Notes: We need to confirm who owned this car. We think Don ran this car at the 1972 Supernationals, where he ran 9.605/142.40, but lost in round one, to Barrie Poole, 9.39 to 9.61. He definitely ran it at the 1973 Pomona Winters. |

Notes: Bagshaw attempted to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but his 9.09 best failed to crack the 9.06 "bump." Things went better at the Bakersfield March Meet, where an 8.95 qualified #3. He reached the final against upstart Tom Chelbana and a 9.00/150.25 gave him the victory over Tom's fouling 9.12/138. He also won the second NHRA Division 7 race held at OCIR. He beat Chelbana in the first round, before running a great 8.87/155.17 (Top Speed) to beat Lee Hunter's 9.02/128 in the semifinals. He picked up to an 8.82 (Low ET) at 154 in the final for the victory over Kevin Rotty's 9.06/150. Bill also won the OCIR Funny Car 500 at the end of May. There he stopped Mark Yuill in the final. Times and info from National Dragster, 3/19/76. Ran 8.90/152.06 at Fremont Raceway WCS 3/76. |

Notes: This car was driven by top fuel driver Steve Carbone at the Division 4 WCS event at Albuquerque the weekend of August 11/12/1973. | Huff was runner-up to Butch Leal at the second OCIR All-Pro race. His final round 9.55/144.23 lost to Leal's 9.36/147. At Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals, he qualified #13 in the sixteen-car field with a 9.63/142.63. He lost to Dick Landy in the first round. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, his 9.80/142.85 qualified #18 in the 32 car show. He lost early in eliminations. Larry qualified #3 with a 9.58 at Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet. He worked his way to the final of the eight-car show, stopping a tough Bill Bagshaw in the semifinals. In the final, he ran Bob Lambeck and his 9.47 took the victory over Bob's 9.60. A week later (March 11), he was at Fremont for the AHRA Northern Nationals. He qualified #2 with a 9.37/145.86. Once again, he worked his way to the final, running a strong 9.26/147.28 in round two while beating Sonny Bryant's 9.38/144. In the semifinal, a 9.28 beat Larry Breaux's 9.35. In the final, he faced low qualifier Landy, who had set Low ET in round two with a 9.07. Huff tried hard in the final, but his 9.32/147.29 was no match for Dick's 9.12/150 and Larry had to settle for the runner-up spot. It was then back to OCIR for the final All-Pro race ran on March 24. Huff qualified #4 and in the opening round to beat Ken Van Cleave with a 9.36. A second round 9.28/146.34 beat Jim Baker, but he lost to Landy in the semifinals. He got another runner-up finish at the NHRA Division 4 Opener at LaPlace in April. There, his final round 9.88/142 lost to Bob Coleman's Low ET and Top Speed of the meet pass of 9.44/144. The Challenger was starting to get dated by 1973 standards, but he was still doing pretty well with it. On May 24 he was at Dragway 42 for the AHRA Grand American held there. He qualified #5, but failed to reach the finals. In June he was at Denver's Century 21 Dragway for the AHRA Springnationals. Once again, he failed to make the finals after qualifying #4 with a 10.01. He went to Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals the following week (June 10). A 9.53 got the "bump spot" in the sixteen-car field, but a 9.71 in the first round, lost to Bob Riffle's 9.51. |

Notes: Oscar purchased Reid Whisnant's 71/72 car. Reid drove it in a few races while his 73 Don Hardy Duster was being built. In June, Roberts was at Maple Grove for the third NHRA Division One race. The field was two cars short for the eight-car field, so he got to make a solo in the first round. In the semifinal, his 9.37/145.16 lost to Richie Zul's 9.34/145. At the NHRA Summernationals, Oscar drove a Vega to the #27 qualifying position and a first-round loss. We need to validate which car that was. He was running the "Yankee Jo" Duster at Maryland International for the 1st annual U.S. P/S Open race. He had qualified #12, but in round one, his 9.51 lost to Lee Edwards' 9.07. On July 29, he was at Miami-Hollywood for the fourth NHRA Division Two race. His opening round 9.47 beat Jim Rodriquez's 10.29. In round two, his 9.54/143.31 lost to eventual winner Whisnant's 9.19/148. Oscar was the first alternate at the Sanair Grandnationals, but we are unsure if that was the Duster or the Vega. We are listing the speed for the Vega for now. He got into the field and lost to Paul Blevins in round one, with a 9.654/146.92. Oscar had the Duster at Amarillo for the NHRA World Finals. He qualified #6 as an alternate in the Western Conference (?) and #10 overall. In the opening round, his 9.620/142.40 lost to Bob Riffle's 9.48/145.16. The following week (October 14), he was at Lakeland for the IHRA Nationals. Roberts qualified #12, and in the first round, he fouled away a 9.38/146 against Bob Riffle. Roberts ended his season at the Snowbird National Open on December 2. It was an eight-car show, and his 9.24 qualified #3. Unfortunately, he fouled against Kenny Hahn in the first round. He ran 9.442/145.39 at NHRA Englishtown, but that was in a Vega. |

