was at Maple Grove for the Dutch Classic. It was an eight-car show, and he qualified #5. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Scott Shafiroff. Al's 9.47/140.62 was no match for Shafiroff's 9.03/149. Al was back at Maple Grove on June 22 for the NHRA Division One race. He qualified #6 in the eight-car field, and in the opening round of eliminations, his 9.42/143.54 lost to Richie Zul's 9.10/149. |