Notes: Racing in Division One in "77-'78 was not exactly the best place to be when learning the ropes in Pro Stock. But that's just where Don Campanello found himself. The competition was really fierce between Larry Lombardo and the "Team Jenkins" car and Frank Iaconio. Those two won the bulk of the races. But maybe having such tuff competition also brings you along quicker as you have to compete or drop out. So Don worked hard to get competitive.'77 was not one of his best years in racing, but it was a learning experience. Don was at Englishtown on May 1 for the NHRA Division One Opener. He qualified #5 in the eight-car field, but then it rained, and the race was postponed until the following week(May 8). He qualified #12 at NHRA Englishtown at 8.890 (no speed). Lost round one to Frank Iaconio, 8.71/155 to 8.93/152.80. Entered but did not race at NHRA Indianapolis IN 9/77. |

Notes: Satmary's big stompin' Camaro was always a welcome sight to the eyes of Chevy Pro Stock fans. He won the OCIR WCS meet with 9.86 ET. | Only 1971 NHRA national event was the Springnationals, where Joe qualified #21 with a 10.124/135.52, and then lost to Don Grotheer in round one, 9.88/140.84 to 10.15/135.95. |

Notes: Joe was at Beeline in Jan for the AHRA Winternationals. He qualified #9 with a 9.19. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Bob Glidden. It wasn't much of a race as Bob's 8.88/153 beat Joe's 9.26/147.54. He then went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where his 9.24/149.00 qualified #15. In the first round, he fouled against Melvin Yow. Ran 9.24 at Pomona, 9.20 at Columbus, 9.18 at Englishtown, 9.13 at Indy, 9.057/151.79 at Ontario. |

Notes: Ran 9.130 at York Super Stock Nationals 74, 9.03 at Pomona, 9.06 at Englishtown, 9.31 at Indy, 9.12 at Ontario. | Paul had one of the three Vegas that qualified at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. His 9.13/150.50 qualified #11, but an off-pace 9.33/148.51 in the first round, lost to Bill Jenkins' 9.05/151. At the NHRA Gatornationals, he qualified #10, but his 9.01/151.51 lost to Jack Roush's 8.94/153 in round one. He qualified #11 with a 9.23 at the NHRA Springnationals, but he could not run eliminations, and alternate Jim Halloran took his place. Paul ran 9.06/149.50 to qualify #8 at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, but he slept in the first round, and his 9.23/147.78 lost to Kelly Chadwick's 9.29/146. He got his first-round win at the NHRA Grandnationals in Canada. There he qualified #7 with a 9.06, and his first-round 9.15/148.25 beat Lee Edwards. A very satisfying, holeshot 9.05 victory over Larry Lombardo's 9.05 in Jenkins' Vega came in the second round, but he fouled away a 9.07 in the semifinals against eventual winner Wayne Gapp's 8.84. Things did not go too well at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals. It was a 32 car field, and Paul only qualified #23 with a 9.30/147.78. That set up a first-round meeting with Jenkins, who qualified #7 with a 9.10. With a two-tens disadvantage, Blevins pushed the 'tree too hard and fouled against "Grumpy," who would have been hard to catch anyway as he ran 9.02. |

Notes: Hill was at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals in January. He qualified #8 with a 9.40/144.46. Hill beat alternate Kevin Rotty in the first round, with a 9.34/143.54, but in round two, his 9.36/143.77 lost to Melvin Yow's 9.34/146. He qualified #10 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 9.55/142.63. But he left due to the rain delay. At the NHRA Gatornationals on March 18, a 9.32/144.00 qualified #11. A first-round 9.36/145.36 lost to Ronnie Sox's 9.15/147. Later in March, he was at Warner Robins for an eight-car show. Roy qualified #2 behind Melvin Yow in Billy Stepp's Demon. Hill ran 9.45 in the first round to beat Max Smith's 'Cuda, and in the semifinals, he got a "bye run" and ran 12.24. The meet was then rained out and never completed. In May, he was at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. Roy qualified #11 with a 9.29. In the first round, he beat Don Nicholson's 9.35/141 with a 9.33/140.00. In round two, he ran 9.37/141.95 but lost to Ronnie Lyles' 9.28/146. On June 2, he was at Blaney Drag Strip for the third NHRA Division Two race. Unfortunately, he fouled against Oscar Roberts in the opening round. Hill qualified #5 at Columbus with a 9.52 for the NHRA Springnationals. But a first-round 9.77/140.84 lost to Yow's 9.51/148. Early in July, he went to Kil-Kare Dragway for its Pro Stock Showdown race. It was an eight-car field, and in the first round, his 9.39 defeated Jeg Coughlin's 9.65. In the semifinals, he faced the AMC Hornet of Wally Booth. Wally fouled away a 9.32 while Roy advanced with a 9.32 of his own. He faced Wayne Gapp in the final. The Pinto had the edge as Wayne was running 9.2's. Sure enough, Roy's 9.33 in the final finished runner-up to Gapp's 9.21. Shortly after that (July 15), Englishtown hosted the NHRA Summernationals. Roy qualified #13 with a 9.30. That wasn't bad, considering almost 50 cars were attempting to qualify for the 32-car field. He beat Lyles in the first round, but a 9.36/144.69 in the second round lost to Yow's 9.18/150. Roy qualified #12 at Bristol on September 16 for the IHRA All-American Nationals. The car broke in the opening round against Ronnie Sox. In October, he competed at the IHRA Nationals at Lakeland. It was a sixteen-car field, and a 9.34/137.61 in round one beat Hubert Platt. He fouled away a 9.43/143 against Gapp in round two. Near the end of the season (November 25), he was at Gainesville for the Turkey Trot National Open. He qualified #2 in the eight-car field with a 9.25/147.05 behind Reid Whisnant's 9.12/149. in the opening round, his 9.27/138 beat Max Smith. Not sure how they did their eliminations, as this was an NHRA run, but usually, the #1 and #2 qualifiers don't meet until the final. But here, the two met in the semifinal, and Roy lost to Reid's 9.04. Also ran 9.30 at Cecil County and 9.38/145.63 NHRA Indianapolis. |

Notes: Lyles won the third NHRA Division 2 race held at Blaney in June. He ran a 9.47/144 over William Paris in round one, and a semifinal 9.41/144.23 beat Oscar Roberts in the semifinal. His chances didn't look good going into the final as Melvin Yow had run a track record 9.25 in winning his semifinal race driving Billy Stepp's car. But in the final, Stepp broke a transmission and Ronald's 9.41/144.92 got the victory. He was at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals where he qualified #29 with a 9.45, but he lost to Roy Hill in the opening round. |

Notes: Joe qualified #14 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with an 8.78/155.70. He worked his way to the final by beating Randy Humphrey in the first round, with an 8.72/156.52. In round two, an 8.68/156.25 advanced when Lee Shepherd broke. His 8.642/157.06 advanced when Roy Hill broke just off the line in the semifinals. In the final, he slowed to an 8.71/157.34, which lost to Glidden's 8.49. At the NHRA Gatornationals, he qualified #5 at 8.650/158.17. He beat Billy Wash in the first round, but he fouled against Glidden in round two. At Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, Joe qualified #14 with an 8.75/156.24. Unfortunately, he lost to Larry Lombardo in the opening round. He then went to Seattle for the NHRA Fallnationals, where his 8.67/155.97 qualified #8. An 8.65/155.17 beat Jean Batteux's 8.78/152 in the first round, and in round two, his 8.66/154.63 beat Larry Johnson's 8.84/153. But in the semifinals, he lost to eventual winner Frank Iaconio. His 8.68/154.37 was far behind Frank's 8.48/157. The next stop was Ontario Motor Speedway for the NHRA World Finals. Joe's 8.84/154.10 qualified #14, and his 8.87/154.10 in the first round, lost to fellow big-block Camaro campaigner Sonny Bryant, who won with an 8.82/153. Satmary finished sixth in the NHRA season-long points chase. He was often the top Chevy representative. |

Notes: Lost the quickest side by side race in history to Bob Glidden at the NHRA Summernationals, 8.58 to 8.80. (Then, in a later round, Glidden and Richie Zul set yet another combined quickest mark, 8.53 to 8.66). | Dempsey won the NHRA Division 2 opener at DeSoto Memorial Speedway on April 16. He had set Low ET and Top Speed at 8.77/155.70 before beating Roy Hill's 8.85/153 in the final with an 8.80/154.63. A couple of weeks later, he was at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. A tough eight-car field saw such notables like Larry Lombardo and Kevin Rotty fail to qualify. Dempsey's 8.73/155.70 qualified #7. But his opening round 8.83/154.90 lost to Wally Booth's 8.78/155. At Columbus, for the NHRA Springnationals, his 8.78/154.10 qualified #11. He surprised Lee Shepherd in the first round, where his 8.86/153.06 beat Lee's quicker, but later 8.83/152. But in round two, he had the same thing happen: his quicker 8.87/153.06 lost to Don Nicholson's 8.89/153. Hardy qualified #9 at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals with an 8.74. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Bob Glidden. Dempsey knew he had to take a chance on the tree. He gambled and lost, fouling away an 8.78/154.63, while Glidden advanced with an 8.64. Best NHRA national event times were 8.690 at the Grandnationals and 155.70 at the Cajun Nationals. |
